I called Taxrise in Dec, 2022 regarding a 16K tax bill. I spoke to an advisor ************************* regarding my situation. I gave her all my financial information including that I had a small amount of money in a trust. I was told trusts don't matter. After going through many people (they all left the company). After constant calling to see where my case was, I finally got a resolution that I owe the money because if the trust. I paid $4100 and received an even larger tax bill with more interest. I was misdirected and would have hired someone else instead. They prey on desperate people. DO not pay these people a dime.Business Response

I talked to them in April I paid $500 to research my tax problem. They then called and said it would be $4000 more to fix the problem as they try to work with the *** to lower my amount owed. I started paying monthly payments of $118.06 on May 28, 2021 and every month after. I have waited patiently for them to solve it. I called and emailed to see where my case was. I was told they were expediating it. Nothing happened and then in October I received an email stating that they needed more information. I sent them what they needed. I heard nothing from them and noticed they didn't take Novembers payment. I called them they told me they dropped my case because they never received my paperwork. I told them I had sent it, I was placed on hold and she saw that I had sent the needed paperwork but wanted payment before they proceed again. I am not happy with them for what they have done. I was called by another company and was informed this should have been solved in 8 to 12 months. I am going on almost 3 years. I have received no emails from them. I had to call them to get any information. When I called I was told the closed my case due to not have the documents they requested. I then told ***** that I had sent them the next day by fax. She put me on hold and came back and said yes she had received them. But I had missed a payment. They take the payment from my account every month. So they didn't take my payment. I feel like they have prolonged my case and are not willing to resolve just want to make me pay so they can continue not helping me.Business Response

I have tried to call them back and I am placed on hold every time I call. The automated machine tells me zero wait time. I am placed on hold for 5 minutes and I get hung up on. It knows the number I am calling from. I really don't think they want to resolve this. I was pressured by this company to hire them to assist me in resolving my tax issues. I paid them $350 alone just to obtain and review my tax transcripts. They misled me into believing that they could help me get into a program that will give me a fresh start. I don’t believe they negotiated anything. They filed past due returns and didn’t keep me informed of anything. They just settled the case for an outrageous monthly payment amount and charged me $8000 to do so. I would have been better off calling the *** directly. Now im in even more debt. They must work off commission and scamming people and getting them to sign these predatory contracts. We contacted taxrise back in July of 2022. They interviewed ** and gathered all our info including financial . We were approved for the fresh start program . We paid 375 to start . Theyre charging us **** to handle our issues . We have faithfully paid them ****** for past year and a half and they still havent resolved anything ! We have gone thru 3 case managers and they want us to send our bank and payroll info every few months . Not sure why they never turn it in ? We have made all of our payment arrangements to state s ourselves because they came into my paycheck and garnished wages . This is not suppose to happen when you pay them to take care of all tax issues ! We also had them do our 2021 taxes which they charged us to do ! They forgot to send it to state so we were charged 400 late fee ! They also did tge taxes wrong so we went to HR block to have.taxes amended . This cost us 250 . This company takes avantage of people who need help and scams them ! Taxrise should be reported and shutdown . Its been 1 1/2 and out case is not resolved yet ! I had the first case worker tell me that the more you pay off their company the faster your case is resolved .That is so wrong and terrible ! All we want is our **** back, we still owe **** to them ! Initial engagement with TAx Rise, August, 2023; paid $350 for "assessment" and went over options (installment, offer in compromise). agreed to $498 monthly payments and that process could ***********-12 months (or longer). I have followed up multiple times as nothing appeared to be moving forward in portal. Finally connected with someone for an update and was told "nothing gets assigned to case manager until 25% of payments are made (we are at 14%); provided tax lien info (they were unaware liens had been filed - how can that be if they've been working on this since August?) I advised we are in a time crunch with a 1/24/24 deadline and found out today that "they can't help in that timeline" and that 50% of balance needed to be paid (no longer) 25% asked for a refund since NOTHING has been done and was advised that I am outside of the 3 day recission period to cancel. Said they would provide copies of transcripts and file documents thus far. Note, website shows Phase II reconciliation as "3-6 months" only to find out a certain % needs to paid before they begin working on the file, Complete waste of time. Very unhelpfulBusiness Response

I hired Tax Rise to fix my tax problems almost 2 years ago. I financed the charge that they charged me which was a little over ****** after finance charges. They have collected **** of that money taking 334 automatically from my account which is what adds up to the **** in which theyve received. Mine you TAX RISE HAS NOT DID ANYTHING NOT ONE THING OTHER THAN TO INVESTIGATE MY CASE TO SEE IF THEY CAN HELP ME. THEY CHARGE A NONREFUNDABLE FEE OF $500. They will keep it if they can not help you but will subtract it off of whatever they charge you to take your tax case. During the time I was contacted by a tax officer **************************** from the *** OFFICE at *********************************. IN 2 hours I sat down with this lady and was able to come to an agreement. She also informed me of so much things that I never knew and would have never known had I not honored that important letter she sent me for a meeting. They were planning to **** my accounts etc. The very same situation I was trying to avoid when I hired TAX RISE. IMMEDIATELY as soon as I left the meeting I discontinued the automatic payment to Tax Rise and called them to talk about my situation with them. I spoke to a person by the name of ***** he was fairly polite he listened to everything I said and told me that he totally understands and he will have to present the matter to his supervisor. He placed me on hold and came back saying that his supervisor said theyll reimburse me $500. I refused he then put me on hold again came back and said his supervisor said h*** reimburse me $1000. I asked him if he can answer me 1 question ? What did you do for me to keep **** of my hard earned money??? He could not because the fact of the matter is they did nothing. If they want to keep any money it should be the original 500 they charge you for consolation!!! Hes sending me emails for me to sign and Im not signing anything unless its my full refund. These documents have not be provided by you as of today 12/04/2023 and we are unable to finalize our work without those documents.
According to the Service Agreement you signed on 05/17/2023 per section 3 you agreed to provide the requested info within 30 days of our request.
This includes copies of any IRS letters you receive so that we could keep you protected from collection activity within 10 day of receipt of the letter, we have not received copies of such letters.
We left several voicemails and sent several messages attempting to reach you to remind you of the missing documentation.
At this time you do not qualify for a full refund due to the breach of contract, for your satisfaction we will honor the original offer of $1,000 for your satisfaction.
Please let us know if you would like to proceed with this refund.

Dear Better Business Bureau,
I am writing to file a formal complaint against TaxRise, detailing my concerns regarding their business practices. Despite my efforts to address these issues directly with the company, a satisfactory resolution has not been achieved. The key areas of concern are as follows:
Misrepresentation and Bait-and-Switch:
During our communication, it became evident that TaxRise engaged in a classic bait-and-switch tactic. The company oversold its services, making promises that were drastically underdelivered upon. I possess documented evidence, including specific instances where outcomes were misrepresented.
Price Gouging:
TaxRise has violated legal and ethical standards by engaging in price gouging based on the amount owed to the IRS. Charging more for a service due to a higher debt is both unlawful and unethical. My comparison with other cases reveals substantial discrepancies in charges, indicating an unfair and unjust practice on TaxRise's part.
Unfulfilled Commitments:
TaxRise failed to uphold several commitments conveyed during the sales process. These commitments included assurances of preventing tax liens, reducing payments to a range of $200-$1000, eliminating late fees and interest, and implementing programs to significantly reduce the overall amount owed. None of these commitments were fulfilled, necessitating personal negotiations to address unmet promises.
Deceptive Practices and Lies:
Disturbingly, evidence has come to light suggesting intentional misinformation and lies by TaxRise representatives. This breach of trust raises significant ethical concerns about the company's integrity and commitment to honest business practices.
Resolution Sought:
I am seeking the intervention of the Better Business Bureau to facilitate a resolution with TaxRise. My primary objective is a fair and just resolution that includes, but is not limited to, a review of the charges, rectification of misrepresented outcomes, and compensation for the unmet commitments. I'm requesting a full refund.
Actions Taken:
Despite my attempts to address these issues directly with TaxRise, my concerns were met with resistance. If a resolution is not reached by [reasonable deadline, e.g., 15 business days from the date of this complaint], I intend to escalate this matter by filing additional complaints with relevant authorities.

During your conversation with your Quality Assurance Specialist, Karla *********, on Friday December 1, 2023 she offered you a refund in the amount of $2,000 for customer satisfaction and this included the Arizona resolution which was our next step in completing.

Rejection of TaxRise's Response - Formal Complaint
Dear Better Business Bureau,
I am dissatisfied with TaxRise's response to my complaint. Their reply does not address the serious issues raised. I provide further details on the ongoing problems:
Bait-and-Switch: TaxRise engaged in a bait-and-switch tactic, overselling services and failing to deliver promises made during the sales process. The evidence presented is ignored in their response.
Price Gouging: TaxRise violated legal and ethical standards by engaging in price gouging. Discrepancies in charges, compared with similar cases, indicate an unfair practice.
Recorded Conversations: TaxRise refused to provide transcripts or recordings of multiple phone conversations. This lack of transparency raises concerns.
False Payment Representation: TaxRise provided inaccurate information about payments to the IRS, breaching trust and causing financial consequences.
False Assurance on Tax Lien: Assurances that I wouldn't receive a tax lien were later contradicted. This conflicting information is misleading.
Demand for Full Refund: Given these ongoing issues and TaxRise's failure to address them, I formally demand a full refund. Promised services were not delivered.
Lack of Written Communication: TaxRise avoids providing information in writing, relying on verbal communication. This lack of documentation raises transparency concerns.

The Business is a fraud! I paid $3500 02/01/23 for help with back Tax issues. They never respond to emails my account has been transferred to 3 account managers at this point. I have NO resolution and I keep getting letters from the *** which they were supposed to help with. They send generic emails asking for documentation without even telling you what documents are needed. Once I called and figured out what was needed the items they were asking for didn't exist. I told them several times I don't have the items and they continued to ask for them. I have several emails that have never been responded to and the lack of communication has been horrible. I got a letter from the *** stating they were going to levy my back account for back taxes they were supposed to help with. It was a huge mistake to pay them for help when they have done nothing to help me with my situation. I can provide the emails as documentation as to how horrible my account has been handled.
