My school college mistakenly sent my account information to ECSI. I pay for college monthly as per our agreement, never late or missed a payment. The school confirmed this was THEIR error and the letter and my information should not have been sent to ECSI as my account was paid according to agreement and in good standing. (I have that in writing from the school). I contacted ECSI to tell them this. The representative told me I had to close my account with my school and pay them instead. This is a complete lie and false information. Why would I pay a collection agency when my account is not past due and my info was sent to them in error. This would hurt my credit! When I said this to the representative she backtracked - probably surprised I was not a naïve college student dumb enough to be scared into paying them. I asked that my personal information INCLUDING my social security number be removed immediately from their system. She said she could not do that and that they have information from people they haven't worked with in years. This is extremely concerning, which I told her. I then repeated that there was no reason they should have my information since I have no business with them. Again, she refused to remove my information and said their system was safe that someone needed a code to log on. When I said that agencies get hacked all the time – like banks, healthcare, the IRS, she had no reply. She just continued to say that they would not remove my information. Why should a company have my personal information and social security number when I have no business with them? This could potentially hurt my credit and put my personal information and social security number at risk of theft. Also, to tell someone to stop paying an account in good standing and to pay them, a collection agency instead, I believe, is illegal. I have contacted my school about this and filed complaints with Federal Trade Commission and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

As many complaints as this company receives … each and every rule you do not like to hear … is because of your school. What can and can’t be done is based off THE SCHOOL. Refund students ECSI is not a bank… Google payment processor Tax students .. if you didn’t pay anything or already got enough money granted why the hell would you receive tax money back ?!

They deposited my refund into a closed account since I didn’t go to school at this college anymore. They emailed me the same day to go onto the school website to change my direct deposit and I did. I find out later that the transaction was rejected by ***** since the account wasn’t active anymore. I went to the bank and they provided me with the statement saying both dated when the money was rejected and when money reversed. I showed that to the school to put that in my file, because I’m not spending anymore money for mailing correspondence with this stupid ECSI when this company is way behind the curve in technology. I called them more than several times and everyone seemed to be lost, didn’t know what happened. And finally I got to someone saying it’d take 45-60 days to process it the affidavit they requested me to send in which none of the options they have on the form related to me. This is a real piece of s*it company and employed a lot of dumb people.
