I called ADT to upgrade my home alarm to include a more up to date monitoring system and panels. I have been a customer with ********************** since 2010 and I've also used them for my business since 2016. In summary they'd installed glass break sensors that get triggered simply by the dog's loud barking. I had asked my sales person if the dog was going to cause that but he assured me it'd be fine. I purchased 7 units costing more than $600.I called ADT several times to fix the problem before deciding to return the sensors. The last technician who came out, including the customer service agent, told me to call the ADT sales **** to ask for a return label to ship the unwanted items back for a full refund. I've now called more than 4 or 5 times to try to resolve this issue. Each time I've had to spend more than ***** minutes being passed on from one **** to another. The last person said she'd be sending a label out via email and that has not happed either so I'm going to have to call again and waste more of my time being passed on.Business Response

I first complained about ADT to the BBB last year.In November of 2022, my temporary door blew open. No motion alert from ADT, no phone call, nothing. **** immediately sent me "front door open" notification and the dispatch offered to call the police. Four police officers, including a police K9, walked through my house. Once again, no motion alert from ADT, no phone call. Needless to say, I had no intention of keeping the service that 5x as much as Ring and obviously doesn't work. (This incident doesn't include the handful of times that my contractor locked himself out, popped the window screen to walk through the living room to the front door to unlock it)I literally spent all of 2023 trying to cancel the service. The code needed to cancel was my friend's name and the ADT agent's purposefully were trying to make me guess a number, so I would answer incorrectly , and not be able to cancel a service that doesn't work.The first time I contacted the BBB, ADT LIED and responded that I never contacted them to cancel. That is a bad lie, considering even their own employees pulled up my call log and my phone has a call log, as well as screenshots of me chatting with ADT.I should not be charged a $300 cancellation fee when I was corned into paying $60 a month for over a year. ADT should deduct the $300 from the $820 they deducted while cornering me to stick with a security system that is basically indoor decoration.Business Response

We reviewed the account and on 1/12/2023, ****************** called in and spoke with a customer service agent and provided the incorrect password that was listed on her account. She had stated she did not remember it and that she had home renovations occur and on 12/29/2023 is the date the incident occurred where ADT did not respond to the door being blown open. The agent offered to send the correct password in the mail and even offered a technician to come out and resolve it. ****************** disconnected the call.
On 11/28/2023, ****************** communicated with our online chat team to cancel and again she provided the incorrect password to the chat agent and she ended the chat before the agent could further assist. ****************** also advised us she had previously communicated with the BBB and the ADT representative responded that ****************** never called to cancel her service.We do not have any record or calls from a corporate executive team member handling a prior BBB case.

I had ADT for several years. I cancelled account #********* on January 2, 2024. I was told that I would be responsible for the remaining duration of the contract of $300.64. I never agreed or signed a new contract. When I asked them for proof of the extension and where I signed a new contract agreeing to pay termination costs, they sent me a copy of a contract that expired in 2019. Now they keep sending me notification that I owe them money and I don't owe them anything, because I never agreed to termination terms. I would like this resolved before going to collections and hurting my credit.Customer Answer

I inquired about a service at a home I leased for a year, I called ADT at the recommendation of the landlord. When I called I was quoted about $60/ month for all ********************************* When tech came out he quoted $120 / month. I hesitantly accepted, I explained my lease would only be for a year & was told equipment was just a rental & could call to cancel at any time. A month later when I received statement I saw there was a balance charge for over $3000. I immediately called & was told that my service was under a 5 year contract. Of course I was shocked & asked for a cancellation ASAP! To which I was told the account would be escalated & I would get a call from a manager. I never did. On that same call I also let them know the 1 camera they installed was not working anymore (only worked for a week). Of course here we are a year later Im moving & I call them just to find out theres a balance of over $2000 & the services were canceled in October.. with no notice. I try to work a resolution out & they simply state theres nothing to do. Now Im stuck with a balance on equipment we no longer have.Business Response

ADT attempted to speak to the customer regarding the concerns brought to our attention, however after we identified ourselves, the call was abruptly ended.We then emailed the customer and provided copies of the ******** contract,along with the 60-month loan contract for the installed equipment. We also advised the customer that if the landlord or new tenant signs a contract in their name, ADT would be able to waive the early contract termination fees. My bill has been adjusted for additional charges without my consent. I agreed to pay one monthly ******************* and they are charging me a different price. I spent hours on the phone trying to find someone who could help me and was not able to have the matter resolved. They actually sent me 2 separate bills as well. I even have the contract of the amount I agreed to pay. One manager told me that prices could change regardless of what contract I signed. I would like to speak with someone who will actually help me if they will please call me. I was required to add an email but please only contact me by phone if you are willing to resolve this issue. I never signed a contract for more than $64.19 per month and was told that was the total amount my monthly bill would be.Business Response

ADT received response from the local office stating that the representative had made sure the customer understood all the terms and conditions about the agreement prior to her signing all the documents. ADT followed up with the customer and relayed to the customer the information received from the local office, but the customer disagreed. ********************** reviewed the contract and Retail Install Contract with the customer and went over monthly fees with the customer. In order to de-escalate the customers issue, ADT offered to reduce the customers monthly rate from $59.99 to $51.99, and she accepted the offer. ADT also added a total of 2 months of monitoring credit to the account, out of courtesy. ADT sent email confirmation to the customer confirming the rate reduction. ********************** also reviewed the sales call on 1/8/2024,and the agent advised the customer that the total monthly would be $70.00.Initial Complaint

I tried to cancel my subscription only to be told that I am locked into a contract that was sold to me as something that could be easily cancelled. Instead I have been told I will be charged 75% of the total cost left in the contract. On top of that, the equipment that I have paid for will stop working. He is requesting to cancel the account before the contract ends. As a goodwill, ADT is offering to waive the early cancellation fees. Second complaint to this joke of a business. Gave adt thousands of dollars for cameras that never load or work. They closed my account because I refuse to pay for items that do not work. I expected upgraded cameras due to the fact I've been having the same issues with these cheap basic cameras 24/7. Adt ignores replies, customer service reps are no help. Workers that come here claim it's my wifi, then other workers claim it's the cheap cameras their own company gave us. I will take this to court, the media and I will not stop til I get a professional resolution.Business Response

We reviewed the account and confirmed that Mrs. ****** had the system reinstated on 5/16/2020.
On 5/28/2022 Mrs. ****** called in said that 2 cameras were offline.
The customer service agent assisted Mrs. ****** and did some troubleshooting to reboot the cameras.
The reboot for the cameras did not work. The customer service agent scheduled a virtual service appointment for 5/28/2022.
The virtual appointment was cancelled, and a service appointment was schedule for 5/31/2022.
On 5/31/2022 a technician went out left notes that a Wi-Fi extender was added, and the signal strength was 67%.
On 6/8/2022 Mrs. ****** called in said that one of her cameras was not showing up in the recording rules wanted to add the camera back on the app.
The customer service agent assisted Mrs. ****** and scheduled a virtual appointment for 6/9/2022.
On 6/9/2022 a virtual agent reached out to Mrs. ****** and did not get a response.
On 8/16/2022 Mrs. ****** reached out to ADT via online due to the driveway camera being offline.
The online agent assisted Mrs. ****** and set a service appointment for 8/17/2022.
On 8/17/2022 a technician went out left notes relearning driveway camera.
On 5/13/2023 Mrs. ****** reached out to ADT via online due to 4 cameras not working.
The online agent assisted Mrs. ****** and scheduled a service appointment for 5/16/2023.
On 5/16/2023 a technician went out left notes that the cameras keep dropping off on the 2.4 band the Wi-Fi extender is only programmed with the 2.4 band suggested that the modem be moved to the center of the house.
We reached out to Mrs. ****** to further assist she requested for the cameras to be changed out at no charge due to the troubles with the cameras.
We assisted Mrs. ****** and advised we can add a discount to the price to get the cameras changed out.
Mrs. ****** declined said she was not going to pay anything.

I am rejecting this response because: exactly, I called all of those times to report issues constantly. Your own workers stated the cameras were defective and to continue calling and letting them know. I've called and have been keeping tabs on every date and time. Which seem to be missing from your "time line". You can settle this by upgrading my cameras for free, refunding us for the faulty equipment or we can settle this in court and I will be 100% going for more than the camera equipment at that point. It's insane how this company would rather argue with a customer instead of providing good customer service. So glad I have so much evidence to prove how subpar this joke of a company is. Especially to a military family. Your tiny discount on new equipment will not fly. Your credits to my account on cameras that have not recorded since last year, is a JOKE. I think any NORMAL human would give up on this embarrassing system as we did. When we call we get attitude, transferred over an over. Wasting over an hour per call. We have LIVES. Your equipment should be working AS ADVERTISED.

We advised Mrs. ****** that no refund will be given due to the cameras being installed on 7/16/2020.

I am rejecting this response because: this subpar company did absolutely nothing to resolve any of the issues. I already stated my modem was moved and these incompetent people can't seem to grasp that my internet is obviously not the issue as they always try to fault it. Their own worker whom I have recorded, stated these cameras were a joke and to continue to report any issues so adt will upgrade our cameras. They think $252 is enough to cover their breach of contract by providing faulty equipment, never replacing anything or upgrading anything. As you can see I've had a long list or complaints til giving up and they've done nothing. This delusional company really thinks they owe us nothing. We'll see about that.

I was sold a package plan that included 2 free cameras 6 sensors a panel and free installation. My balance is over $1800. I added up the price of all the equipment and it was only around $800 I also added 1 smart lock because I had one of my own. My bill charged me for everything including my own lock. I have called over 5 times trying to get this fixed. Every time I call the agent claims they cant hear me. They give me the runaround and transfer me back and forth to sales. My cameras dont work half the time. I have packages delivered and they dont get recorded. All my packages when delivered are photographed with a time and date. I have these but no recording. My floodlight camera wont link up to my WiFi. I have even moved my routers next to it and nothing. To get a service call it is $95 for them to come out and they charge for every 30 minutes after that. Im alone and want a system that works and pay what i was told. The sales department said i got $800 in free equipment. They cant tell me what the $1800 is for and wont do anything about it. I owe for one lock and one camera. I was prepared to get more sensors and other products. That is when I found out they were over charging me. Plus the cameras rarely work. I recently found out that there is a case against employees watching peoples cameras so now Im concerned about my privacy. The amount of time I have spent on making phone calls which I spent on hold for most of is unreal. The most shocking was being charged for my own lock.Customer Answer

I tried to get them from the company, but they seem to be having difficulties with their system and wanted to use your system research says that yall are the best research. I have researched this problem and the number of people who have the same problem is outrageous. I am prepared to take the time to upload every single complaint I have found if necessary. This is looking like fraud and not a mistake made by ADT. I will not let this go until it is resolved. I refuse to accept that i am being robbed by the people who I hired to protect me. I have several contracts that adt has as well. The original agreement and the ones they have created after the fact. I have many of these contracts from people I dont know who are or have experienced the same scam. Enron I mean adt has done a bang up job at selling free merchandise that doesnt work and charging customers for dumb themselves down. Outsourcing is without a doubt a source being used. MY ADT CONTRACT, #********* EXPIRED IN JANUARY 2024. I STARTED CALLING ADT TO CANCEL MY SERVICE IN JANUARY 2023 BUT I WAS INFORMED THAT MY CONTRACT WOULD NOT EXPIRE UNTIL JANUARY OF 2024. I AGREED TO CONTINUE UNTIL 2024, AND I CONTINUED TO CALL ADT TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY UNDERSTOOD MY INTENTION. THE NEXT THING I KNOW A CONTRACT APPEARS ON MY EMAIL FRAUDULENTLY SIGNED UNBEKNOWNST TO ME, BY SOMEONE IN **********, AND I AM TOLD THAT I SIGNED IT AND AGREED TO A FIVE YEAR EXTENSION, WHICH WAS LUDRICOUS SINCE I WAS WORKING VERY HARD TO CANCEL THEM. I KEPT CALLING VOICING LOUDLY THAT I NEVER SIGNED ANY CONTRACT. THEY OFFERED TO SEND ME A FRAUD PACKET WHICH ARRIVED AND I DILIGENTLY COMPLETED IT AND RETURNED IT. I WAS HOLDING THE RETURN RECEIPT CARD IN MY HAND WHEN I CALLED TO CHECK ON THE STATUS OF THE COMPLAINT. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY NEVER GOT IT.
