The following describes a pending government action that has been formally brought by a government agency but has not yet been resolved. We are providing a summary of the governments allegations, which have not yet been proven.
On 2/21/2023, the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance announced the results of a recent statewide crackdown on bad tax preparers.
Joseph Clay, 49, is accused of filing returns with bogus Individual Retirement Account (IRA) deductions at Prime Tax & Professional Services, LLC in Yonkers. During an undercover operation in April of 2022, Mr. Clay allegedly prepared tax returns for tax years 2019 and 2021 with fictitious deductions. He was arrested in January 2023 and charged with two counts of offering a false instrument for filing and two counts of criminal tax fraud.
