On July 11th I completed an intake evaluation with Talkiatry that is in network with my insurance. For a 45 minute session they billed my insurance over 700 dollars. After my insurance disputed it they are now charging me over 300$ for one 45 minute telehealth session. I called customer support and they said that they normally charge *******, admitting this and proving they are not up front about costs. If they had told me proposed costs, I would not sign up with them. In the state of ********** the average cost of psychiatric evaluation is $129. They billed me over 500 for that CPT code.Customer Answer

I had an appointment with one of their doctors via televist. I did my part giving myself time to get set up for the appointment so there was no interruptions. Well shortly after getting connected to the doctor he had asked for me to put my camera on so I did. My call dropped so I went back to the link to rejoin within a minute. For whatever reason I kept getting a message stating that my appointment has moved or changed and that the link was no longer valid. So I called the company to see what had happened. They had informed me that the doctor had canceled the visit right after disconnecting on my behalf and that I would still need to pay. I then asked how that is even allowed when I physically did not cancel it myself nor did I approved the cancellation. I find fault in this and do not believe I am responsible to pay for a service I never received. What is stopping them from abusing this? How do we not know that these doctors are using this program for a financial gain. If they have the power to cancel other people services that they can still charge for then we need to look into getting that changed.Initial Complaint

I have seen the doctor through tallest for a couple of appointments over the last couple of months. I switched insurances, and they do not accept my new insurance. For this reason, I have found another provider. Talkiatry will not stop contacting me via phone and email to set up an appointment, even though I had clarified this with them many times. Its to the point where it is giving me panic attacks. I believe this is harassment at this point.Initial Complaint

BBB Complaint Against Talkiatry Business Name: Talkiatry Category: Improper Billing / Insurance Mismanagement Complaint Type: Billing for Services Already Paid Date of Incident: February 20, 2025 (Ongoing)Amount in Dispute: $313.00 Complaint Statement:I am filing this complaint due to Talkiatrys ongoing attempt to bill me $313 for a date of service February 20, 2025 that was already paid for by my insurance. Despite providing proof of payment, confirming Coordination of benefits with my primary and secondary insurance carriers and communicating with their billing department multiple times, the balance remains on my account, and I am being warned that it will be sent to collections.The claim in question was processed and paid by *****. I have provided Talkiatry with:A copy of the Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from ***** confirming payment.A copy of the Meritain EOB that reflects that no additional payment is due from ******* reference numbers from both Aetna and Meritain, where representatives confirmed that the claim was properly processed and the patient (myself) is not responsible for any remaining balance.Despite this, Talkiatry continues to pursue me for payment and has stated that the account will go to collections if not resolved within 150 days. Their billing department has declined to resubmit the claim or acknowledge the payment already received, even though both insurance carriers have confirmed that the provider (Talkiatry) was reimbursed.This behavior is not only unprofessional, but also unethical. I downloaded talkiatry and was thinking about using it to see a psychiatrist. I started to do the assessment when you get on their page, but I did not finish because I decided not to use them due to the poor reviews and just having a gut feeling that this is not what I am looking for. They made me make an appointment in order to proceed with more detail details but upon seeing the remainder detail/questions they were asking I no longer want to participate with this company . The appointment was on a Monday and I attempted to cancel my whole account between Friday Saturday and Sunday, however, they stated that their offices were not open on the weekends and I was unable to cancel and they have called to let me know theyve charged me $100 for missing an appointment. Mind you, I never confirmed this appointment or even finished the intake documentations or the assessment, therefore I shouldve not been added to the appointment to begin with. I did not put my insurance, any form of identification, or pay info on my profile because it was never complete to begin with. No services have been provided and no confirmation or consent to the appointment was ever complete or confirmed. I began to sign up to use Talkiatry, but never submitted my Insurance information or any payment information, because I decided to go to Counseling (in person) locally. Talkiatry started hounding me through texts and emails to make an appointment with them and when I didn't, they sent me a bill (in the mail), for $100 stating I was being billed as a No Call/No Show patient. I initially called just to be evaluated for ADHD to try and lessen my anxiety and insomnia. She ended up saying that I should be in therapy a couple times a week and suggested SSRIs. So I said thanks but no thanks. They've been calling me ever since even though I said not to contact any longer. Today they called (4th time), and I asked if they were charging me, she literally said "I can not confirm or deny that" **** So I told them again to never contact me and blocked the number but they obviously can call from a ton of different numbers.Initial Complaint

I am formally disputing the charge of $100 associated with Bill ID: **************. This bill is for an appointment that did not occur, and I clearly communicated this in real time with the provider. The psychiatrist and I mutually agreed not to proceed with the session due to the unresolved insurance verification. I made multiple attempts prior to the appointment to confirm coverage but received no assistance.Despite this, I am now being harassed for payment for a service that was never rendered. I called in for the apt. asked for verification that it would be covered and the Psychiatrist didn't know and agreed to not proceed with the apt. This ongoing situation is causing me significant emotional and physical distress, which is particularly damaging given that I was seeking help for mental health concerns in the first place.The resolve I would like to see:Immediately stop collection efforts related to this disputed charge if they have been filed.
