I have a mortgage with Oriental Bank. *********** sends by mail the monthly payment at the end of the prior month to the bank address ************ Box in ************) which is the same address they have been receiving my payments for years. On 10/11/24 the *********** returned the payment to me, stating "not deliverable as addressed". I made a credit card payment on 11/29/24 when I became aware the payment was returned. They are charging me a late fee ($175.52) and have reported me as delinquent for late payments to ************************** I called Oriental and asked to have the late fee waived since the *********** returned the payment check (complaint No. S2306259). I have the unopen returned envelope. They refused to waive the late fee. I now want to prepay the mortgage and submitted electronically the closing requested amount. They are now charging an additional $122.39 with no explanation. They have a poor customer service system that instructs the client to file a complaint electronically. Every time I call, I am unable to speak with a customer service representative that will resolve my issues. I want them to return my late fee if the collected on the closing payout amount and inform the ************************* that the late payment was not my fault and to remove it. I also need to understand why I need to pay a $122.39 fee. I am enclosing a photo of the returned unopen payment envelope from ******************.Initial Complaint

On Nov 6, 2024 I was at the Oriental Bank located in ************************************************ Tel: ************. I was opening a Libre Account which I want to use for making payments using ATH ****** After getting all the paperwork completed, the Bank ****************** asked me to go to the Outside *** to deposit money for the account. In front of her I deposited $260.00 which the *** took but it display an error. She tald me there was no problem and she will resolve the issue inside the bank. After waiting a few hours, she cam back with a Request number C-425738 and told me I needed to wait until the Tuesday Nov 12, 2024 for the *** Reconciliation Cycle to fix the issue and post the money to my account. I call today wednesday Nov ******* and they say the internal department will credit the money back to my account when the look at it. They send me to the Oriental Bank Portal (****************************************************) which indicates the issue will be resolve approx. Oriental Bank,I am writing to bring to your attention a concerning issue regarding racial profiling in the home lending process. Upon reviewing my loan contract, I discovered that the race box was preselected with an inappropriate race designation. This discovery has raised serious concerns about the integrity and fairness of the lending process at Oriental Bank.The preselection of an incorrect race designation on my loan contract is a clear example of racial profiling, which is not only unethical but also illegal. As a customer, I should have the right to self-identify my race without any form of preselection or influence from the lending institution.Furthermore, I would like to address the negligence displayed by Oriental Bank in closing my loan since 2022. The delays and lack of progress in finalizing my loan have caused significant frustration and inconvenience, and I believe that this prolonged process may be attributed to the mishandling and lack of attention to detail on the part of Oriental Bank.I urge Oriental Bank to conduct a thorough review of its practices and policies regarding racial profiling in the lending process and take immediate steps to rectify this issue. Oriental Bank failed to adequately investigate disputes about the furnished information reported to it by consumer reporting agencies (***s), as required under the ***** 15 U.S.C. 1681s-2(b). I review my consumer reports and found that the balance on my account its wrong and that I have last payment wish I have never been late . I'm my mothers caretaker and executor of her durable power of attorney (dated September 21, 2023). since. My mother, ************************************, is 85 years old, her physical/medical needs are increasing, and she cant travel any longer. Because of this, she requested the cancellation of a CD (00214680027-1) she has with Oriental Bank, San *****************************. First, despite the power of attorney the bank wanted her to do most of the proceedings which is very overwhelming for her. Most of the time I initiated the calls while she remained close to verify her will and to answer questions. We called countless times to the San *****************************, and every time the calls got immediately transferred to the headquarters in Hato Rey. No matter how many times we clarified that we called the branch, and the switchboard sent the call to the central office, we still get the reply that we need to CONTACT or VISIT the branch directly. Again, we live in ******************** ***** miles away from the branch! Finally, one representative sent us the form for the cancellation and told us what to do to cancel the CD: to send an email to ****************************** with the transaction number I-******* as subject with the filled cancellation form, a letter explaining the reason for the cancellation, and copy of a photo-ID. He further explained that since, our bank accounts are all in ********** the amount of the CD could not be wired transfer or deposit directly to any account. Instead, a check for the CD value will be send to our postal address within 5 to 10 business days of the expiration date. The expiration date was November 5, we sent all documents by October 26 and even got confirmation that the documents were received. In other words, we fulfilled all the requests on time! To our surprised and utter indignation, instead of a check she got a notification that her CD was RENEWED!!! As we did before, the phone calls ensued, to DEMAND her check. As a dejavu, we got the same issue with the calls being transferred to the central office, the same reply that we need to VISIT the branch. Additionally, that they couldn't find any documentation of related to our concern and that a representative of the branch will call us within 48 hours, which never did. Problems with Oriental Bank 280 ************************* Hato Rey, ** ***** P.O. Box ****** ************ ** 00936-3368 ************** Went back in April 2023 to the Oriental bank in *********** to make a payment of $500 on my mortgage loan principal but was never processed. They said it was do to my bankruptcy. So a month later I canceled the payment, they ask me for a letter stating that I canceled the payment in order for them to return my $500 in a check through the mail. Now we are in July and I have contacted the bank several times through their email and they keep extending the time and my money is not being processed for return. Its ridiculous to have to wait for your money to be return since they could not processed the payment, but if it was the other way around I would have have to pay interest. They should have to pay interest on your money also since they been holding my money for three months and I cant wait any longer, Im a disable veteran with other needs so I really need my money back. They keep creating new case number so they can take longer to return / refund my money. I have not consent to use my money as a regular payment on the mortgage loan.
