We purchased a full set of windows from the company with a lifelong warranty on the product. We've had multiple window handles come undone, rendering the window unable to open or close until fixed. The company has offered a bead to self-fix the issue. More significantly, we had a window crack from one end to the other, without cause, no precipitating factor. Our prior windows had no issues like the ones were experiencing and they were in the home far longer. Please help us remedy this by getting this glass repaired. it is a significant cost burden for us and is an issue with their product workmanship.Business Response

Hello,
At this time, our warranty does not cover glass breakage. Please find notes from our service team below:
Regarding the cracked insulated glass, while our lifetime warranty does cover many aspects of the window systemincluding insulated glass unitsit does not typically extend to glass breakage unless it results from a manufacturers defect. If this crack would have been within the first year of manufacture we would have gladly replaced this glass. Unfortunately this was not the case and at this time we do not offer Sunrise Windows any chargeable parts.Initial Complaint

I ordered a transom window. It has been replaced twice thus far. There was a thick line defect through each of the transom windows. Here I wait now to hear from the company as to when the 3rd transom window will arrive. This was ordered back in February 2025. I have tried calling MI Windows/Sunrise Windows several times. I got no where. I don't have an order number as the installer won't provide me with the order number.Business Response

On September 27, ************************************************* the master bedroom had cracked and a faint water line leading from the bottom left hand corner of the MI Window 3500 window to the floor trim. After hiring a leak detection company to come out to assess my house in March 2025, they determined the leak was from the window with thermal imaging. On April 9, 2025, I called the customer service number for MI ********************** to report the manufacturer defect and seek to have the window fixed or replaced under their stated 10 year new build warranty. After my phone call, I emailed them a copy of the leak report and interior and exterior pictures as we had discussed. On April 18, 2025, I received an email from customer care listing six different reasons the leak could have happened. Now, this house is barely 2 years old and I've had many professional roofers, insurance inspectors and leak detection services come to inspect it. They all determined the leak is from the window. The weep holes are clear. When I replied to that email stating that those reasons are just excuses to not honor the warranty, they misread my leak report (in which two separate leaks on two opposite ends of the house were inspected, one of which was a roof leak in the back of the house and one was this window leak in the diagonal opposite front end of the house). The reply I received from them twisted the leak report finding to say this leak was caused by driving rain and an " act of God" as the report details regarding the roof leak. That is impossible as I the leaks are as far apart as possible. And none of my other 10 windows in my house, including one placed 3 inches to right of the defective one, have this issue. Which is why I am confident it's a defective unit. This company is trying to deflect and explain away poor quality control and default on their 10 year warranty posted on their website.Business Response

I bought a brand new home March 2020. Within the 1st year there was rain coming in the house from 1 particular spot near a window this has been an ongoing problem from 2020-present. The house was assessed by the contractor from the roof to the siding numerous amounts of times. They were unable to confirm where the problem was originating from. Finally, in September ************************************************************************************* Window had installed the window but many attempts, pictures, and videos were emailed to them as per their requests but they arent responding to my growing concerns. This window has 10 years guarantee, so at this time I would like to file a formal complaint, please advise.Business Response

Bedroom windows were installed 2019. I am original owner. The windows are very drafty. The wind blows through the windows causing the shade to fan out. I have contacted customer service and their answer was the ********************** are for light. They referred me to the four page warranty. I also submitted pictures of condensation on the windows. The condensation runs down the inside of the windows and the outside. The inside wood shelf under the window catches puddles of water that I constantly have to wipe up. MI refuses to accept responsibility. I requested a tech come out and look at the windows. I was basically cut short. It appears customer service has an obligation not to honor the warrant.Business Response

Complaint: 22859942
I am rejecting this response because: The bedroom windows continue to be covered in water each morning that drips down onto the ledge. The rest of my windows do not do this. Eventually the wood will rot below the windows. The tech sealed around the windows but that is not the problem. The three bedroom windows need to be replaced under the warranty. The house is only 4 years old.

The construction of our house at ********************************** was completed in February ********************************* Windows. The windows have aluminum frames painted brown. Over time, we've noticed that the window frames are exhibiting blistering and peeling, which according to MI is covered by their Modified Coverages warranty within our time frame. It states:"Laminated and painted frames: 10 years for peeling, blistering, or excessive ultraviolet discoloration." We contacted MI (case number is ********), and via their email ********************** provided pictures of the issue. In summary, their response was: "MIWD has determined that based on the information provided, there is no evidence of manufactural defect with the product. Rather, there is clear evidence of corrosion. Per the MODIFIED COVERAGES section of the attached warranty, corrosion is only covered under the warranty for 2 years". In summary, we responded that the corrosion is occurring where the paint has already peeled/blistered off. Without the paint, the metal under it may corrode as we would expect. This is clearly a defect in manufacturing. Either the windows were improperly primed and or painted, causing the paint to peel/blister with weathering over time. To give a better perspective of the issue, we asked that they send a representative to our house to see the issue in person, and they have not responded to our last email. Attached to this complaint is a picture of one of our windows showing the issue that is occurring on many of our windows along with the MI warranty.Business Response

Hi *****,
Another update. As of this morning (12/2), I have not been contacted by the business at either my email ******************** or phone *************) to take next steps in resolving the issue.
As I mentioned, we reached out to a professional painting company to evaluate the issue and provide an estimate to correct it. I have attempted to attach the per window estimate ($200) from the painting company.
The painter agreed with my assessment. Corrosion is not causing the paint to peel; it is occurring in areas where paint has peeled, and the bare metal is exposed to weathering. He also noticed areas where the metal was not completely covered by paint when it was applied. Overall, there was a poor application of the paint.
Thank you.

Hi *****,
As of today (12/26), I have not been contacted by the business at either my email ******************** or phone *************) to take next steps in resolving the issue. That makes it very clear to me that they have no intention of honoring their warrantee or at least substantiating why the issue will not be covered by it. I believe this indicates that they know there is a defect, and they believe their reputation will not be substantially harmed by refusing to address it.
I hope that your website provides enough information about this business so that potential customers consider looking elsewhere to find a company that stands behind their products.Business Response

Hi *******,
Nothing has changed on this since our last communication. The business never contacted me to resolve the issue.
Customer Answer
Date: 07/31/2025
Hi *******,
Sorry, I didn't realize that the business had contacted you this month when I sent my response earlier today (7/31). When both of us didn't hear from the business for a long period of time, I assumed they had stopped communicating on the issue.
So just to clarify, if you look at the history of our communication, the business stated that they would reach out to me directly to resolve the issue, but that never occurred.
Regardless, as I mentioned in a previous communication about the corrosion, it is occurring where the paint has already peeled/blistered off the windows. Without the paint, the metal under it may corrode as we would expect. This is clearly a defect in manufacturing. Either the windows were improperly primed and or painted, causing the paint to peel/blister with weathering over time. We contacted a professional painting company to evaluate the issue, and the painter agreed with our assessment. He also noticed areas where the metal was not covered by paint when it was applied. Overall, there was a poor application of the paint. According to their Modified Coverages warranty this defect is covered within our time frame. It states: "Laminated and painted frames: 10 years for peeling, blistering, or excessive ultraviolet discoloration." Our house was completed in February of 2021.
Thank you.

Hi *******,
Unsure what other information I need to provide here -
the corrosion that MI is referring to didn't start when the paint peeled off - the paint peeling is what we call the corrosion, please see below:
MIWD has determined that based on the information provided, there is no evidence of manufactural defect with the product. Rather, there is clear evidence of corrosion. Per the MODIFIED COVERAGES section of the attached warranty, corrosion is only covered under the warranty for 2 years. MIWD does offer chargeable paint pens and paint cans. If you would like to order these, please contact customer care at yourCustomer Answer

Complaint: 22458439
I am rejecting this response because:As I stated before, the corrosion is occurring where the paint has already peeled/blistered off the windows, not on windows/areas of windows where the paint properly adhered to the window frames. Without the paint, the metal under it will corrode as we would expect. This is clearly a defect in manufacturing. Either the windows were improperly primed and or painted, causing the paint to peel/blister with weathering over time. We contacted a professional painting company to evaluate the issue, and the painter agreed with our assessment. He clearly stated that the paint should not fail just a few years after installation. He's never seen that occur on windows before, by any window manufacturer. He also noticed areas where the metal was not covered by paint when it was applied. Overall, there was a poor application of the paint. According to the MI Modified Coverages warranty this defect is covered within our time frame. It states: "Laminated and painted frames: 10 years for peeling, blistering, or excessive ultraviolet discoloration." Our house was completed in February of 2021, well within the coverage timeframe.
And just a couple of updates. First, we've started noticing areas where paint is peeling/blistering off the windows on the inside of our house. The house is climate controlled with central air and since we live in *******, we never open the windows. Would business consider that peeling/blistering a result of corrosion too? Second, we also have MI sliding doors. None of those have peeling/blistering paint. My guess is they were produced separately by the business, in a process where the paint was properly applied.

Complaint: 22458439
I am rejecting this response because:It's obvious the business is making an excuse not to honor their Modified Coverages warranty. For example, blaming corrosion for paint peeling/blistering when it is also occurring inside a climate controlled house. A reputable business would be glad to send out a representative to inspect the issue further and explain how that can occur if they actually believed it.
I'll be seeking legal advice this week to determine if it is worth pursing this further. At a minimum, along with the Better Business Bureau, I reached out to various entities for assistance in resolving the issue, including the *********************************************************************, and the *******************************************************. Hopefully this issue is documented well enough to make potential customers aware of the poor business practices of the MI company.

MI windows have been warrantied for 10 years and in those 10 years I have had to request replacement of several windows including a claim I have currently to replace second floor windows, Currently they have asked me to complete a form of which I have no knowledge of window specifications and due to them being a part of MI home builders warrantied windows this information should be a matter of record in their database. I have been told that the warranty will be discontinued as of December of this year meanwhile all of the windows have yet to be replaced with better windows only replaced by the same cheap windows that fall apart within a year or so this time last year I replaced several windows due to broken seals and condensation, This is not in keeping with MI homes who claim to be top in windows and doors. I am pending completion of a warranty form to replace 2 windows on the second floor both in bedrooms. I am all of sudden required to provide the specs of windows that I have no idea of and no labels as they mentioned are carved anywhere on the inside of these windows, These windows are junk and after market none of which are being replaced by the windows shown on their website. Homeowners have been ripped off with these cheap windows and will be responsible for financially replacing all of these windows - MI ripped us off and new customers should be aware. The ********************** are General Aluminum - cheap

Customer reviews posted prior to July 5, 2024, will no longer be published when they reach three years from their submission date. Customer reviews posted on/after July 5, 2024, will be published indefinitely unless otherwise voluntarily retracted by the user who submitted the content, or BBB no longer believes the review is authentic. BBB Business Profiles are subject to change at any time. If you choose to do business with this company, please let them know that you checked their record with BBB.
As a matter of policy, BBB does not endorse any product, service or business. Businesses are under no obligation to seek BBB accreditation, and some businesses are not accredited because they have not sought BBB accreditation. BBB charges a fee for BBB Accreditation. This fee supports BBB's efforts to fulfill its mission of advancing marketplace trust.
