On 11/15/25, we contacted Roto Rooter about a clogged drainage pipe at a manufactured home that we own and RR sent a plumber. The RR plumber said he tried to snake thru the clog, but the snake failed, so he requested someone else at RR to come over and scope the pipe with a video camera.
      We received:
      1. A $460 invoice for the failed attempt to snake the pipe.
      2. A $6,000 proposal from ***** ******r at RR that contradicts itself. The proposal says that RR would "clean the line either with a mechanical blade and cable or a high-pressure water jet" and that this is a temorary solution. The proposal also says that "existing line will be....replaced with a new line and cleanout."
Two days later, we had a legitamite plumber come. He successfully snaked the pipe, and cleared the clog. It took him 30 minutes and he charged $260.
In other words, RR charged $460 for being unable to a job that another plumber was able to do in 30 minutes for $260.
I believe that RotoRooter should refund all or most of the $460. I also would like to know what the contradictory $6,000 proposal is supposed to mean.

Customer service is great. The technicians are thorough. The issue I have with this business is you make an appointment, automatically receive a text saying the tech will be late, then have to go back and forth waiting an additional hour or day for service. This has happened every time I've worked with this business. They must do better. They need a better tab on where their techs are and how long it'll take them to complete a service. Then they'd be able to give the customer a better estimated time on when a tech will arrive. Right now... the expected wait time is all over the place. 11/7 - I called for service, told the tech would arrive between 1-3pm. After several calls, I was told they'd arrive before 4pm. I said tell them not to come after 4... I'll reschedule. They came any way. 11/9 - I was told a tech would arrive at various afternoon times. No one ever showed. I was told I'd then have to wait until 11/10 for service!

?? Stay Away from This Company – They Only Care About Your Money, Not Your Problem If I could give zero stars, I would. I’ve spent over $1,000 with Roto-Rooter, and my plumbing problem is still not fixed. Here’s what happened: • First visit: My tenant reported a clogged kitchen sink. Roto-Rooter came, charged $500, and said it was fixed. Few days later, the sink overflowed again. • Second visit: They said it’s a main line blockage and charged me another $600. They promised a camera inspection to confirm the real cause. • When the plumber came for the inspection, he stayed two minutes and left. My tenant said he didn’t do anything. • I called the office and was told they’d check with the plumber (his name was ****) and get back to me. Guess what? No one ever did. • Two days later, the basement flooded again. When they finally did the camera inspection, they sent me a $5,200 estimate—and refused to show me the camera footage, saying it “belongs to the company.” Excuse me? I paid for that inspection! Every time they come, they claim it’s a different issue and ask for more money. There’s no accountability, no follow-up, and definitely no professionalism. This company is not focused on fixing problems — they’re focused on milking customers over and over. Save yourself the frustration and find an honest local plumber who actually cares about doing the job right.

Roto Rooter is running a scam. The scam is simple and machiavellian. They make sure that they are the most publicized plumber company and that they can show up faster than anyone. (Even though there are many same day companies, they depend on their brand to get them in the door first). All other companies, however, will quote their prices before they arrive. For example - cleaning a drain - even same day - is just between ****** dollars. That's *** But Roto Rooter refuses to cite a price beforehand - they say, instead, "we'll give you a free estimate. No charge. And we hire independent contractors, so we can't set their prices. Then the "independent technician" comes by - in a roto rooter truck. And the technician quotes customers 10 times the going rate or more. (For example, they quoted me $575 just to clean out a drain.). At this point, customers who haven't done research - typically exactly the people who cant afford to be screwed but get screwed anyway - feel pressured and pay it. Others who know they are getting screwed now have an emergency and they see the guy is there and can handle it - and -realizing its probably too late to get someone else because they trusted the roto rooter brand - just pay it anyway. Others, like me - ask for a discount - at which point the scam is revealed and the technician says "I can't, the prices are set by roto-rooter." Then, when I refused - the guy continued the scam by offering a hundred dollars off. As instructed, I'm sure. Personally, I said no and hired someone else who did the work for $125. But that's because I'm an attorney. Roto rooter clearly makes its money off of people in real jams, and old people, people whose language skills are limited, etc. In other words - it's a predatory, price-gouging scam. Furthermore, they make that money off of people who probably cant afford it, and at the expense of honest companies, trying to do good work for a decent price.

I found there was some water and sewage that backed up in my basement. I explained to Roto Rooter over the phone of the situation and that we would possibly need it to be snaked. Initially, they sent out a plumber who flat out told me that he does not have the ability to snake the drain and he would have to put a lead out to dispatch for a new plumber. It took about an hour for the next plumber to come out. When the next plumber showed up, he barely addressed who he was and had an attitude with me for this entire duration of his stay. I would ask questions in which he would give extremely vague answers. He told me about 2 hours into the job that there was a potential clog he can't get past and he would need the camera tech to come out. He said if the clog is under my front porch that they would need to dig the entire porch out to place the pipe. Once the camera tech arrived, they would be able to visualize the pipe. They would not show me the camera footage but told me that the pipe at the front of my house in my basement is collapse and they "punched a hole through soil" to clear the pipe. Mind you, I have no trees in front or back yard. It seemed like they were trying to instill fear in me as if this problem needed to get fixed asap and for a starting cost of $3500. I had to speak with my husband about the matter in which the camera tech was wonderful in relaying all the information to him, but the plumber would continuously cut him off and not properly explain what was going on. So they managed to clear the pipe and take almost $800 from me. After signing the paperwork for the job, the plumber even asked for a five star review. The whole encounter was extremely uneasy and uncomfortable with the lack of professionalism. The next day we got a second opinion from another company. Not only did they snake and used the camera, they let my husband watch. They did not visualize any collapsed pipe and said the main sewer line was totally clear. I call Roto Rooter again.

They sent a technician ******* by name from the **** location. He was an hour late. He looked at 2 of my toilets, telling me that all the parts in my toilets needed to be replaced even though I told him genuine parts had just been replaced. There was only the base of the flapper that was not replaced. I explained to him 3 times that all the parts have been replaced except the one part. He said that we were having a translation issue to which I replied that I probabley speak better English that he did to which he got angry and stormed out. I called the office to complain. No one was able to get me to a manager to file a complaint. The cost to replace was quoted at $450 a piece which was 15 minutes of work.  He said they charged by the job and not by the hour. Poor customer service and exorbitant pricing.

I had a flood in my basement on Aug 13. Roto Rotor rep **** came the same night as the flood. Despite calling for a plumber, **** from water restoration also showed up unannounced. We called my home insurance that said my cap was $5000 for the water and mud clean-up. **** give me an estimated cost between $2500 to $6500 and also stated he would work with me to keep the cost below $5000. I told him I would remove the mud and wet wood to keep the cost down. About a month later Roto Rooter sent me a bill of $17,000. My home insurance won’t even cover the $5000. I feel that I was misled. I should have been given a real estimated price. **** acted as if insurance would cover the entire cost. He knows my cap was only $5000 why give me an estimated price of $2500 to $6500 for a 10k plus job. And in addition, say that he would work to keep the price under $5000. I’ve dealt with several plumbers for this problem relating to my sewer line being broken which caused the flood including one from Roto Rotor plumbing division and all of them give me a true estimated price of how much it would cost to fix my sewer line. **** of Roto Water restoration did no such thing when giving me a quote for the water restoration. **** could have simply told me the true estimated price for the size of the job and that the possible insurance payout could cover part of the overall cost instead of inferring that the insurance cap would cover the entire cost of the job. I believe this was totally dishonest. And totally unnecessary. As of this month I’m still removing debris and materials from my basement because I thought it would “lower the cost” as **** said. I believe either this was incompetence which I honestly doubt, or it was a blatant attempt to mislead me simply to get my business. I would suggest that anyone has home problems don’t panic and sign anything from anyone that shows up out of the blue. I'l never use this company again because of their dishonest business practices.

Billing Issue: Roto-Rooter & Water Cleanup On November 29, 2024 a technician came to our house to unclog our master toilet that had overflowed and damaged the carpet. The technician fixed the issue and we paid him $1070 for this service. Later that day the water cleanup team came and gave us a quote of $6380 for damaged to the master closet from the overflow. I signed a contract via his tablet. The technician was scrolling up and down so fast, stating to me that it was only an authorization to start the job. The job took 3 days and they surprised me with an invoice for $13,100. This company charged us double and did not complete the work as discussed.

We had a sewer issue last week. The guy that came to clean it out was at our home in about an hour and had the drain cleared without problems. He was followed up by 2 more employees that were assessing our damage. We were told that our drain needed to be cleaned out and a sleeve installed. Our adjoining room had to be cleaned out, carpet removed. The total for both jobs was $14,000. They said they would have a team here the next day and the drain repairs would be done in 2 days. Well our insurance adjuster came the day after they were here and checked for damage with a moisture meter (Roter Rooter never used one). She determined that there was only 3 inches of moisture into the next room and only in a small area and we could use fans to dry it out. In the meantime we called our city to see who they used for drain cleaning. We got their number and a quote of $1,800.00 for the job. Roto Rooter wanted to put a sleeve liner in and cleaning. The other company said that you can’t put a liner in a cast iron pipe! We are doing the repairs ourselves. Long story, my husband called them to get an actual itemized quote, they said that’s difficult to do and we haven’t heard another word from them. Be careful folks. We would have been out a lot of money. Get 2 quotes before you agree to any repairs. Also, ask for a certificate of insurance before any work is done in your home!

I had a sewer pipe replaced in Dec. of 2024 and while the workmanship was great the follow up regarding fixing the hole, making ruts in my lawn and not fixing them, plus damaging my water shut-off valve was non-existent. Their claims, besides not returning my calls, were baseless concerning they had nothing in their contract regarding fixing the ruts. It took them 10 months to fill back and groom the hole that they stated would be done especially after numerous calls from me regarding this situation. They were going to call me first when they were to come over and did not especially when I was out of town and again not calling me when they would come. I spent over $8500.00 for this and not having the decency to call me back was not what a company should be doing to its customers. I am forwarding them a bill from a company that I called to make the repairs since, once again, they failed to return my call. Stay away from this company since the word promised is not in their vocabulary.
