Per conversation with ****, the delivery date is ASAP, meaning it's open ended. He has no way of telling when these monuments will be delivered to him based on the quarries (lack of workers) and delivery (lack of drivers). That being said, the **** monument is ready and he is just waiting to have help to install. It is on his property and will be installed within 2 to 2.5 weeks. We ordered and paid for a headstone for my fathers grave in January 2024. At that time the owner told us it would be set in ****** We waited until June 3,2024 to call and ask why it was not set yet. The owner told us it was down to be set in the next ten days. Again, we waited until July 15th to call him again. This time he was very rude and said it was down to be done July 18th and if not the 18th then the 19th. Today is the 19th and still nothing. We paid in full when we placed the order.Business Response

My mother and I agreed to the services of this company on Oct 30, 2021 to complete and install my deceased father's headstone. Over the course of 2 and a half years, my mother has either called or stopped in several times only to be met with excuses and lies about the date of completion. I did not put any money down but have run out of patience and am in talks with another company about completing the requested work. I wish to avoid legal repercussions by breaching this contract and want to make sure I am justified due to their failure of performance and misleading communication. Monument We ordered a double monument on 3-10-22 for my mother and father. Was told it would be done around Memorial Day. Gave us a wooden stake to put on my father grave. Called after Memorial Day and was gave a bunch of excused and said wouldn’t be much longer. Called months later and was told the monument was done and on a semi trailer just waiting for a driver to deliver it and that could take weeks. Called a few months later and got the same story but said it shouldn’t be much longer. What they consider a footer was placed a couple weeks later. We was told a poured footer which turned out to be a pre fab apron with a bag of unmixed sakrete underneath. (See attached picture 1) The footer was half on someone else’s plot. And not centered on my father and mothers plots. (See attached picture 2) Was blamed on the caretaker of the cemetery but according to the caretaker the workers only asked where my fathers plot was. The caretaker had no idea they were placing a double monument. So he showed them where my father was and where we had placed the wooden stake. I talked to **** sever times and he assured us it would be fixed. That was back in September 2022 and it is still not fixed and have not heard from him. I have called recently and was told he was with another family and the lady took my information but I have yet to hear back. I would just like for my parents monument to be placed and correctly done.Business Response

Business stated they did not have a map of the cemetery and were relying on the caretaker to direct the workers. They were told incorrect information but went back and corrected this. Because of Covid, this industry has been hit hard. Lack of workers, material shortages, labor shortages along with delivery issues have affected the length of time people are waiting for monuments/headstones. Business stated they have completed this work and vases had to be removed while stone was set but are back. More details to follow.

Purchased monument on 3/16/22. Paid in full $1550.00. Was told that it would be at ********* cemetery by June 1st 2022, but it was not. I spoke with **** several times about why it wasn't there and he had one excuse after another, each with an attitude as if I was bothering him. On February 3rd 2023 it was still not at her grave site. On Monday February 6th 2023, I was contacted by a family to let me know that my mom's monument was on the plot of a member of their family. I contacted the cemetery and they let me know that southern ohio monument had messed up and was responsible for it. The family had went there for their family members birthday on Friday February 3rd 2023 to have a birthday celebration and had to deal with my mom's headstone being on his grave. I have had to deal with **** and it hasn't been easy, but I can't imagine what this has done to the other family.Business Response

The monument was placed on the wrong grave but the workers were directed to the spot by the cemetery workers. They failed to say there were two foundations in the same area. It was placed on a Friday and when I was notified of the error it was corrected immediately. I apologize this happened but mistakes happen. It was corrected as soon as possible. SOMC

**** refuses to take responsibility for anything. The response of "mistakes happen" is not okay. This kind of mistake is not acceptable. He has no regard for my family or the other family's emotional outcome after going through this. He is disrespectful and should accept responsibility.

We ordered a monument from Southern Ohio Monument Co. Went into office ordered our monument had our deceased Sons name added to it also pictures. Pd in full on 94/22/2022. Was told be ready 7/22 called in 08/22 said the writing was on waiting on the picture it has to come from Italy to be added called 9/22 was told picture added willbe about 2 weeks. Called in November told having trouble getting concrete to set footer base for monument. We will call when ready. Now it's Jan.2023 called today 1/17/23 mailbox not accepting messages. no communication whether it's ready or not. The only thing is we had a nephew die around first part of 2022 his monument is beautiful and set. Our son was cremated I would like to bury his ashes, but I guess if your cremated it's not as important as a reg. burial. We have always dealt with Southern ohio monument. Sent alot of family to him. To Our Valued Customers
Doing business in today’s world is different than it was previously. Some customers have become frustrated due to the length of time it takes to deliver a monument. At the time of sale, I try to be realistic about delivery time but there are a few changes that have happened and I want to explain them:
Due to Covid, there have been one million more deaths than normal.
The quarries always worked five days a week but now are working seven days, 8 to 10 hours
per day to try to get the granite out of the ground. They are still behind six to eight weeks to get granite to all production facilities.
The granite industry is no different than any other in the US and there is not enough
work force to fill the jobs
Once a monument is produced, it may sit on a truck two to three weeks waiting on a
driver to transport the load. Import granite can be waiting six to seven months to get unloaded
from the ship.
After talking with my suppliers and the granite quarries, it appears this will be the “normal” for the next
ten to fourteen months. It is a slow process to overcome all the issues that are involved. I am asking for
our customers to be understanding in this matter.
Now that the weather is warming, foundations will be scheduled to be completed.

I purchased a small monument from Southern Ohio Monument Company on June 13, 2022. The monument is to be placed at my father's grave in Obetz, Ohio, cemetery, according to the order form/receipt. For several months I had to keep calling the business to get an update as to where the monument was. I kept getting excuses and even at one time was told the company could not find the monument (it was lost they told me). Recently I called and was finally told that they have the monument but due to labor shortages, etc., they cannot deliver it and set it up at the cemetery. I was told that the reason I got the monument at a good price was that they could not ship it all the way to central Ohio to the cemetery. After talking to the company I called the Obetz Cemetery and was told they have never heard of this. All monument companies bring the monuments to the cemetery and set them up. I believe I am being wronged. This is bull crap since I would have never agreed to this. I certainly do not want to have to come pick up the monument myself and they transport it and set it up at the cemetery. I am attaching a copy of my order/receipt.Business Response

THE MONUMENT IS A FLAT MARKER 16 INCHES LONG X 8 INCHES WIDE X 4 INCHES THICK AND WEIGHTS ABOUT 50 POUNDS. EVEN THE CUSTOMER MADE THE REMARK THIS IS QUITE CHEAPER THAN OTHER COMPANIES SHE HAD PRICED. AS FAR AS THE CEMETERY MAKING THE REMARK ALL COMPANIES DELIVER THE STONES BUT THEY MUST NOT HAVE KNEW THE SIZE AND THAT IT WAS NOT A BIG MONUMENT BECAUSE WE HAVE HAD TWO FAMILIES TAKE MARKERS THERE. AS WELL AS FAMILIES DO THIS ALL THE TIME TO CONTROLL PRICE . THE FAMILY JUST CALLED AND COMING FOR US TO LOAD THE STONE FOR THEM TO DELIVER TO THE CEMETERY AND DROP OFF BECAUSE THE CEMETERY SETS THE SMALL FLAT STONES ON CREAMATIONS. Last week I had to go pick up the monument myself so now I have it. I now have to coordinate with the cemetery to get it placed correctly at the cemetery. When I purchased the monument I was not told that I would have to come pick up the monument and handle placing it at the cemetery myself.
At the time of purchase of the monument, I understood that all would be taken care of by the monument company for me. If the monument company would not/could not deliver it to the cemetery and set it up for me -- I should have been told this. Also, this should have been detailed on my receipt from the monument company, which it was not.
I would have had no problem paying for a delivery and set up at the time I purchased the monument. I did not want to go pick up and then take my father's monument myself. I am not in the business of placing cemetery markers at graveyards. This is why I went to the monument company in the first place!!!
The monument company should alert folks that they do not/will not set up markers for cremains at cemeteries and this needs to be in writing on the receipt from the company.

I will apologize if there was a misunderstanding at the time of sale about delivery of the monument, but I recall discussing the low price of the stone and that was due to not delivering it to the cemetery. It is customary for the size of monument that was purchased, 16 inches by 8 inches, to deliver it to the cemetery by the family and the cemetery workers set the stone.Customer Answer
