I utilize this business for a local move. They contracted it out to a local moving company. During the move, the crew dropped my washing machine and damaged it severely. After moving to the new home, I plugged in the washer and showed the moving company that it did not work. The owner of the moving company hired a repair person and the estimate basically totaled the entire washer in need of replacement. I filed an insurance claim with this company and followed their rules. They refuse to talk to anyone over the phone about damage claims. They stated they will only communicate with you over email. This has been extremely unprofessional and time consuming. They require customers to follow certain timelines for claims but yet do not follow timelines themselves. I have spoken to numerous customer service representatives, who just simply tell me they cannot help me.Business Response

I was charged a cancellation fee for a move but i was wrongfully charged for this cancellation. The movers who came stated they were unable to do the move. I asked why and they said distance - i dont see anything in contract about distance- the truck/pod was parked in parking complex of where i was moving with equipment i provided and an elevator. The movers who came told me im better off hiring someone else. I called hire a helper moment this happened and told me id be charged a cancellation fee even tho i was not cancelling - the MOVERS Cancelled. They were not able to move me day they promised, i want my $240 back.Business Response

We appreciate the opportunity to address the complaint filed by ********************* regarding their recent experience with a service provider from our marketplace. We take all customer feedback seriously and strive to ensure a positive experience for each of our clients.
Upon reviewing the details provided, we would like to offer clarity on the events that occurred during the scheduled move. Our moving service provider (MSP) arrived at the customer's location prepared to carry out the agreed-upon services. However, it became apparent that the distance between the customer's residence and the storage pod was substantial, which would have extended the duration of the job beyond the initially estimated time-frame. Our MSP communicated this information to the customer, explaining the potential for additional time needed to complete the move due to the distance involved. Unfortunately, the customer expressed dissatisfaction with the situation and opted to cancel the service. Despite our efforts to address the concern and provide alternative solutions, including rescheduling the move for a more suitable time, the customer chose to proceed with the cancellation.
As per our company policy, cancellations made by the customer after our team has arrived at the location may result in a cancellation fee. We communicated this policy to the customer, who acknowledged the associated fee. We understand the customer's frustration and regret any inconvenience caused. However, it's essential to emphasize that our MSP made every effort to fulfill the job as agreed upon in the booking. We remain committed to providing reliable and professional moving services to all our customers. We hope that this explanation provides clarity on the situation. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you require any further information or assistance regarding this matter. We appreciate your attention to this issue and thank you for your assistance in resolving it.Initial Complaint

I hired HireAHelper to load my *** for a price of, $******. I scheduled with them for February 18, 2024, between 1000 & 1100 hours for arrival. The movers did not show up until 1125 hours. We are on a schedule. They had a very strong odor of marijuana, the male movers eyes were pinpointed and very gloss. The started arguing with me about them being late and told me that if I wanted them to be on time then I should have booked 0900-1000 hours. This made no sense at all. We went back and forth and then the female mover stated, we can leave if you want. I stated ,yes, leave. I dont need people moving my belongings while under the influence of something. I immediately called the company and spoke with ***. I told her what had just happened and she apologized and stated she was going to escalate it to her supervisor and he would be calling me. Well finally at 1205 hours, I received a call from *****, who supposedly is a LEAD. Once again I explained the situation and ***** states ok, let me look into this and try and find another crew for you. I asked him if he took all of the information down and he states, I will get back to you and I asked how long he states in awhile. Well 4 hours later still no call so I call back ask for him, now he is at lunch and ** told he will call you when he gets back, I will send him a priority message. Again, no call from *****, after 2 hours more, I call him back, *** answers the phone, she remembers me and says, hold please Ill get him. ***** picks up and states, hello ***************, what can I do for you. I say, what can you do, I never heard back from you, he says, well its Sunday and I cant get another crew. So I ask, then why did you not call me. ***** states, Im still waiting to hear from people. I said its not almost 1800 hours, this is ridiculous. Who is your supervisor, dead silence, I ask again, he finally states, *****, I asked is he there, no he is not. I told him I want a full refund. No response.Business Response

Hire a helper chose to cancel my mover the day of the move due to “safety”, I informed HireAHelper there was other work that could be done while waiting for the ramp to arrive, they refused and told me I would be charged a fee, I said just cancel service, they charged a fee, no matter which way it was sliced I was getting screwed cause they refused to send the workersBusiness Response

We are sorry this occurred during your booked service. The frustration is warranted; it is always difficult to know you paid for a portion of services that were unable to be provided. You booked labor assistance to unload your items into home. The movers were unable to begin work due to the vehicle not having the ramp that allows for safe and efficient access to the back of the truck. The movers you hired deemed the unloading would be unsafe and offered to reschedule but due to the last minute nature of this adjustment, it does carry a cancellation/last minute date and time change fee.Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about your experience. A copy of your terms of service and confirmation have been included for your reference.

Fact of the matter is I said there was other work that could be done while we waited on the ramp, you all refused to send them anyways, the ramp showed up an hour later and they could have transitioned to the truck at that time, like stated in the Recorded phone calls. You all refusing is the issue, a full refund is the only route in which this is resolved in a satisfactory manner.Business Response

We appreciate your request for more information on this matter. Attached are three highlighted segments from your Confirmation of Booking that may shed some better light on the specific costs and policies impacting your service cancellation fee. Any cancellation that occurs within an hour of the set start time is scheduled to incur a fee of $230.00 that is paid to the moving company for their lost window of service. Your cancellation occurred because the standard safety items were not on site to allow the crew to safely and efficiently unload your truck. The crew was hired to unload a truck into a house and they were not able to do this due to the missing ramp. We have attached the portion of the confirmation that designates the service to be provide.
You refused any attempts to reschedule the service due to the rescheduling fee. We are sorry to know this occurred on your service request.

I didn't cancel it, nor did I authorize canceling, you all FORCED a cancelation. I was very clear in the recorded phone call that there was other work to do while waiting for the ramp and YOU all REFUSED to send the workers. That is on you, not me. What's crazy about this is you all had multiple chances to make this right, including now, and you all refuse.Initial Complaint

I hired this company for a moving items out of a storage unit. They state there is a three hour minimum, which is standard. They also have an option to pay for additional time. I paid for an additional hour not knowing how long the move would take. The move took 2 hours and was subcontracted to a separate company. When the move was over I contacted the company about returning the additional funds that were not used outside of the three hour minimum. They refused to return the money, then blamed it on the subcontracted company.Business Response

On June 17, 2023, we hired **** to move our possessions from **********, ***** ****** to *** *****, ******. On July 3, 2023, we hired Hire A Helper to provide movers. On 8/29/23 hire-a-helper sent movers to my home to empty a pod with my belongings into my new home. Previously when booked I had ordered another mover but a half hour later I received a call from hire-a-helper that the company I reserved was unavailable and they chose a new company for me (bait and switch). The new company was horrible. They sent two you men who dragged all my furniture and ruined my floors. Took off my mattress protectors on my new mattresses and dragged them in the mud and rain (we were having a hurricaine that day). When I asked where were my protectors they lied and said they were not on them. They dropped every one of of lanai couch cushions in the the mud. I had to shampoo each one by hand. They through my totes wherever they pleased and it was like they never did this before. I ended up telling them to leave my house before the job was done before they did any more damage. They snuck back in when I was on the phone with their boss and I had to throw them out and lock my door, I felt threatened. I tried filing a claim with the company but it was a joke. They had me get two estimates for my floor and one was for over $****** and the other over $******. Right now I have bought rugs for all the rooms in my home. My mattresses smell and keep spraying them with ******** and tried cleaning them. I reversed the charge on my ******** but they had it reversed back. They offered me $***** and I was going to accept that just because I didn't feel like fighting but that's before I knew they got charge reversed. They wouldn't even come to my house and look at the damage. They wouldn't even give me a phone number so I could talk to person. My only contact was Lydia through e-mail. This company is a joke. How can they do a bate and switch and do that kind of damage and get away with it. I am seriously considering legal action if I don't get a resolution with this venue.Business Response

This business would not even give me their phone number to discuss the claim. This business would not send out any representative to my home to see the damages. This business was not the business I originally hired, it was conveniently swapped out. This business did not send out qualified workers to my home. I signed the agreement before they had the Discover charges reversed and told them that mad the agreement null and void. These people are scam artists.Initial Complaint

Title: Terrible Experience with Hire a Helper
I had an absolutely dreadful experience with Hire a Helper. I had scheduled their services to assist with moving my furniture, and I paid the full amount in advance. However, on the day of my move, the truck company (******) couldn't find the key to the rental truck. This unfortunate situation was entirely out of my control, but Hire a Helper's response was beyond disappointing.
When I explained the situation to Hire a Helper and requested a refund or to reschedule, they refused to accommodate my request. Despite the fact that their employees couldn't perform the service they were paid for due to circumstances completely unrelated to me, Hire a Helper decided to keep my full payment.
This is a clear demonstration of their lack of understanding and empathy towards their customers. It's utterly unfair to hold onto my money when I received no service at all. It's a complete disregard for customer satisfaction and basic decency.
I strongly advise anyone considering using Hire a Helper's services to think twice. They have shown themselves to be a company that prioritizes profit over customer satisfaction. My experience with them has been nothing short of a nightmare, and I hope my review serves as a warning to others who might be considering their services.Business Response

Dora ******,
Thank you for providing feedback about your experience. We glad to know we were able to locate a service provider that could assist you on such short notice. Same-day requests are often difficult to fulfill. It is truly unfortunate the keys were lost to the box truck and the service provider was unable to assist you with your loading needs.
When booking same-day services, we always ensure the customer is aware that, once confirmed, no refunds will be processed as we are reserving the window with the service provider. The service provider you hired traveled to your location and arrived on site ready and willing to provide services before the cancellation was requested. We spoke with you on the day of service to provide additional options and explained the full amount would be owed since the service was booked same-day and the service provider arrived on-site.
We have attached your Terms of Service and a snip of the confirmation sent to you with relevant information about the cancellation policy. It is always unfortunate when variables like this occur during a move. HireAHelper does it's best to provide clear communication about our more rigid policies for last minutes services and strive to be flexibly with our customer when able. However, once the crew arrives on-site we are obligate to provide them full compensation for their time and efforts and are unable to make any possible concessions.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

I hired movers. The movers provided completely unsatisfactory service, they did not properly completed the service. Unusable so bad that I need to hire another company to do the work. I called to make a complaint immediately and was advised that a claims agent would call me back. He never did. I did receive an email asking me to explain my complaint. I responded, but never heard back. I then received a voicemail from a claims agent denying my claim. I tried to reach him to speak to him, but there is no way to directly contact the claims department. I was told by the regular customer service agents multiple times that a claims agent would call me back - it never happened. My claim was denied on the basis that I did not contact them soon enough - but I placed the claim less than 24hrs after the time of service. Spent hours trying to get a hold of the claims agent, was never able to. Finally got a call back from ****, a month later. He proceeded to talk in circles, without answering any of my questions, and without explanation or justification of why my claim was denied. This company has a Service Guarantee that is outlined in their Terms, but they do not honor it. Hire A Helper made it impossible to contact them to resolve the issue, and then when they finally decide to call back, give no information and simply state they cannot do anything. Their Service Guarantee is a lie. Their customer service is abysmal. They cannot be trusted to honor what they claim to provide. Liars and cheats.Business Response
