In 2021 I purchased a garage door and opener from A1. This morning I noticed that the center beam between the ledger board and the motor housing had completely detached from the ledger board, and a 1.5 inch lag bolt was sitting in the driveway.I call because I'd bought a $3,000+ package from them and the guy in the phone waived the service fee and I booked an appointment. Service tech shows up, confirms the issue and admits that the original installation was completed on the builder grade bracket and original lags. Ok, so the math simply doesn't work, the prior door was uninsulated and had super light builder grade springs on it, and a light weight but appropriate motor. This was replaced with a much heavier insulated door, and subsequent heavier springs with greater torque and a heavier motor. So the expectation on this little 1.5 lag will hold up?He took issue with the ledger board (boards fault?), keeping in mind that it also was not reinforced from builder grade by A1 upon install, and quoted me (~$450) to break everything down, replace the board, and put it back together. Or for the low low price of (~$180) he could just put it back together with 4 inch lags. I passed up on both options, and reinforced the board, and sunk the appropriate hardware (the right way, as it should have been done the first time around). Oh, and that waived service fee, I was required to pay it, because they didn't perform repairs (that's pretty much the reason this is getting written). In summary, I'm happy with the hardware that they used, but using builder grade structure to support upgraded hardware and calling it industry standard is terrible and lazy. For 3k, a couple of reinforcements, the same ones recommend today for $180 (mind you, about $10.00 in actual hardware) would have prevented the entire issue. So while I ultimately like/liked the company their business model may be blaming builder grade and bad install to keep you on the hook for future service calls.

Had a broken tension spring and called A1 for a quick repair. What started as a simple spring replacement turned into a $2,000+ ordeal that required financing.Initially quoted three spring options (2yr, 5yr, lifetime warranty) - I chose the middle tier but felt pressured into the expensive "lifetime" option. Once they started working, suddenly I "needed" new centerplate, bearings and bearing plate, and drums for several hundred more. With my door half-apart and needing it functional, I felt trapped into *************'s the kicker: Called 3 other companies the next day. Even DOUBLING their quotes wouldn't reach what A1 charged me. I understand quality varies, but this pricing difference was **************** learned: Always get multiple quotes, especially for "emergency" repairs where you feel pressured to decide quickly.

Zero WARRANTY FOR A LIFE TIME WARRANTY! I used A1 not 2 years ago for a new garage door and coils for our garage. The garage has been "sticking" not closing when prompted or closes them opens after going down half way. We thought it was a sensor issue so we use co.oressed air on the sensors each time. I have literally come home from being gone for hours and my garage door has been open for hours. So I wait until the door closes completely now. I went to close my door today and of course it won't close. I blew off the sensors with air etc. It still won't close. I unhooked the door and lowered it myself to see if the garage door needed reset or something. The metal piece coming from the main motor will only move about 6 inches. So I look to see if a bug or something is on it. Nothing unusual. I wD40 the metal leading to the springs and try again. Still won't move. So I unplug it and plug it back in. Still nothing. So I said it's time to call. So I call the number on the HUGE sticker they left on my garage door. I also have a LIFETIME warranty. I call the number at (*******) and I speak with an operator that wants my zip code to see if they still " do service" in my area. I said I have a lifetime warranty they better. Well sure as s*** they don't service "my area" WHY you ask because they closed the chapter here last month!!! So my LIFETIME warranty is where? So I'm left with a garage door that doesn't work and service I can't even obtain with the lifetime warranty that is no good!!! Oh, and their "customer ********************** complaint number" is a Machine that keeps transferring you to a different automation never to be picked up by a human!!!!

Get a competing bid! My wife called A1 Garage Door Service to fix the spring on our garage door. The service technician was very personable and seemingly very helpful. However, we were charged twice what their competitor, M&M Garage Doors LLC, quoted us for the same service. In addition, A1 Garage Door Service evaluated the remaining parts on our garage door and determined that they were close to failure and all needed to be replaced, which was going to be another $1,000 or so of additional cost. Fortunately, they were willing to roll the cost of all that overpriced service into the price of a whole new door and finance it at 0% interest for 12 months but only if we agreed to purchase the new garage door that day. Thankfully Michigan law requires customers be given a ***** cancellation window. The next day we called M&M Garage Doors LLC and they sent someone out the same day to provide a competing bid. Not only were the remaining parts not failing (only 10 years of ordinary ************ but the price M&M Garage Doors LLC would have charged us for the same, brand new garage door was HALF what A1 Garage Door Service was going to charge. In short, A1 Garage Door Service engaged in high pressure sales tactics and provided wildly overpriced service.

This company is a scam. How they have an A+ rating on BBB is beyond me with 3 star rating. They scam people and are really good at it. Im not knowledgeable about garage doors and my tech definitely took advantage of that. Quoted me 2500 just for a new motor and springs & 4k for a basic, generic door LOL. I got all of the work done, perfectly with everything he told me about, for literally 3k. Under half the price. When I called him out he said youre comparing apples to oranges? Its the same exact product. They arent getting springs made of gold theyre just scamming people & pretending theyre super knowledgeable. ***** this company.

I wish I could give zero stars. Their cancellation policy claims you can cancel within three business days, but they make that nearly impossible. The email address they provided doesn't work, and every time I try to call customer **********************, I'm sent to voicemail with no return call. The only other option they give is to send a physical letterseriously? As if mail would be delivered, opened, and processed within that short window.Because of this, it looks like Im out roughly $1,300. It's incredibly frustrating and feels like a setup. I could write a book about everything Ive been through with this company, but the most disturbing part is how they take advantage of veterans. Thats not just poor businessit's predatory. Avoid at all costs.

Extremely polite and helpful. A little more expensive, but worth it. Would have given 5 stars except there was a little confusion associated with package-deal pricing, which was corrected after some phone calls.

I called for a free estimate for a door and install. He spent 10 minutes and closed the door for us. Then promised if we paid ****** it will be deducted from our installment of door. My mother is naive and paid him. We never received an estimate and they are ignoring our request for estimate.
