My concern is regarding DJO Globals contractual practice regarding healthcare services and the relationship it has with insurance companies and the medical provider. DJO Global submitted a claim for a L3934 Cool Comfort thumb restraint at a cost of $103 to my insurance. I am responsible for the remainder which is $69. The product in question is available on Amazon for $30 which is a significantly lower price than the amount that DJO Global charges insurance. How can a company justify a 200% markup of a product! I understand that pricing can vary across different platforms and regions. However, the difference in this case is substantial enough to raise concerns about potential price gouging. I believe the insurance company paid out what was fair and reasonable. The remainder requested for payment is worth two additional products from Amazon. I believe it was important to bring this to DJOs attention to ensure fairness and transparency in their claim processing. I have been given the standard response that I signed an agreement, and they are following the contract. I call FOUL! They also claim that I received a professional fitting. It was deemed medically necessary from the prescribing physician to order the brace. I received a professional assessment that took 40 minutes. The physician has been paid in full for his professional service. Conversely, the fitting process did not involve any specialized measurements or adjustments, its reasonable to question whether it qualifies as a professional fitting. Does DJO believe that trying on two different size braces qualifies as a professional fitting? No measurements were taken, and the sizing encompasses a small, medium, or large. Do your research and find the product on your own. This seems to be standard practice for DJO Global as one reviews the numerous complaints and accusations of poor business practices by this company.DJO Global Response

Worst experience ever that I had no control overmy insurance referred me to a podiatrist that purchased the boot for my foot. In turn I received a bill from djo for services dated Jan 31 2024 in February. My insurance had not paid so its not expected for anyone to pay in full and then later get reimbursed. My insurance paid their small portion and I received the new bill in March 2024the person pay website didnt work, nor the scan code on the billI tried several times and days, then eventually it worked and I paid the balance on April 7 with my credit card and received an email confirmation. So to my surprise I received a letters from a collection agency saying I owed a debt! I have immaculate credit and if this messes up my credit they will hear from me directly. The debt collector left a voicemail on my work phone on April 19, which is straight harassment because the bill is paid and was paid before I received the collection letter. Who sends someone to collections before their insurance pays and when their own website is down?? I thought it was a scam without a working website! Something needs to be done and no insurance should use this vendor. They are horrible and I feel so this intentionally. Shame and I will make sure my insurance knows and I will never purchase anything else from this sham company. This is fraudulent business practice. If I had known this would be my outcome I wouldve never paid the bill since I get harassed like I didnt. How dare you call me at work when you already have full payment weeks ago?? Check your records and get your business in order including your website instead of harassing people! You shouldnt be allowed to do business this wayunprofessional and unethical.Review from Stephen E

They tried to bill me in addition to my Tricare policy. No human answers the phone, bots respond to chats and they continue to harass me with billing for a the uncomfortable sling they provided. I won't use or recommend them for their lack of customer service and their over-priced, uncomfortable slings they provided.Review from Allison P

I received crutches at urgent care on January 30. After everything was submitted to insurance, I received a bill in the mail with my portion due, which I paid on March 12. A collections agency sent a letter trying to collect on this "debt" on April 1. DJO Global is obviously a sham company if they are selling information to debt collectors after a single bill was sent out (and without even caring if the bill had already been paid). Medical facilities should not source their medical equipment from this company.Review from Fady H.

Same thing happened to my wife. She had her cast removed off her wrist and she signed some paperwork and they gave her a universal fit wrist brace that costs $15 online. After this they said insurance wouldnt cover it and we owe $71. I have no problem paying a little markup for the service, but 4.7X is just robbery. Especially that this a a universal fit product. When a product is cheap enough, they should offer a purchase price on the spot. What they are doing is this just theft!Review from Kristin G

I had the EXACT experience of ************** my calf muscle, went to urgent care and got a walking boot. Yes you sign the form that you will pay what your insurance does not cover but why would anyone think you would be paying a 400% markup of a product. If this is the case someone needs to warn you of this. You are signing the *** form saying you'll pay what your insurance does not cover. AT LEAST inform customers what this COULD cost you. You know what the contracted price "range" of this product is so *********** a form for your devices and include it in the paperwork that the patient signs. Otherwise, you are not being transparent and patients are signing a form when they aren't fully informed of the potential cost. Had I known this plastic boot would be marked up to $335.00 I would have dragged my body back to the car and purchased the exact same product for 75 dollars on Amazon. I received a bill for ****** after my insurance covered a whopping $11.51 after I met met my DME deductible. Btw, DME stands for Durable Medical Equipment. Now I know what that means on the front of my insurance card in small print. Yes we need to be informed of our insurance plan but this is totally an opportunity for this company and the medical provider to rip people off!!! I work in a hospital in Preop and discharge and will forever encourage patients NOT TO BUY FROM *** through a doctor ************* care if they can avoid it. Ridiculous......DJO Global Response

Almost same thing happened to me compared to other patients. I tore my Achilles on 10/06/23. After wearing a splint, I was given a walking boot that I needed in order to walk and I did not have an opportunity to shop around in the condition I was in. I was told that the boot was coming from a third party, and signed for it accordingly. I was told there may be an additional charges outside of what insurance would pay, however, I was not given a price. I understood there was a 14 day refund policy, however, I was not made aware of the price of the boot, until I received an invoice from DJO. I did not expect that the charge for the exact boot that was on Amazon, would be 450% higher priced. I understand that a reasonable mark-up can be expected, however, I was billed for $335.04 from DJO. The exact product is on Amazon and other websites for $73.15. this is really taking advantage of my misfortune, and the invoice should be modified significantly. This is a scam since you are at the mercy of the doctors diagnosis and nothing is given telling you to BYOD (device) or youll be up charged over 300%. Its a weird a partnership, the third party and the doctors.Review from Angela m

I wish I would have looked here before I ever accepted the brace from my doctor's ******* Not only is the brace low quality and not at all useful, dealing with the billing department is awful. I complained about the item but said I would pay because I didn't want it to affect my or my daughter's credit. The lady just kept arguing that I received the product so I had to pay. I told her I was trying and had tried previously and she just kept arguing. Was obviously not listening to me at all. I spoke to a gentleman at DJO who said I had already been sent to collections. HE then transferred me to the collections company ...........Who had no record of me being sent there. Subpar equipment and no sence of customer service.Review from Deens R

Terrible company. My husband had a knee injury and was told he needed a special brace. Djo sent the device and it did not fit. It was too big. The doctor was unable to adjust. Was basically told oh well. ****** dollars later we were sending 50 to 100 a month and they turned us over to collections. We paid it off but threw away 900 dollars .You can buy the exact same brace online for ******
