Today, August 15, 2024, I found out the company, Just Answer, was making charges to my Discover card without my consent.In June 2024, I contacted Just Answer to get help with a problem. I received the answer from them and they told me that the charge was $5.00 (which I agreed to charge on my Discover card). Unbeknownst to me at the time, on that same day Just Answer charged me an additional $46, a supposed membership fee, I would later find out all without my knowledge. I later found out that Just Answer had subsequently charged my credit card another $46.00 in July 2024 and August 2024, respectively. Once I figured what was going on, I called them and canceled the so-called membership. When asked why I was canceling, I explained to them that they had been charging my credit card $46 each month without my permission since June 2024. They agreed to cancel the membership and refund the money. They said they would send me an email confirming this. Thus far I havent received any email, text or other communication. I went online, asked a question on ****** and was then directed to the website JustAnswer. It stated on the main page of the website it would cost $5 to ask a question. I thought this was a reasonable fee so I typed my question in the chat box that appeared. While waiting to be connected to someone I got a notice text from my bank asking about a $60 charge, which I knew I had not made... It was from JustAnswer. I went back to the chat to ask why I was being charged $60 and they tell me this is the monthly fee for the membership, which I most definitely didn't sign up for, nor was I made aware of at the time I asked my question. I thought the only fee I was paying was a one time fee of $5. The person that answered my question (after having to send 3 separate question posts to them to get a partial answer), also did no mention a membership or the $60 charge. I didn't agree to the charge in the first place? This is a terrible way to try and attract people to a business and as far as I'm concerned, pretty unethical.Business Response

I have opened an account with Just Answer in May-2024 and used their service once which I paid 10 quid. It NEVER send me an email or make it readable that there is a monthly subscription so I did NOT opt for that ever. Since then they start to charge me ********************************************************* email. I found it by going through my credit card statement. I therefore traced back all my emails from them and found they never sent any confirmation of such monthly subscription thing. I want to express that it is not easy for people to make money and survive in the inflation environment and why would such scam be tolerated. I want the business to refund the payments it got from my account (not the original one as I did use their service once but theyve ever since charged me 150quid or so) and stop to do this to damage the public interest. My account is the same as my email address and I can provide all email chains I have with them showing the absence of receipt of this enrollment, as well as any payment confirmation for the monthly subscriptionBusiness Response

The just answer site is tricky. They lead you into believing it's 5 dollars to answer one question I didn't make the connection about a monthly fee of $55.00. I tried to cancel but no refund. My question and one month membership cost $60.00. I usually am very good about catching scams even when legal scams. It really isn't fair how they worded it with it just $5.00. Somewhere your also signing up for a month membership. The shame of it is that the person I talk to answer my question and I was so grateful. Then I found out It was scam into a larger sum of money. It a good site for information but bait and switching is sad. It made a good thing bad. I just don't like being stupid.Business Response

I paid $5 on 7/4/2024 for an answer from a Auto Mechanic online. I am not charged $37.00 for a monthly subscription that I never signed up for. It appears the company takes the billing information for the $5 charge and automatically enrolls the customer in their service. This isn't a service I signed up for and I would like to be refunded the $37 that I didn't authorize.Business Response

I went to login to my bank account just to check my balance. To my surprise there was ***** dollars taken from my account on August 12th, 2024. I have no idea what JustAnswer is or what it does, because I never signed up for it. I contacted AARP Fraud, they told me to get in touch with my bank. The bank was closed but I contacted them by phone and left a message. My bank contacted me and suggested that I get a new bank card, because they can't block JustAnswer from taking more money each month. The lady from the bank a phone number which was***************). I called the number and got an automated message for people who are looking for ******** advantage insurance. I saw a phone number that was attached to my payment of $45.00 ***************). I called this morning and everything was automated and I wanted to speak to someone. I can't afford to have $45.00 just taken out of my account for something I never signed up for. On 8/15/2024 in the morning, I clicked on a JustAnswer link in ****** to ask for a computer programming question. A chatbot asked me to describe the question I had. After that, the chatbot sent me to a payment page stating, "Got it. I'm sending you to a secure page to join JustAnswer for only $1 (fully-refundable)." After putting in my card info, I checked my bank app and immediately had a pending charge for $55 from JustAnswer. When I asked a customer service *** through online chat, the *** said it was clearly stated that this is a membership-based service. Yet, when I entered my card info on the page it said "Got it. I went to JustAnswer.com in a moment of panic looking for answers for my dog. I was told by the chat person it would be 5.00. I entered my card info and was then charged an additional *****. They said it was on the website when I put in the card info. However when someone is in a state where they are seeking help they are going to take the initial report that it is 5.00 to ask a question. I asked for a refund. They refused. Im not complaining about that. Just about the fact that they make it appear that the charge is 5.00 and then charge an additional ***** and then they refuse to refund. After communicating with Just answer repeatedly and informing them I was contacting the BBB they have sent a refund. I do hope that they change their practice and tell customers that it is $5 for joining and $35 per month.
