Elderly beware! This company has Predatory Practices. On October 26th, 2025 my 92-year-old mother called A1 Garage Door Services because her garage door was not opening. An appointment was scheduled on Monday, October 27th for garage door to be looked at, to diagnose problem. REMOVED. technician arrived and realized the reason the garage door was not functioning is because the sensors were blocked. After he unblocked the sensors the garage door functioned properly. REMOVEDthan took the opportunity to sell my mother a new garage door opener, 2 springs, cable and 2 openers. He said because they were old. (Please see details: Financial Elder Exploitation)-Lift master 8450SR $ REMOVED( A1 Garage door price) Amazon: $ REMOVED-7 ft cable: (A1 garage door price $ REMOVED) Amazon: $ REMOVED-893LM 3 3 button remote ( A1 Garage door price $ REMOVED) Amazon: $ REMOVED-Maxlife Springs red powder coated ( A1 Garage door price $ REMOVED+ $584.23) Amazon: $200-$350 Total bill: $2,786.46 When REMOVEDhad started the work no verbal or written quote was given. My mother told him she cannot see and cannot write a check for work. My mother has advanced Macular Degeneration and is going blind. My mother is also on a fixed income and had to give him her credit card to pay. My sister has tried several attempts to contact A1 Garage Door by phone with these concerns. She has spoken to REMOVEDin customer care and then was passed on to REMOVEDwho is supposed to be a lead on the customer care team. We just get passed on to others and no is ever available or returns calls. I hope we dont have to resort to the media.

I had an appointment with A1 garage to do maintenance on my garage door with the special coupon for $29.95. Technician came out and I reqested that he quote me a price to replace the rubber strip at the bottom of the door. He stated that he sold that last one at his prior appointment. He went to get one but when he returned he realized it was the incorrect size for my door. He had to call to their other locations to get one. I had also requested a quote for a new garage door in order to know what the cost would be when the time came to replace. They do a 29 point safety inspection and of course the garage door was either in the yellow or red failed. In order to get the quote, the technician needed to get measurements and look at the opener. While getting pictures for the quote, the technician did something to the opener where the wall mount unit stopped working. He was unnable to figure out what the issue was. My opener in my car worked and the outside keypad still worked. He rigged up another opener inside the garage to open door from inside. MY BF looked at the opener and found that there was a loose wire and reconnected it and my inside panel now works! The quote was exteme high over 6K but then they throw all these discounts in to that brought it down to about $4300.00. I requested a copy of the quote so that I could read through it in order to understand what the actual cost would be.I then looked at BBB and was surprised to see that they had an A+ rating with the complaints and negative reviews, which I do not understand. I have also gotten texts stating more discounts. I am disappointed that they take advantage of their customers. I did not sign anything with A1 and I am glad I did not. Please be very careful with this company as they do not seem to honor lifetime warranties which are in writing based on the comments I have read.

The spring broke on our garage door, A1 came out and put in a new spring and associated parts, when checking the cost of the parts, the cost came up to $278 and the repair man was here for two hours, assume $150 per hours the bill with tax should have been approximately $650, but was charged $1760. In addition he was trying aggresively to have the door replaced at $10000. In reading the rest of the complaints on the internet, this is standard policy with this company, they can not be trusted.

I would like to leave no stars. A1 Garage Doors are crooks. They prey on people who do not know about garage door parts. Received a coupon in the mail from A1 for a garage door for a "tune up" for $29.95. This is the hook to real in an unsuspecting person into their web of lies. I just wanted an inspection and "tune up". Instead, I was told every part was defective and needed replacing and the original installer did a bad job. They told me the door could come crashing down on me or my vehicle at any moment. Total scare tactic. The 2 installers that came to my house, AKA salesmen were dishonest and deceitful. After they charged me $4,000 for work that didn't need doing with way over priced parts, I came to find out just the springs needed adjusting. From any other company, with full inspection and any other adjustments, $500 max. I would like to know how A1 Garage Doors got an A+ rating from BBB.

My mother who is 69 had a spring snap on her door. She had A1 come to replace the spring. He quoted her $500 plus labor, but she wasnt told it was for each spring. He then came back and told she needed more things done to the door. Everything was working fine expected for the one spring. She was then told it will cost $3000, to replace weather strip, rollers, cables, drums and some other things. Then came back and told her she need a new garage door opener. Opener was very old, but was working before spring snap. He then show her only one option and was told it would be about $500 for the opener, which has so many features that she did not need or would understand how to use. Wi-Fi connected, camera, app, motion sensor light, lcd screen, keypad for outside entry. All she needed was a simple one button option. This LiftMaster 87504-267 model retails between $400 to $500. I found out that she was changed $1,453 for this, which is just crazy. He then told her she would have a free tuneup any time for the first year. I found out the this was not free but a $155.40 1 year membership instead. The service guy also had her sign for multiple approvals on his iPad whenever he found something else wrong. The problem with this was he was outside in the sun and my mother could see the prices of the stuff she was agreeing on. So the total price to have the simple job of replacing two springs ended up costing her $4,384.84. Plus they kept all the original equipment, so I have noway of verifying if any parts were actually broken in the first place. Stay away from this WAY over price company.

In 2021 I purchased a garage door and opener from A1. This morning I noticed that the center beam between the ledger board and the motor housing had completely detached from the ledger board, and a 1.5 inch lag bolt was sitting in the driveway.I call because I'd bought a $3,000+ package from them and the guy in the phone waived the service fee and I booked an appointment. Service tech shows up, confirms the issue and admits that the original installation was completed on the builder grade bracket and original lags. Ok, so the math simply doesn't work, the prior door was uninsulated and had super light builder grade springs on it, and a light weight but appropriate motor. This was replaced with a much heavier insulated door, and subsequent heavier springs with greater torque and a heavier motor. So the expectation on this little 1.5 lag will hold up?He took issue with the ledger board (boards fault?), keeping in mind that it also was not reinforced from builder grade by A1 upon install, and quoted me (~$450) to break everything down, replace the board, and put it back together. Or for the low low price of (~$180) he could just put it back together with 4 inch lags. I passed up on both options, and reinforced the board, and sunk the appropriate hardware (the right way, as it should have been done the first time around). Oh, and that waived service fee, I was required to pay it, because they didn't perform repairs (that's pretty much the reason this is getting written). In summary, I'm happy with the hardware that they used, but using builder grade structure to support upgraded hardware and calling it industry standard is terrible and lazy. For 3k, a couple of reinforcements, the same ones recommend today for $180 (mind you, about $10.00 in actual hardware) would have prevented the entire issue. So while I ultimately like/liked the company their business model may be blaming builder grade and bad install to keep you on the hook for future service calls.
