Summary of Issue:Public Storage has increased my monthly rent three times in less than a year without providing any notice or communication.Details:I originally rented my storage unit at $128 per month. Since September 13, 2024, my rent has increased as follows:$128 ? $167: 30.5% increase $167 ? $193: 15.6% increase Overall increase: 50.8%These increases happened without any written or verbal notice. I received zero communication before each rent hike. Why Im Filing This Complaint:Public Storages repeated, unannounced increases feel unfair and unethical.I was not given the opportunity to make an informed decision, move my belongings, or prepare financially. This pattern of behavior seems designed to trap long-term customers into paying inflated rates

They have raised my rent and the charging me late fee and just more funds than it should be. I'm going to sue them if I'm not given a free Month credited to my account.

I have been renting from Public Storage for about 4 months. I just received an increase of $35 which is over 33%. Wish I had read these reviews before renting. They really have you over a barrel because your only recourse if you don't like the increase is to move all of your belongings. And they don't give you a reason for the increase.

They continue to raise your rates my unit went from 72 to 134 in 10 months. also no compensation when gate was broken and could not access unit outside of office hours and now upon moving out on August 2nd have been told they no longer prorate and I will have to pay whole month. I have always used and recommended public storage but no longer! What a shame. Guess they don't know what word of mouth does for a company.

My experience with Public Storage was terrible - including predatory price increases, insufficient security (including 2 break-ins in 6 months) and poor customer service/responsiveness. The **** summary is -- stay away and find a different solution for storage!Public storage increased my rental price twice in the first 8 months for a total of 78% increase over the starting rate. This is beyond market dynamics or a sign-on promotion - it is predatory behavior.I suffered from two break-ins to the unit in about a 6 month period. The unit was damaged and required a repair - which took 2 weeks for basic plywood to cover an opening and then 3 months to replace the metal wall. They did not add security camers or lighting to my unit area after the first break-in (or the second).Public storage was hard to communicate with - not responsive via email or text, often not answering the phone during business hours. I made 3 separate trips to the office during posted hours to retreive a key from them, but did not see an employee on site. After requesting and receiving a refund for one month after the second break-in, a corporate office called saying I had an "improper refund" and needed to pay the balance due, or I would be referred to collection agency.

Be prepared for rates to go up almost every month. I received one notice of rate increase in 2.5 yrs. This location doesnt either know Missouri laws on liens & auction laws. My unit leaks. My items in the back were wet & moldy. Be prepared the insurance they sell you which is mandatory . Doesnt cover your items getting wet unless they are properly stored in water tight containers and all items including furniture are sealed or covered completely in plastic. Read the fine ********************* Good luck getting ***** of anyone who will help w billing or facility issues. The place has a locking gate. I have received emails from ** stating my unit was left unlocked and I had to come secure it. I hadnt opened my unit for a minimum of 3 months. So how this occurred is beyond me. I called asking the location about the email and was told they werent allowed to lock it. I explained I was out of town burying my mother and hadnt been there in months. That still didnt get them to tell me if I received the email by accident. Just be aware of the constant rate increases. My rent has more than doubled since I initially rented with them.

First I want to say that **** in the office is amazing, and very helpful.I thought that Public Storage was a trustworthy company when I stored my possessions with them for years. Sadly, I learned the hard way that this is not the case. The company had a system glitch several years ago that dropped insurance for some customers without their knowledge. I did not realize my insurance was gone until rodents destroyed my belongings. I filed a claim with Public Storage and Orange Door right away, but it took a week to get a response. I was told Public Storage and Orange Door wont cover the damage because I am one of those who lost their insurance. They would not help me at all!I would be wary of storing your belongings with Public Storage.

I moved out my belongings after they decided to raise the rent $50.00 per month without notice. Then after moving out on the 13th of the month they advised me that I will not be reimbursed for the remainder of the month.

***RENTER BEWARE ***Public Storage has a habit of raising rates without warning. They lure customers in with low initial prices, then gradually increase charges over time. Most recently, the monthly rate jumped to around $132, and the late fee was hiked from $50 to a staggering $137.This company is only practical if you're looking for short-term storage. If you're considering a long-term arrangement, steer clearPublic Storage doesnt appear to value ongoing customer relationships. Their corporate model seems designed to overcharge, relying on the assumption that moving to a different provider feels like too much hassle. There are other storage companies that offer facilities equal toor better thanPublic Storage. Honestly, they should be your absolute last resort, only worth considering if you're truly desperate. The sad thing is that they never used to be like this. They no longer care, and there billing shows it.

I just moved out of my Public Storage locker in *********, **. Why? Because they raised my rent 200% over the 20 months of my stay there. While I expect inflation raises of 5-15% annually, Public Storage (PS) takes big advantage of the fact that you have already paid a lot of money, and spent a lot of time, moving-in, so they know they have you - they are the worst kind of bullies. I called, sent texts via their website, and spoke personally to the manager of my facility, and he related that this is standard practice at PS, and that many other renters there had also complained (in fact, one was on the speaker phone while I was leaving complaining about the same price increases). Management continues the practice, and I suppose it is their business model to rip off their customers, because they know they have your stuff, and many times the people have moved, are out of state, or otherwise unable to move their belongings in short order. It's a really poor model that abuses their customers, and I will never, ever work with them again. The PS management and ownership are really stupid people, because I would have stayed there for years if they hadn't ripped me off so badly. The greed they exhibit should be illegal, and I hope one day it is. All I can do is tell as many people as I can not to use them, so they too don't get taken advantage of like me. Image how bad the management and ownership is that they destroy their brand value like this. Really a shame, and the owners and management should really examine their moral and ethical boundaries, as well as their financial plan. Word is out on Public Storage, and it isn't good. Don't stay here with these thieves.
