I recently had my trash can taken away for having an inactive Republic Services account. The inactive status comes from nonpayment. The challenge for this comes from believing that I was paying my bill through my online account, when in actuality there was an old card (that needed to be removed from autopay) in order for the new card to be entered. I have since deleted everything and updated my information, however, every single time I have believed myself to make a payment, the website is telling me that the payment was successful. If I believe the payment is successful, I'm not going to suss out an issue to update the information; it doesn't alert me that there is an issue with the account. Now, I can't get a trash can until the 23 and my trash wont' be picked up until the 1st. I understand the matter of nonpayment, and so it is what it is. The misinformation was confusing for me. And also, when I called customer service (2 different representatives--one international and one within the **), they couldn't tell in looking in their systems that I made a payment before I called, so they were asking for the same money again. A wonderful resolve would be having your IT team use your systems to properly make people aware if a payment was successful or declined THROUGH THE CHANNEL OF PAYMENT, use the customer preferred methods of communication to communicate issues to customers. Overall, if I think it's paid because the site told me it was paid, I'm not checking for any additional communication from your company except for trash pickup pushbacks for holidays and inclement weather. The attachments depict a payment confirmation from July 1 when I thought the bill was paid, and a payment confirmation from today with updated account information where the bill should hopefully be posting as paid--we won't know because the customer service teams can't see the payment (not their fault). Maybe it's a CRM issue.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Upon review of the account, we identified the declined payments, as well as the messages sent to the contact email on file informing the customer of the payments being declined by the financial institution on 05/04, 07/01, and for one of the payment methods used on 07/18. There was a successful payment on 07/18 to reinstate the services with container delivery and the service is now active.

In December I signed up for garbage service through Republic and immediately set up online bill pay through my bank and paid the bill. A month or so later I got a past due notice, so not wanting to be delinquent, I called and paid with my card. Later I saw ******* account had indeed been withdrawn in December so I called to dispute. Via email correspondence (which I have saved) I was asked to provide a bank statement, which I did. After that they asked for further proof. At this point I had to much time wrapped up so I chalked it up as a loss and requested they cancel my service. Early the next week I get an automated call requesting I have my garbage cans on the curb so they can pick them up (Assuming this confirms my cancelation) They didnt pick them up but I continued to get the calls and I continued to put out my cans. I then started getting calls and notices for increasing fees for outstanding payments, failure to give back trash cans. I called several times, being on the phone for hours ( I can screenshot call records) being told at the end of the call that the situation was resolved, just to be harassed several days later.. The last call the lady refused to resolve it, said she would transfer it to another department and they will call me back. I never heard back from republic but now my I am being contacted by a collections agency.

We have spoken with Mr. ****** In review of his account, he was not credited for the second container charge on his account once the container had been removed. This credit has been placed on his account and will be pulled from collections. In looking at his previous payment history, there was only 1 payment made in January on his account, so no credit for any double payment is needed. Customer was satisfied with this resolution.

Well. Aware that there is a strike. There is also, supposedly, a contingency plan in place. We have been hailing what we can to the town facility. Nevertheless, our recycling and garbage (which were out for pick up when the strike arrived without warning). Seven time RS has failed to pick up this trash. On the last go around, they finally sent someone to our neighborhood and then skipped all the branch streets. New guys? Sure seems like a simple update. Please add the skipped streets to the contingency. Every attempt to ****** an answer to that desire has been met with some version of GFY. Even dumbing it down to, how would you like us to report that branch streets have fallen off the contingency plan, has failed to engender a response. The previous issue was random people dumping stuff on the corner of our property. ** employees decided to handle it by retacking it on our property. Same question, What would you like us to do? Never got a straight answer. So, and this is the critical part, ** is contractually obligated to pick this stuff up. If we cannot get ****** to even simple questions? Then we will once again start charging for the services If they once again say, We are going to come get it, which would be the 8th time in a row, and then fail to do it, we wil remove it for them for a charge. I charge a $250 flat fee for emergency junk removal and I will recover costs through small claims. This is apparently the only way to get an answer to, How do we ensure you know we are here? If there is no contingency in place? That too would be relevant information. But GFY and your family is not an answer to the question.

Republic Services drivers are on strike my community has not had garbage aero e I 3 weeks. The issue Im having is we are all still being charged for our services. They are literally stealing from us, I have called and they will not credit our accounts any money back.

      Business Response

      Date: 07/19/2025

      Good afternoon,

I apologize for the challenges caused by the strike.  Looking at the photo provided, that is for services starting in May.  We have provided drop points 6 times in the last week in ****** and Kent to help provide an option for all of our customers during the current strike.  I completely empathize with these frustrations as it has had an impact on us all.

As for credits that may based on the work stoppage, that will be worked through with the cities once normal operations begin.

      Customer Answer

I spoke with them on the phone and the customer service agent specifically said there will be no credits and blamed it on the striking workers. I however have never paid the drivers I pay the company. They are literally stealing customers money if we pay for a service and do not receive the service. I asked to cancel my service until the strike is resolved, they informed my I can only cancel if I am moving. Essentially this monopoly business can charge us whatever and they do t even have to provide the service. Furthermore I was not made aware of any drop off locations but also that is not what I signed up for either, but I did take my garbage and all my neighbors to the local dump.
As we are headed into yet another week of no service now I would like $180 to be credited for the cost of the dump and my time going to the dump.
      Thank you

Communications were sent to ************** which is the number we have listed on your account, this would have included Robo-Calls that outlined if there was a service delay or each day that we had a drop point.  Please let me know if that number is incorrect.  If there are service credit's to be issued, customers will be made aware, that part of the process is handled between the Cites and Republic Services.

I have trash collection service with Republic that is active and paid for. On 7/15, republic took our trash can with no notification or communication at all. I tried to contact them several times before I was able to finally get a hold of a ********** stated that they screwed up, but they refuse to deliver a replacement trash can until next week.

I am writing to formally request a service credit for two weeks of missed trash collection at my address due to the recent work stoppage affecting Republic Services operations in our area. As a paying customer, I rely on consistent and timely ********************** collection services, and the disruption has caused significant inconvenience.Given that service was not rendered during this time, I believe it is fair and reasonable to request a prorated credit for the two-week period in which my trash was not picked up.

      Business Response

      Date: 07/18/2025

We are extremely sorry that this situation has impacted our customers in **************** and other cities in ********** for so long. A few notes that might give some background and help.
      1. Republic Services' drivers in ********** are not on strike. Their contract with the company is current and valid. They are choosing to not cross the picketers from other areas of the country who have set up at our local yards. We respect their rights to do so, but please understand they are very eager to get back to work.

      2. All **************** customers will be receiving credits for all missed service. Customers do not need to do anything to receive credit. Republic is coordinating with the City of **************** to issue the credits and they will automatically be applied to the next bill cycle.

      3. Republic Services has been setting up drop off sites within **************** daily for residential customers to help get some of the backed up material out. Republic will continue to hold these events in **************** every weekday until our drivers return to work. Information on the locations and times of these are located on the City of **************** website as well as Republic Services website.

We hate to let our customers down and hope the labor dispute that is going on outside of our area is resolved quickly. Our drivers here love their jobs and their customers and are very ready to get this messed cleaned up as soon as the picket line is gone. I hope some of this info can be some help and we look forward to getting back to normal soon.
      Thank you.

I have been paying my bill monthly for 4 years. They refuse to render services or provide financial relief or compensation due to what they are proclaiming the issue is a union dispute. They also proclaim that this is temporary. While can understand this, but they had plenty of time to come up with an alternative solution including refunds and compensation. As well as a backup plan in case this is prolonged longer than a month. Today I reached out to them for financial relief while I and my neighbors are denied service. I asked about a plan in case this strike drags out. They refused. I was told to keep paying my bill. They refuse to provide an address or email address to their account payable department so that I may submit my personal expenses for mileage to and fro the landfill that I should NOT be going to and any damages done to my vehicle while performing their business duty without compensation. Please keep in mind, I am not an employee. I should NOT do employee related activities for free of charge. The CEO made over $12 million last year. He knew about this strike and failed to warn their cities/towns and paying customers. They apparently are refusing to resolve their employee dispute and failing to explain to us why their problem is our problem.

Here's the thing that is rage inducing. Please explain to me like I'm 5 on why I should accept this. Use sock puppets and crayons if needed.

If say I had a heart attack and unable to pay my bill, you would NOT be so kind and work with me on the bill. You would cancel service within 3.3 picoseconds. However you knew about this strike for months. There were negotiations that went back and forth. They warned you that a strike was going to happen. You took it as a joke. They stuck, you failed to contact the city and the clients. You expected us to be morons (I think this what you think of us). You expected us to say, "Golly gee! That so awful workers and their demands! Golly gee! Sure, I'll keep paying for service and not expect to have service rendered! I blame those jerks for wanting to feed their family. Heartless jerks! They should be thinking of *** ****** Ark's 5th home that he will never see! $12million is practically minimal wage!"

So explain to me like I'm 5 on why I or anyone with an IQ higher that the average show size should be cool with this? This deliberate breah of contract or incompetence from management. Where ever he got his degree, he should return it.

I await your answers. Keep in mind failure to answer will mean that I was correct.

Republic services has picked up 1 time in over two weeks. Our contract states 2 trash and 1 recycling pick up per week. They have missed 6 pick *** so far. We have overflowing dumpsters and have had to pay a second company to remove trash outside our restaurant. I have called on 4 separate occasions this month to terminate the contract due to Republics breach for non performance. They refuse to allow me to end the contract or even let me speak to anyone to cancel. They refuse to remove their dumpsters so we can hire a company that actually picks up the trash when they are contractually obligated to.

This company was pretty much awful from the onset. Their driver crashed into a tree and crushed a security camera on one of his very first visits. Then after we paid $25K to have roads put in, he couldn't seem to stay on the roads. Kept driving off the roads rutting up our new graded ground and got mud literally everywhere. When picking up trash, most of it would fly out of the bin and he would just leave it blowing all around the property. The had some goons from their half rate insurance company review my claim for repair and they denied it saying and property damage by their drivers is the responsibility of the home owner. SO they can come on our property, drive recklessly, damage whatever they want on our dime. I repeatedly asked them to fix the damage and stop causing further damage and it fell on deaf ears.

Since the opening of this account, we have consistently operated in accordance with the guidelines outlined in our service agreement. The container we initially placed at this location was positioned in an appropriate area to allow our drivers to service it safely and efficiently. However, it has come to our attention that the customer relocated the container to a new location without our prior authorization. This unauthorized move required our driver to access a private roadway that was not designed or engineered to accommodate the weight of our trucks, which has unfortunately led to the alleged ruts on the roadway. Regarding the reported damage to the tree and camera, we would like to note that these issues were never brought to our attention during any of our site visits or communications with the customer.  We remain committed to working collaboratively with the customer to resolve any concerns and ensure the continued safe and efficient service of their container.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I should not have to pay for those weeks where service is not provided. This should not be something you need to work with the city to resolve. Bottom line, I pay you for a service. If you do not provide that service, I should not be billed for it. This is a violation of the contract.

      Business Response

We understand the frustrations of not receiving service and that customers expect to be credited for the dates of missed service. We do not have an end date to the work stoppage yet and are unable to predict when services will be fully reinstated. Once the situation is resolved we will ensure customer billing concerns are fairly addressed.

      Customer Answer

Republic Services lies to the City claiming all trash bins have been picked up. Our still has not been picked up. I dont know that I can trust them to provide credit for missed pick up. So much for enabling trust in your customers.

Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.

As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
