Sallie Mae is a joke of a company. Was finally able to get out from their insane (targeted) interest rates, which ended up being an overpayment. I have been trying for 2 MONTHS to get MY money back from this company. They have taken my banking information (only to not use it) and have changed my address (incorrectly) 4 times. Unbelievable experience and cannot believe they are able to operate.

I unfortunately fell victim to using this student loan financial institution to get through school. I made a minimum payment of $25 a month while I was in school and made monthly payments when they started after I graduated. I went out on maternity leave the end of January 2025 and was out of work until the end of April 2025 so I was not able to make payments during this time. When I finally spoke to someone and informed them of my situation, I told them that my payments would resume the first part of May when I got my first paycheck and from then until my loan is current, they would receive a payment every two weeks (which is two payments a month) and then I would go back to just one monthly payment. This corporation is illegally obtaining information that has absolutely nothing to do with my loan and harassing family members. 10/10 recommend doing your research first before deciding whether to use this corporation or not. HONESTLY, JUST 10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND USING AT ALL.

Sallie Mae is a predatorial business that only seeks to suck as much money out of it's customers as it can. My brother is in defferment, and they won't stop trying to send him to collections....
AFTER I PAID OFF MY LOANS, THEY KEPT TRYING TO BILL ME. I had to fight so hard to get them to leave me alone...

I have health issues…I went back to school as an adult, not counting on ageism preventing me from getting a job. Sallie Mae contacting me because I’m in default yet when I talked to them before said they only allowed like one or 2 months grace period. So why ask for more. All of a sudden they’re calling my husbands ex-wife trying to get to me. So I finally call them. He said “can you drive? You can do door dash”
I lost it. I said they were low man on the totem pole of bills I needed to pay.
I was so upset. Then he insulted me when he was telling me he understood where I was coming from, I cried no he didn’t and he told me not to interrupt him. I hung up.
      I only owe about $4000. But I’m being harassed like it’s 40,000.
Just send it to the debt collectors or put a lien on my house. Whatever. Don’t harass me and the people I know

Applying for student loans today as my daughter will be attending a UC this fall. Saw Sallie Mae on Bank Rate with a fixed rate of 3.49%. I actually had my student loan with Sallie Mae back in the day. Filled in my info and income, as well as my daughter's; there was nowhere to include my wife's income, nor did the application request household income. Sallie Mae approved the loan at 8.5%. Interesting... I called to ask what happened to the 3.49%, but the representative said I would receive an approval letter with comments. My single income probably was not enough to cover the debt on my credit report, but they did not ask for household income. Stay away, and when Sallie Mae reads this, please clean up your act. Final question: Who does qualify for the 3.49%? BAIT AND SWITCH

Very fraudulent company!!! Be aware and stay away!!! They suck you in and then play games with you, falsifying claims, playing dumb, customer service people tell you one thing then do another! Make promises and don’t follow through after you sign!!! Again stay away!!! Wish someone would catch them at their games and sue them!!!

My experience with Sallie Mae has been extremely disappointing due to their unfair lending practices. Their interest rates are excessively high, and their repayment plans are inflexible, making it difficult for borrowers to manage their student loan debt. Additionally, their customer service is unhelpful and often unresponsive, leaving me feeling unsupported and frustrated. I strongly advise against doing business with Sallie Mae and recommend exploring other options for student loans. There are far better lenders out there who prioritize their customers' financial well-being and provide more reasonable terms.

My wife is a registered nurse and used them and she had 3 major surgeries in one year, a back surgery while she was pregnant, an emergency c-section, and her final fusion back surgery. And was not able to work per her surgeon and now we are being sued by Sallie mae

Absolutely terrible company. Daughter put her loans in deferment and they still make her pay a payment. She’s in school, not working much and cannot afford it. Sallie Mae how dare you take advantage of students to make money. Please do not go through them for your student loans.
