Business commitment: They were to provide an interlock device installed on my vehicle for the period of 12 months.
Dispute: Since installing this device there have been numerous unexplained issues which have left me stranded with no means to move or get home. This happened at least a dozen times. Issues from the device not connecting to my vehicle, not taking readings, locking me out and forcing me to pull over and turn off my vehicle in dangerous situations on the highway, etc.
On top of all of this, they say they have an, "after hours emergency service." It is nothing more than a message service where they take your information and the "technician" calls you back ONLY on the next business day, NOT the evening or weekend that you have the problem. This has left me stranded far from my home on multiple occasions. The first time it happened, I didn't know this and was left stranded, waiting 3 hours for someone to call me back, when I was supposed to be picking my son up from an activity.
I'm now on this day, waiting for another technician callback, obviously to be tomorrow. I'm tired of this constant inconvenience, usually at the worst possible times. I'm a retired army veteran with numerous mental health issues, the amount of stress this has put on me is very, very substantial. I developed new intense anxieties about driving, on top of the ones that I had before. I refuse to drive my family, and rarely myself, anywhere because of this.
Resolutions: I spoke with the tech support supervisor once about my issues, he refunded me one month for consolation. At this point, I don't want to pay this horrible service another dime.
People make mistakes. This device is embarrassing enough to have on your vehicle, and with it failing all the time, makes this hard time much more difficult. This company needs to drastically improve their service.Business Response

Since its installation on December 21, 2023, I have encountered multiple instances where the equipment has failed, leaving me stranded and unable to start my vehicle. ***** ************ **** *** **** ************** ** *** **** **** ******** ** *********** ********* ****** *** *********** ** ******* On numerous occasions, I have found myself stranded on the side of the road, unable to start my vehicle due to the malfunctioning breathalyzer program. As a result, I have been forced to seek assistance from *** for towing services and contact Alcalock for codes to start my car. The device caused issues from the start. Wires and block are on the floor under my feet (tripping hazard, potential to get under brake peddle) When I asked the installer, I was told it was normal.
Constant 02 reading that I need to call in every two weeks(wait time 2-3 hours depending on how many times you get cut off) when I asked the company on the phone I was told it was an install issue. When I asked the installer I was told it was because I drive a ******. Second time I asked the installer it was because of the service provided by Alcolock
I often get false readings **** ***** ** ** **** **** ** *** *** ***** These readings can lock me out for 5 min then allow me to drive right away. Alcolock Ontario and Prince Edward island
I moved from Ontario to prince Edward island of February of last year and got the Ontario device removed from my car and the prince Edward island device put in, yes different device and you would guess it, the Ontario one is more advanced then the prince Edward island one. Lots of issues with the pei alcolock, with lock outs and alarms *** *** ******* **** ***** ******** ** **** **** ** **** ****** ** ** *********** ******** ******** ** ********* The device I have been told and we have experienced first hand is soy based wiring. Our car was than infested by rodents, sitting in our drive due to the soy based wires and a tow and a wiring job was done at a local garage for 1200 dollars. The vehicle ran until February 8th 2024, in which an uninstall was done due to completion of program. Car would not run after uninstall. Technician than pushed the car out of his garage put key in gas cap, washed his hands of situation. Had it towed to the dealership. 2200 dollars later and 14 hours of labourer car is fixed due to rodents and wiring soy based issues. Filed a complaint with Alcolock head office waiting to hear back. Worried there will be no retribution

I had used Alcolock services because it was mandated by court. They have not refunded the deposit. I have emailed and tried to contact them with no result.
On the last day of the service, after they have uninstalled the device they were supposed to refund my funds. That was on Dec 29th.
With no responces from them, i am inclined to believe they do not intend to refund the funds.

I had to have my truck serviced at a dealership on March 16, 2023. They called to have the interlock deactivated. The day after I picked up my truck the interlock alarm started going off intermittently and did so for the following 4 days and nights. Each time it did I called Alcolock, and usually had to call twice before speaking to a technician. Twice I had to disconnect the truck's battery to silence the alarm overnight. Neighbors complained. The handheld unit constantly told me I had a retest available or had missed a retest, even though I hadn't been able to start the vehicle. This happened even when the hand held unit had been powered down. Finally, it locked me out and I had to call to have that resolved. On at least two occasions I told the service technician that there was an immediate recall but was told both that I shouldn't worry about it or that was taken care of. That was not the case.
Alcolock is ********* difficult to contact, *** *********** **** ** ** **** ****** ******** *** ***** ******* ** ******* -- it would not allow me to email them. Alcolock does not call you back when you leave voicemail requesting this, even thought they have this as an option. Alcolock charges a high monthly fee for their service *** **** ******* ********** ******** *******. Avoid them if you can -- there are alternatives.Initial Complaint

Company is contracted by the government to provide court ordered breathalyzer services, yet you can never get a hold of them whenever you get a recall alert. They charge you $95 for missing a test, yet nothing when I failed a test due to using mouthwash. The people who installed my device also damaged/ ******* ** the wiring in my vehicle, to the point that my dashboard lights no longer work, and the computer wasn't communicating with the engine properly, causing it to act as though my catalytic converter was faulty. My "home" shop is located in Barrie, but no one ever answers the phone (and there is no answering machine), and no one is on site when I visit the shop. I was charged $64 for a reset on the device because I received a failed test for using windshield wash. This has happened twice in the last 2-3 weeks. The first time was free but I will be charged $64 for each time in the future. I live in NL and you cannot go 5 minutes without using windshield wash in the winter. **** ******* ** **** **** *** ******** *** **********. I am writing the email today to request a refund of two separate bills.
The first bill is a tow totalling - 118.65
The second bill is for service charges- 425.63.
The total reimbursement requested is 544.28.
The reason for the request of this reimbursement ****** from the improper removal of the breathalyzer device.
On or around the 1st of May it was observed that my vehicle, 2014 **** ********, would have a delayed start. At times it would take onwards of 1 minute after turning the key to turn on. Sometimes I would take 2-3 turnover of the key. On June 22, 2022 my vehicle would not start at all. At this point I had to get a tow to a dealership to get it serviced. *** ******* *** *** *** ** ******** ** ** *****. When the dealership contacted me to inform me my vehicle was fixed they informed me that the issue was an electrical problem. The mechanic stated that there was a device that was improperly removed *** *** ***** **** *** *** *******. **** ******** ** *** **** ** ***** ******** ** * ****** ******** ** ******* *** ***** *** * ****** ****** The only device added was the breathalyzer. ***** ******** **** ************ * ********* **** *** ***** ***** **** * Alcolock mechanic not proper removing the device.
After filling a complaint directly with the company they informed me they would need to conduct a investigation. Roughly 2-3 weeks later I finally am able to make second contact and they inform me my complain is void. I questioned how they came to this conclusion when I receipt clearly states that issues stem from devices such as a remote car started being removed. They indicated they would have to contact the mechanic who fixed my vehicle. I stayed that this is what was suppose to be completed during the 2-3 weeks they were conducting a investigation in the first place. The supervisor assured me they'd contact me later that week. It has been 2 weeks and nothing I've left 2 messages. They are now in avoidance.Business Response

Removal of the ignition interlock device was completed on December 2021, no issues were detected after this was completed until several months after. Dealership reported a loose cable at battery and replaced broken negative terminal explaining the intermittent issues with starting the vehicle. This is unrelated to the install or removal of the device and can be attributed to wear and tear as age and corrosion will be a factor on a 2014 vehicle. ALCOLOCK is a government contractor and cannot provide any further information

I appreciate the time the company toook to respond. Unfortunately, they must not have read the reciept from the certified mechanic that clearly stated the issue *** **** *** ******* ** * ****** ***** *** * *** ******** As confirmed with Alcolock representative themselves, breathalyzers and car starters are essentially installed and removed close to the same way. The issue with the vehicle starting was NOT the loose (loose not broken) negative battery terminal it was the ********** ** *** wires when your Mechanic incorrectly removed my device.
