I'm reaching out because I noticed a charge from your company (ICM*INSTANTCHECKMATE) on my account from November 2024 - August 2025, monthly at the rate of $35.47 totaling to $354.70. I did not resubscribe to your service, and my account should not be active.This charge was unauthorized, and it appears the account was reinstated without my consent. Please cancel the account immediately and issue a full refund for the recent charge. I would also like confirmation that my account will not be charged again moving forward.This kind of unauthorized billing is especially concerning given the **** recent enforcement action against Instant Checkmate and its related services. Consistent with applicable laws, all material terms, including billing details and automatic renewal terms, are disclosed before submitting payment information, and each user must check a box agreeing to those terms before being charged. Our billing terms are explained on our registration page and in our Terms of Use. Customers are also sent a confirmation email for orders placed.
Our records show Ms. ******* opened her account on October 12, 2021. The account was canceled on May 24, 2022, due to payment failure. On October 30, 2022, the account was reactivated with new billing details but was canceled on January 9, 2023.
On November 20, 2024, the account was reactivated a third time by Ms. ******* with new billing details. From that date, the membership remained active and was used through June 28, 2025. We do not have a record of any cancellation requests.
Per Ms. ******** request, we have canceled her account and provided her with a courtesy refund of her last month of membership fees in the amount of $35.47. This refund has been issued to the original payment method. No further charges will occur.
If Ms. ******* would like to delete her user data from our systems, she should click **************** Privacy Rights on the website footer and follow the instructions under the Right to Delete link. Deleting ********* will delete her account from our systems. Please note, we may retain some information as required to combat fraud, enforce billing agreements, provide evidence in legal matters, or as otherwise legally permitted.

Today, 08-11-25 I requested a report from Instant Checkmate a subsidiary of People Connect and they charge me $35.47. The report they sent did not include traffic and criminal complaints as promised and I know they exist. They then wanted to charge me another $5 supposedly refundable to speak to them about their deceitful practices, which I did not pay. In reviewing this company's history I learned they paid $8.5 million in settlements for their deceitful practices. They have many many complaints about them yet the BBB rates them as A+ which is almost laughable if it wasn't so frustrating. By them having this inaccurate rating it encourages potential customers to use them. Now they have all my personal info including my credit card info which I want removed from them plus I want the charge canceled. I know that the Maine BBB is very credible and would like action regarding their rating. It is certainly false considering all the complaints and suits they have had. We also want to clarify that there are no fees to speak with an Instant Checkmate representative. We are unsure what Ms. ******* is referencing regarding a $5 refundable charge to speak to them about their deceitful practices, as this is not a practice of our company.

I subscribe to ********, which is a company that ensures their clients personal information is removed from all data brokers and companies such as InstantCheckmate. ******** was not successful in doing so with this company because InstantCheckmate does not allow third party requests for removal, they only accept requests directly from the consumer. I have tried several times to make this request through email, however, I have just been ignored. I am simply asking that my personal information be removed. For personal reasons I dont need to share, I cannot have my information out for public consumption and it is within my right and within the law, to make this request.Business Response

Submitted suppression requests on multiple dates for my personal information available on their public site. Was assured multiple times that my information had been suppressed. My address, age, family members and other personally identifiable information remains available on the site. There are multiple matching records relevant to me on this site and they only suppressed one of them from what I can tell, not all of them. Requests submitted on July 22nd, 23rd, and 26th and was either told the record couldnt be found or that it was already removed. I still see the record even today publicly on the site. It is not a browser cache issue, I deleted my cache and even checked today for the first time on a new device. The site is not taking my lawful requests to suppress and remove my personally identifiable information seriously.Business Response

I had a refund needed and I emailed them. They gave me the refund but cancelled my account. My subscription is paid through 8/10/25 and their email said I would have access until then. I called and they will not allow access through the paid period. Additionally, I did not want my account closed. I have been a customer for 10 years and had a fixed monthly rate that is now gone due to my account being cancelled. I've had to create a new account at a much higher monthly rate. I'm seeking a refund for the old account that they've cut off access to and for my new account to have the same rate as my old account. Or a credit on the new one and my old account reinstated. I cannot believe they canceled my account without my permission and will not reinstate it as well as keeping me from having access to my paid subscription for the next month. While she mentioned possible fraud, she also indicated she wished to keep her account active. However, because the request was processed as a fraud claim, we refunded the charge and permanently closed the account. This is standard policy to protect against unauthorized use.
Ms. ******* followed up to express appreciation for the refund but requested continued access to her original account. Our support team explained that once an account is closed under a fraud designation, it cannot be reinstated, and access cannot be extendedeven if the membership was previously paid through a future date.
Ms. ******* has since created a new account using the email address ******************** and enrolled in a monthly Unlimited Person Report Membership. She then accepted a discounted All Access Bundle offer, which remains active. As requested, we have also refunded $35.47 to the original payment method used during this new sign-up.

We appreciate Ms. ******** continued feedback. Our records show she contacted our team to dispute a $19.99 charge and raised concerns about possible fraud. In accordance with our policies, the account was refunded and permanently closed. Once an account is closed under a fraud designation, it cannot be reinstatedeven if there was remaining time on the subscription.
We understand Ms. ******** concern about the loss of her previous rate. After creating a new account, she enrolled in a monthly Unlimited Person Report Membership and upgraded to a discounted All Access Bundle. As a courtesy, we issued a full refund of $35.47 for the new account.
It also appears a chargeback was submitted through her financial institution. As a result, the second account was automatically canceled and permanently disabled. We are unable to reactivate either account moving forward.

I have a brand new southwest Chase ***** which I received last week and on June 19 I received a charge of $27.49 for instant checkmate which I did not purchase.Business Response

Instant Checkmate is a public records search engine that compiles publicly available information into easy-to-read reports. Our memberships operate on a subscription model that renews automatically until canceled by the user, which is clearly outlined during the sign-up process. Full billing terms are displayed on our registration page (***********************************************) and detailed in our Terms of Use (***************************************************).
During registration, users must provide an electronic signature and actively agree to these terms before any charges are processed.
After a careful review, we located an account associated with the email ************************ which was used to search for public records on ***** ******.
In cases of suspected fraud, we always encourage the billed party to reach out directly so we can investigate thoroughly. Once confirmed, we immediately disable the account, cancel any active memberships, and refund the most recent charge.
As a courtesy, we have canceled and refunded this account, and disabled access to prevent any further use. The $27.49 charge has been reversed, and depending on your financial institution, please allow 35 business days for the charge to be fully removed.
