2 starsI've been loyal to Healthy Paws for years. I signed up the moment I adopted my dog as a puppy and stuck by with each monthly premium increase. Even when others around me told me that my money would be better spent putting it into a high yield savings or something of the like and then using that to pay off vet fees, I stayed true (call it sunk cost fallacy?). But this latest proposal from $270 to $800 a month is a step too far. I can try to be kind and understand that older dogs are more likely to require more expensive care...but then what about those thousands of dollars I paid prior? I am naive, for sure, to think that would count for something. It doesn't. So, my advice to those looking into pet insurance your money is better kept elsewhere. If I had put all that money into a high yield savings account, I certainly would've come out on top financially even with all the claims that I've filed over the years. Speaking of, that was part of the reason why I stuck around. But most recently, Healthy Paws marked something that their policy says they cover (bloodwork) as "preventative" and now I'm in this month-long appeals process to try to remedy their mistake. It's unfortunate that this is how it ends, but if I can save one person from going down this road...Healthy Paws

1 starWARNING! Be prepared for steep jumps in premiums as your pet ages & has more health care needs. We are long-time customers of ******************** & just got notice our premium is going to jump from $146.71 to $1,210.83 a month. Thats an increase of 725%. Assuming this unbelievable jump in cost had to be a mistake, we contacted Healthy Paws & this was their response:In the face of steeply rising costs and other veterinary industry developments in **, after careful consideration, Healthy Paws will be replacing your current pet health insurance coverage...Even though vet prices may be increasing, that does not justify a 725% increase in premiums. We believe our aging dog, who had cancer surgery this past year, is no longer profitable enough for Healthy Paws. This appears to be a pet insurance company that pushes out dogs as they age & need more frequent vet care. It looks like their focus on profits outweighs their compassion for ************ owners.Healthy Paws

1 starIve had this insurance for 5 years. Premium hikes are ridiculous. Filed 3 small claims in that time frame. Last claim was submitted almost 2 months ago and its still in process. Zero response from them despite multiple emails. Only response I received was that they are busy working on things and hope to be in touch soon. Zero response there after. After 4 weeks I was finally put in touch with an account manager on 6/14 who was helpful and determined they needed more records. Took 4 weeks and me calling them to give me that info. I also dont understand why the needed more records as all the records were process with previous claims. Was told that she would push the claim to be processed immediately. 2.5 weeks later the claim is still under review. I called and was put on hold for 30 minutes until another account manager said she would help me. Put me back on hold for 10 minutes only for her to hang up on me. She took my number at the start of the convo saying in case we get disconnected and made no attempt to call me back. So I call back and get someone who cant help me and put me BACK on hold and currently 22 minutes waiting and its the same f***ing song over and over again. I swear they do this on purpose so people will hang up. Well I just lost my job and I have all the free time in the world. Buckle up. Buyer beware. Go with Trupanion.Review fromRaquel S

1 starIf I could give zero stars, I would. Healthy Paws is the absolute worst pet insurance company and Im begging anyone considering them to RUN the other way.Ive been with them for years, and its been a steady downhill spiral. They deny claims for things that absolutely should be covered, and make you jump through hoops for everything else. And when they do reimburse, its always less than expected.Every single year, without fail, they raise my premium by 4050%. Not due to any claims or new conditionsjust because they can. When I asked for an explanation, I got vague answers about rising veterinary costs and no real ******************, theyve added a payment processing feeyes, a fee for paying your bill. They claim its to help cover the costs of their new payment system. Excuse me? You want your customers to pay you more money because you chose a more expensive payment vendor? Thats absurd. The only reason I havent left is because my dog is older now and has preexisting conditions. Theyve got me locked in because they know it would be nearly impossible to get coverage elsewhere. Its exploitative.I signed up with Healthy Paws when I was 20 and didnt know any better. I thought I was doing the responsible thing for my dog. But if I could go back, ** choose literally any other provider. This company does not care about your petjust your ********** yourself the stress, anger, and financial drain. Do. Not. Use. *********************** directly to healthy paws:- no one wants to call you to discuss premiums. Raising a deductible or lower the coverage percentage is not helpful, its only more money into the hands of healthy paws. I sincerely hope you go out of business for your despicable and dishonest business tactics. You should all be ashamed of yourselves! Why not put some of these reviews on your website instead of the fake 5 star reviews you currently have reflected on there.Healthy Paws

We realize no one likes any form of premium increase and appreciate you reaching out to our customer care team. Per your request, our team has provided detailed information regarding the calculation of your premium.
Payment service fees are a common practice across many industries to help cover the costs associated with digital processing. The fee only applies to credit or debit card transactions. We recognize that processing fees may be seen as an inconvenience, which is why we are pleased to offer, as an alternative, payment by direct bank transfer (ACH). If you set up payment by direct bank transfer (***), the fee will not apply

1 starI was informed that my dog's insurance monthly premium will be increased from $150 to $430 in July, it's crazy.! we have been with healthy paws for more than 10 years, and the monthly premium was increased from $40 to $150, that's still reasonable I would like to say, but $430 a month? I just checked that I have not submitted any claims for the last nearly 5 years! I cancelled the insurance. I felt they did this on ********** force you to leave since the pet is getting older. be careful, save the money yourself, dont trust the healthy paws insurance.Review fromalana v

1 starmy current premium is going up from $208 to $530 in *one* single increase. and this isn't even as bad as some others im reading about. Healthy Paws claims they never raise prices based on age, # of claims, etc. this is 100% unethical. they are trying to get people to cancel their plans. but, dear health paws, please explain - if everyone cancels their policies, won't you go out of business?Healthy Paws

2 starsAfter 12 years and the usual yearly increases rom what began as 58 a month to what was 478 a month, now I am informed the new rate in...1280 a month. Fired Chubb bought Healthy Paws in 2024 after being their sole underwriter for many years and immediately they set about killing the business platform completely. Hhhmmm seems typical of the insurance giants... see a functioning small business, buy em up then kill em off. Just like esurance. obviously, keeping our money in our own pockets and just paying cash is the only voice we have. They know we are trapped when a dog is older than anyone will write a new policy for so the force us to quit having coverage before they experience age related claims. thanks *****Review fromAmanda C

1 starBeware! I have been paying into healthy paws for almost 2 years. I submitted a small claim, and they are asking for additional medical history. I have sent the medical history 7x and my vet also sent the history. I call healthy paws weekly and every single time they tell me they havent received any information other than the initial claim support. Ive been given multiple email addresses, referred to the technology department, and even told the fax number is not a reliable source. Ive come to the conclusion that they have no intention of approving my claim and I am canceling my insurance.Healthy Paws
