My basement sump pit overflowed on Saturday, January 20, and flooded the basement with about half an inch of water all throughout the floor. I got the sump pump fixed immediately, which then pulled out most of the water from the basement. By Sunday morning about 90% of the water receded. A field rep by the name of ****** came on Sunday, January 21 at ***** AM. He suggested different solutions to my problem, which included ripping the vinyl floor and parts of the walls. I told him I am not planning to go through my homeowners insurance, and I did not think all those drastic measures were needed for 2-4 small water puddles in certain areas only. So, I told him to give me a quote for few fans, and a dehumidifier for 2 days. Following was his oral quote:10 fans at $25 per day for 2 days: $500 1 Dehumidifier at $75 per day for 2 days: $150Other Administrative charges and Fees: $300-$350 I agreed to the quote, and specifically told him that I DO NOT want to pay more than $1,000, because I do not think there is any damage, plus I am not going thru insurance. He assured me that there will be no way it will be more than $1,000. Following our conversation, I let him bring in the fans and dehumidifier and set them up. He picks them up 2 days later. Suddenly, I get hit with a bill for $1,375, claiming that I agreed to a not to exceed price of $1,500. I never agreed to $1,500, neither I know about any conversation ****** may have had with his boss. I was never provided a written estimate prior to the job. The estimate attached here was created on January 23rd, which is 2 days after the job was completed. Company also claims that since I signed a contract with them, they can charge me whatever they want. That is unethical business practice, as the contract never mentioned any price for the services to be performed. Contract is enclosed as well.
