If I could give RGE zero stars, I would.
After my apartment building caught fire and was officially deemed uninhabitable, I contacted RGE to discuss a credit for services I could no longer use as I was billed for 5 days I didn’t live there. I was displaced and not consuming any utilities during this time. Sounds reasonable, right? Apparently not to RGE.
Three reps. Three supervisors. Hours of my life wasted. And the end result? They told me to “take it up with my landlord” instead of issuing a measly $20 credit for a service I physically could not use. That’s not just bad service—it’s outright negligence.
As someone with years of experience working in call centers and leading customer service teams, I am appalled at how this was handled. No empathy. No accountability. Just stonewalling and finger-pointing. I will be filing a formal corporate complaint. And I sincerely hope others read this before trusting RGE to treat them with even basic human decency in a crisis.
      Absolutely disgraceful.

Genuinely the worst company to work with. I never write reviews, but the fact they do not care about their customers and do not prioritize their customers speaks volume. Keeping electricity off even when paid and all the food gets spoiled in the fridge! You would think they care to be on top of things, especially with these outcomes but nope! 0-10 experience from them.

only one star because zero is not permitted. If you have autopay to a credit card (as I have for years), it gets stolen, they bill twice on the card and they notify you so they can collect the "bounced fee". Then they tell you pay via money order or in person with cash for a year. If you call the ladies are very polite and say set policy, no exceptions. If they weren't a monopoly, they would go out of business quickly. We have no choice and they know it.

RG&E billing has gone absolutely insane. There is no consistency whatsoever, and honestly the way they are going about it is causing a financial hardship for us. Our last "real" bill was in January 2025; in February we were charged only $2.23. We have not received a bill AT ALL for March and April, now for May we have an enormous bill. They have an Ethisphere 'Most Ethical Companies' award for 2024... Makes me wonder how much they paid for it, because there is no way this company even knows the definition of ethics. Ludicrous.

I contacted RG&E twice in regards to receiving inflated bills, inquiring about why my bill increased when habits within my home hadn't changed, I live alone and work from 8 AM-8 PM, however my bill increased by almost $200. After contacting RG&E I was told that it was due to I stalling the Smart Readers and a technician will come out to my home to recalibrate the Smart Reader and I wouldreceivearefundor credit. No one ever came out and my bill continues to increase.

Charging customers without rhyme or reason, I have provided meter readings and they refuse to adjust my bill. I've filed disputes saying I'd hear back and still haven't heard anything. They are now blaming the costs on increased electrical prices. There is NO reason my bill should be 2000$ for one month! Each time I call it is a different reason and none of it makes sense.

Since 2024, RG&E has become much stranger with their billing. I purchased and moved into my home in 2007. RGE said I had a back payment of $2000 from my previous residence and my bill would now be $250/Mon to go toward the back pay and the current usage. Since 2007, my pays were always $200/mo. For a while I was allowing them to come in to read my meters but they banged so hard on my new door at that time, they put dents in it. After reporting that, I began to call in the readings. My bill then went from $200 to $250. Years later, I discussed with my bill with my brother, he suggested I call the readings in once at the end of summer. Athe last few years I started doing that and now my bill has gone up and continually began to rise, $300, $400, $500, $600, $800, $5000, $500, and finally March 2025, almost $9000.
I have been calling RG&E, emailed local news and I emailed someone I found that supposed to investigate them. One time I called about the $5000 bill and the guy said, "just pay $3000" to keep my heat and electric on. First off, if I had $3000 to give you wouldn't be charging me this much. Second, you sound like a scammer. Ultimately, RG&E asked us to send in readings, pictures and we gave them readings over the phone. They sent people out to check the meters and said the last guy was an investigator. The guy came Fri March 7, 2025, he said he's a contractor sent to read the meter. No investigation ever took place.
This all took place after we got our home insulated. Then 2020-2023, the city further insulated and provided doors, some wind replacements and updated our gas water heater to an electric water heater. I don't know why they are choosing to scam us but I know it doesn't take almost 20 years to pay a back bill of $2000 that then balloons into almost $9000. Another thing, years ago I asked them to move the electric meter outside so they can read it without coming in. They told me it would cost me $800+. I said no. Now it's free.
      I feel scammed.

Charging customers without rhyme or reason, I have provided meter readings and they refuse to adjust my bill. They are now blaming the costs on increased electrical prices. Each time I call it is a different reason and none of it makes sense. They installed and smart meter and all of the sudden my bill has magically gone up $125 since installed in the first month. No one will be able to afford their bills if this persists.

If we had any other option for electric in our area I would 100 percent switch. I’ve never been billed wrong more in my life and somehow it’s acceptable. They didn’t read my meter for 2.5 years and billed me 4500 dollars and that’s not the only mistake they have made

Changed the power meter and never let us know that the power would be out.
