Applying for student loans today as my daughter will be attending a UC this fall. Saw Sallie Mae on Bank Rate with a fixed rate of 3.49%. I actually had my student loan with Sallie Mae back in the day. Filled in my info and income, as well as my daughter's; there was nowhere to include my wife's income, nor did the application request household income. Sallie Mae approved the loan at 8.5%. Interesting... I called to ask what happened to the 3.49%, but the representative said I would receive an approval letter with comments. My single income probably was not enough to cover the debt on my credit report, but they did not ask for household income. Stay away, and when Sallie Mae reads this, please clean up your act. Final question: Who does qualify for the 3.49%? BAIT AND SWITCH

Very fraudulent company!!! Be aware and stay away!!! They suck you in and then play games with you, falsifying claims, playing dumb, customer service people tell you one thing then do another! Make promises and don’t follow through after you sign!!! Again stay away!!! Wish someone would catch them at their games and sue them!!!

My experience with Sallie Mae has been extremely disappointing due to their unfair lending practices. Their interest rates are excessively high, and their repayment plans are inflexible, making it difficult for borrowers to manage their student loan debt. Additionally, their customer service is unhelpful and often unresponsive, leaving me feeling unsupported and frustrated. I strongly advise against doing business with Sallie Mae and recommend exploring other options for student loans. There are far better lenders out there who prioritize their customers' financial well-being and provide more reasonable terms.

My wife is a registered nurse and used them and she had 3 major surgeries in one year, a back surgery while she was pregnant, an emergency c-section, and her final fusion back surgery. And was not able to work per her surgeon and now we are being sued by Sallie mae

Absolutely terrible company. Daughter put her loans in deferment and they still make her pay a payment. She’s in school, not working much and cannot afford it. Sallie Mae how dare you take advantage of students to make money. Please do not go through them for your student loans.

Don't do business with this company. Requested a loan for my son's college and got 10K per semester. My son chose to unenroll for the spring semester and Sallie Mae disbursed 10K to the University without my approval. We did not request the funds nor approve disbursement. They left us with having to fight the university for the funds while accruing interest on a disbursement we did not want nor request.

Horrible CO. Has no consideration when it comes to hardship. Being disabled it makes it hard for me should I compromise my own health or do I deal with how they harsh regulations on payback school loans. This Company has no consideration of hardship nor do they make payments easier especially if you are consistent with payments no matter how hard it is to make these payments. If you struggle to payments you suffer and if you don't pay these ridiculous high interest loans that seem forever to pay off you still suffer. I can't buy a house or move on with my life because these loans makes almost impossible to buy a house or even a place to rent even . Or even help my mother as she is aging.

Unwilling to work with customers facing financial hardship. While they might offer what seems like a reduced payment program, they will continue to harass and threaten and ask for more money. Poor customer service.

I have a student loan with Sallie Mae that I’ve been paying off for years, yet I haven’t made a dent due to their outrageously high APR. Like many students, I was left with little choice but to turn to Sallie Mae to finance my education, but their loan terms have only trapped me in a cycle of debt. Sallie Mae’s predatory practices are well-known, but experiencing it firsthand has been a nightmare. They refuse to offer any meaningful assistance with my payments or to work with me in any way that might allow me to make real progress. To make matters worse, Sallie Mae harasses me with constant calls. They even go as far as contacting my friends and family, who have no ties to my loan, crossing serious privacy boundaries. The level of harassment is overwhelming and only adds stress to an already challenging financial situation. In my experience, their customer service has been terrible. Any time I’ve reached out, the representatives seem more interested in collecting payments than offering real solutions or even listening to my concerns. Their dismissive attitude and unwillingness to help have only made matters worse. After dealing with these unfair and potentially illegal practices, I am considering legal action. Sallie Mae’s high interest rates, harassment, and lack of support highlight how broken and exploitative their system is. If I could give zero stars I would. Never do business with them or take out a loan, they are currently also being sued by the government.
