**** was the first to call from Angi's online home advisor, which I assumed had vetted all the companies they recommend. On July 10, 2023, *****, the contractor, was given $15,000, the amount outlined in his contract, as a down payment, which turned out to be 75% of the cost of the first of the two itemized projects he was to do. Now, it is March 5, 2024 and roughly 1/3 (one-third) of the work for a basement egress/entrance has been completed. A town inspector came January 8, 2024 and approved continuation, but cited work that had to be undone. No workers had been on the job since 12/21/23 and have not yet come back to do any work on the project. They have been taking their holiday vacation and sick leave. ***** texted and said they would resume today. Then texted again to say it will rain today and tomorrow, so they will return on Thursday. *****'s copious excuses, unwillingness to do what we want done, lack of communication skills and poor business etiquette have caused me to lose confidence in his ability to complete this job. I don't like to discredit anyone, but I also don't like to be disrespected or to deal with people whose integrity I have to question. I'd like to find someone else to complete the job and to be refunded a portion of the down payment given to ****.
