  In January 2024, BBB received a sudden influx of Scam Tracker Reports regarding “HCL Software DeveOps.” This prompted BBB to initiate an investigation. In these Scam Tracker reports consumers indicate they were contacted by representatives from a company named HCL Software DeveOps with a job offer shortly after applying for open positions at other companies online, such as tax preparation services. BBB discovered that there is a legitimate company that uses the “HCL Software” name, however, that company’s USA headquarters is located in Sunnyvale, California, and seems to have no Cleveland, Ohio location. Additionally, HCL Software DeveOps uses a different website URL than HCL Software. According to ICANN WhoIs records, HCL Software DeveOps’ website, https://www.hclsoftwaredevops.com/,  was created recently on January 22, 2024. Based on this and the information provided to BBB by numerous consumers, BBB advises caution when interacting with this business offering remote work. BBB recommends that applicants should always carefully research job offers by verifying job postings on official company websites. Consumers should check email addresses to examine if they match website domains used by the actual businesses. Be alert to businesses using Gmail and other free email accounts as official email addresses. Immediate offers of employment or early requests for sensitive information, such as bank account and social security numbers are red flags.
