I am writing to you asking for your help in resolving an issue I have with an apartment complex, which I just Moved out of. I have attached information supporting my complaint. I lived at Muirwood Village Apartments in Delaware, Ohio for about 5 years. I lived there with my husband and 2 children. In November I received a letter from the rental office stating that they were not going to renew my lease for another year. I am attaching a copy of the letter. I went over to the office and asked them why they would not renew my lease, and they said they did not have to give me a reason, and they did not. My lease would have been up for renewal on March 1, 2023. I am also attaching a copy of my last lease showing the lease date. We found another apartment and moved to the address at the top of the letter, and was totally out of the apartment by February 28, 2023, and turned in our keys on March 1, 2023. My rent was paid through February 28, 2023. I am attaching a copy of my money order showing that the rent was paid in the amount of $1,037.00. My rent was $982, but I paid late so rent including late charges was $1,037. I also lost the garage door opener, so I am enclosing a $50.00 money order to them to replace it. Once we had moved, I received a check from Muirwood Village (Delaware Housing Trust Limited Ptship) in the amount of $265.00, which was dated March 21, 2023. I have attached a copy of their check stub, along with my deposit slip to First Community Bank. I did not get an explanation as to what the check was for. On April 3, 2023 I received a notice from I.Q. International, Inc., a collection agency showing that Muirwood Village had turned me info collections for $651.00. I had never received any notice from Muirwood. The notice does not say what they are trying to collect, so I called the agency. The lady I spoke with said it was for prorated rent for the month of March, 2023. I told the collection agency that I had received a check from Muirwood in the amount of $265.00, and did not understand why they were trying to collect from me since they chad sent me the check. Muirwood did not do or even schedule a walk through with me before I moved. I thought this was something they are supposed to do. They could say anything was wrong with the apartment and try to collect something, which any collection agency would not know, and just take their client's word for it. We would have gladly done a walk through. It is impossible to talk with anyone at Muirwood Rental office, because they never answer the phone, return calls, nor are they ever in the office. I have gone there numerous times, left numerous calls and they are never available. So, I decided my best alternative was to write to you for assistance. I cannot talk to the collection agency, because they feel they are in control, and nothing I say means anything. I guess they are committed to their client whether it be legitimate or not.
