Customer Reviews Summary
|Apr. 16, 2014||I had Stanek Windows install a patio door 3 years ago and was satisfied with the window and their work. Our front picture window broke so I contacted Stanek to give us an estimate. Stanek windows was bought out by Great Day improvements. The sales person told me the quality was similar and we decided to give them a try . We put money down in December with the agreement that they would do a Spring install when it warms up. They called me at least once a week starting in January to set up installation when it was below zero! I kept telling them not to call me until it was around 50 degrees. Very annoying. Finally the weather cooperated and we called them set up a date and time. I was told it would take 3 to 4 hours. I got off of work early. They were supposed to arrive around 10:30 am. They didn't show up until after noon. One of the guys told me something like, it was hard to adjust to daylight savings. Really? 2 guys got started. One of the guys wasn't very friendly. They didn't cover the carpet by the entry and got drywall and crap all over it. I ask him if he could put some plastic down and he just looked at me, rolled up my rug and put it in the corner and continued to muck up my wood floor. I couldn't believe it. After the window was set in place, one of the guys left and the other worked on it solo. It took him over 7 hours! He didn't even finish and said he would have to come back to finish. They over tightened the window (could see clips on the outside and bowed in spots), bad caulking, set old windows on my bushes and broke them, the screens were two different sizes and not square, big gaps on the inside of vinyl on the trim.We hired a PROFESSIONAL(beware, they contract out for the installation) to do this so we would have a warranty on such a big window. I hope I never have to use it but time will tell. After all that, the service manager came out immediately the next day and did go over all of the problems and concerns we had. He assured us they would be fixed everything to our satisfaction and they would make us new screens. They did send out the service tech who talked down a little to me (really irritated me)! My husband was there as well and we both thought he was cocky and acted like we were being too picky and that the window performance would be the same either way. We told him the aesthetics on the inside wood grain vinyl was not acceptable. There were inconsistent gaps around the whole window. The service tech even made a comment about the patio window we had Stanek install about 3 years ago, are you sure we can't find something wrong with your other patio window as long as I am here, ha ha ha. What a jerk! All in all, he did say he would try to make some adjustments to make it look better but vinyl windows have some natural warping(something like that). He was able to make adjustments to the bowing and crookedness of the window ( with my husbands help). He did correct the mistakes and we got our new screens in a timely manner. In the end, we were satisfied with the corrections and promptness of Great day to resolve the problems. |

|Mar. 14, 2014||As a contractor I would look at local company, before hiring this company
I would beware of the Subcontractors that Great Day Improvements, LLC brings to your site. Or I would beware of becoming one of the Subcontractors for Great Day improvements.
Monroe NC, I would beware of the Sales Rep. *************, he will come to you to do a project, have you do the work and after doing the work he will later tell you of all the paperwork that needs to be filled out as well as the different insurances you need or not get paid. We did over $5000 dollars worth of work then he tells me that I need all of these different things. So beware of doing business, it could cost you.
On May 5, 2013. ************* of Great Day improvements asked me to visit a Screen Room they where contracted to build. I visit the site with him and met with the homeowners.
A few weeks later I told ************* that we were unable to do the project do to because we were so busy and behind due to the weather. He said he could hire another company to do the project. (June 16, 2013)
On July 12, 2013 Mr ************* called me telling me that he had went out of town on vacation and came back to the homeowners site to find that the project was a wreck and that the homeowners had kicked the subcontractors off the project due to the lack of skills. He asked me if I could go back and look at the project and make the owners feel that we could fix the project. I was headed out of town that weekend so I went by Sunday after getting back. I view the Project and spoke to the owners.
When I view the project it was a wreck, The yard was filled with old dirt from the footer being dug out, Irrigation pipe all over the yard. It was a mess. When I went to see the footer it was over 4 feet deep with no yellow caution tap around it to help keep people from walking into this major footer. Please note that a footer in this area should only be 18-24 inches deep. This subcontractor didnt know what he was doing.
I spoke to the homeowner and his face had a smile on it when he saw it was me. He said ***** we have a big mess. I told him that we could fix it but it will take a little extra time. He had tears coming from his eyes telling me how hurt he was from how the subs for Great Day Improvements did him. I told him that I would come by the first of the week to clean up the mess so we can start getting it started. He was supper happy.
On July 16, 2013 I spoke with ************* regarding the project. I told him that it was a mess and that it was a project that needed to be done ASAP. However my company was already busy and had money only on other projects. I told him that it would help if he would pick up all of the materials and rentals needed to get the project done. Mr. ************* said that he could rent anything needed to get the project done, either I could pick it up or he could have it hauled to me.
This project took a lot more time and took a lot of extra money due to how poor it was done from the start.
We had to redo and repair everything this other Sub-contractor did.
We had to remove over 16 tons of soil and rocks off yard
We had to pump hundreds of gallons of water out of the footer, because it had sit for weeks.
We had to re-dig the footer even deep to make it pass inspection.
We had to install over 15 yards of cement to make the footer pass
We had to redo all of the back yard and front irrigations system because it was ripped up and not put together right
We had to re-level the back yard
We had to install new fescue sod in the back yard.
The subcontractor even hit a tree in the yard. Not sure how he did that.
Once we finished the Foundation we install all the brick work. The brick work that my staff and I did made the project look like it was never added on. Perfect match in bricks and perfect color mortor.
The owners loved our work and said how great it looked. Even people walking by said how great it looked.
The owners had us do extra work around the house.
We install a walkway around to the driveway
We installed an outdoor Grill
We also did all new landscaping
After we finished all of the work, we installed a sign on the property. The staff of Great Day Improvements took the sign down, so we spoke to the owners and put a sign in there window so they couldnt take it down. We had over 15 people stopped and asked us to do work for them. One day a walker stopped and wanted a walkway done and one of my staff went to talk with them and the Staff of Great Day Improvements took our info from the walker and gave him one of ************* business cards. The staff of Great Day was taking the credit for a walkway they were never hired to do, they were taking down the signs we installed. They were telling people that they installed the brick work. I have a few dozen pictures to show that Great Day Improvements never installed the brick work.
After the finial walk throw of the project with ************* I sent Great Day Improvements my invoices for the work done.
A few weeks later I get a call from ***, the ** of the Charlotte area. He said that we needed to go over the rental invoices that they had gotten. My understand during this call that it was part of the agreement that Great Day Improvements would pay all materials and rental. So I met with *** and *************. There was around $2,800 dollars worth of rental invoices that was in question. I told them that if I was to be charged for those invoices then we had to raise our prices to making it fair. They still took $900 dollars out of my invoice and payment. So now those invoices were paid with our money. We fill that since they made us pay for the invoices then we should have the right to use them as tax write off's. I never got an answer from the Charlotte location so I called the head office and spoke with *************** regarding this because I couldnt get an answer from Charlotte. She sent me an email and said that the invoices were paid throw Great Day Improvements LLC and that we didnt have the rights to these invoices.
However Great Day Improvements took over $2,800 dollars out of my invoices and checks to cover this amount. So they charged me and got the money back and then turn those same invoices in on there taxes. So they double dipped in write off's.
The best thing out of this project was to hear from *** and ***** say that they believe without my help the project would of never looked as nice and they felt that if we didnt fix it then they could of faced a large law suit from the owners. For someone to say that then question a rental invoice is kinda crazy.
I believe to this day Great Day Improvements owns my company every penny they took out of my invoices for rental. I would like to see a Check for $2,800 dollars or all the invoices written to my company. Or a letter stating that you took this amount out of our invoices to cover cost. I would also like to see if they did turn in these invoices in there taxes.
So please beware of this company and they way they do business, I understand some companies have problems but this was a major problem.
Great Day Improvements contracted with *************** to do work. The work was performed; but*************** charged equipment rentals to the Great Day Improvements rental account. Those rentals should have been paid by ***************.
We have already supplied*************** with all the rental charges he made on our account. They are requesting them again per this business review. We consider this matter closed unless*************** can show proof that they actually paid the charges they fraudulently placed on our account.
