I am very very concerned about a recent notification I received about this organization concerning the storage, sale, or distribution of my personal information. Upon reviewing this notification, I decided to exercise my right to opt out. However, I noted that your opt-out process requires photo ID validation.I find this requirement inappropriate, as it necessitates providing additional personal information to facilitate the removal of data that, to my understanding, should not have been collected, stored, or used without my explicit consent. I have not given this company permission to sell or publish my private and personal data. They have acquired through other means and I need my data removed. I will not provide a driver license or id as that was not requested to publish my data. I recently got notification from my data privacy company about the storage, sale, or distribution or my personal information and desired to opt out. When going through the process to opt out is required a photo ID validation. Not only am I not going to give the company more information to remove information that should not be stored anyways, but I just want my information deleted and removed from their servers as I did not consent to the use, replication, sale, or storage of my personal information. At this point I called and talked to a representative over the phone, and he informed me that it would be removed in three to five days, but it was not. I would like confirmation that it has been removed in its entirety and that I do not need to supply more information to do so.Business Response

Background Alerts is a business that profits off of distributing unwilling participants personal and legal information to anybody willing to pay. This information is likely bought from an unsavory business who sells information harvested under false pretenses (to provide an entirely unrelated service). I have had no contact with this business prior to receiving an alert from my security this month, about how my personal information has been being sold. Because of the nature of this business, I do not know the extend my information has been leaked, due to being unwilling to give them any money. My complaint is with the practice of requiring physical evidence of the victims identification- it is immoral to REQUIRE even more legal information for such a untrustworthy business. I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding the unauthorized and harmful disclosure of my personal information by Background Alert through their system. I tried to submit a request to OPT OUT and have my data removed but the company is requiring that I provide them a copy of my photo ID.
