I have had issues with Rate My Professor since the end of 2020. I stopped working as an adjunct at a community college at the end of 2020 and noticed RMP's reviews. I asked them to delete my profile as I no longer work there. There response was that I was still considered an employee at the community college. In August of 2021, my profile was still on RMP and I contact both RMP and my previous employer--I contacted the latter to ensure that my name and information was removed from their directory. As of December 2023, that profile still remains up and active. At my current institution (as a PhD student) I not only have a profile, but 3 reviews from students. The third and latest review was dated March 2023 and complains about a class (ENGL ****) I did not teach that semester. This is even more worrisome because I had to file with the ****** of ***** Rights against my own department for discrimination. I am concerned that this post was retaliation from someone at the ******************* I flagged the post on December 15th, never heard back from them, and found out the post had been "cleared" by RMP. There is no explanation as to what they mean by "cleared" and the post remains up on my profile page. They never once contacted me or asked me verify the validity of my complaint. RMP has done nothing to ensure that posts are accurate, from currently enrolled students, or to respond to professors who are concerned about how the website portrays them. I would like RMP to remove my previous profile and the most recent post that was inaccurate and most likely retaliation.

Im a professor ******** twice recipient of the Distinguished Teaching award; and honored as an Educator to Watch. Rate My Professor ***** allows anyone to freely post negative content on professors whom they dont know, have never taken a class from, or maybe never attended a university. RMP is an open platform where anything can be stated by anyone, about any professor. With this open, unvetted, and unmonitored forum, RMP has no real purpose but to attract those who intend to engage in defamation.Students who post on this platform are disgruntled about their grades and have encountered a professor ****** allow the high-school mentality, so some see attacking the professor as being easier than working hard to earn good grades. Their only goal is to try to ruin their professors reputations. I recently had a student, maybe their family or friends add my name to courses I have not taught in TWO DECADES, just to spew negativity. Then, an undiscoverable Gmail was sent to my work email titled Terrible B***h, with a link to a page dedicated to me on RMP. When I communicated with RMP their response was: This is an open site where users can voice their opinions and experiences. Really?RMP needs to be proactive in making sure that students are enrolled at the university and have taken a professors course, and that RMP will conduct reviews of students posts. Knowing that their posts will be reviewed, and action taken if needed, students might be more willing to give constructive criticism rather than resorting to open hate. I think that RMP should be held accountable based on some complaints on this BBB website. I have since retired from the university, but I do care that RMP work with universities to remove the profiles of professors who have passed on, retired, or dont want to be associated with the platform. Names of professors should not be listed without their permission, and it should not be a problem to remove the names of those who ask.

A student left a review for my class which I hadnt even taught in 3 years. It was obvious from the timing that they were just taking out their anger. This site should have better quality control. Instead it has zero support. Highly problematic.

RMP lets anyone with internet access to make anonymous accounts without verifying that they are a college student, let alone attending the courses they are reviewing. Students can dogpile a professor for any reason including racism, sexism, homophobia, vibes, or just because they don't like it when people assign them work to do. There are no consequences for the student since it is completely anonymous. Professors beware: if you calculate grades solely by the learning that students can demonstrate through assignments and assessments, your career will be impacted by low ratings on RMP.Do you want current and future employers to respect you? Do you want students to be willing to enroll in your classes so your sections aren't canceled? I guess you'll have to lower your academic standards and hand out As and ***** participation trophies, in exchange for better RMP ratings.*Of course the standards are different when you make a professor account. We have to verify our .edu email address in order to have the ability to write a response to reviews. Professor ********* are actually reviewed before being published (unlike the ratings themselves). And that's the only perk of making a professor account. We can't get a review taken down if it contains lies about us or the course. We can't add a bio to our profile to state in clear terms how the course is actually run. And we certainly can't anonymously create a Rate My Students profile for each student whose proudest academic achievement in college is the fictional essay they wrote in their RMP ratings (despite the impossibly busy schedule that supposedly prevented them from doing the work for the course they failed).*Actually, many professors have just started to create their own student accounts and give themselves 5/5 ratings to boost their averages. Wouldn't you? Since there is no accountability or verification on the student side, it's really easy. The understatement of a lifetime is "take RMP with a grain of salt".

They accepted a review about me from 2018 when I was no where near teaching at that university. Actually I am not a professor. I was a grad assistant a decade prior. Obviously, they do not *************** are attending an actual course of an actual professor. *** should not be legal.

Rate my Professor accepts dishonest comments from students who turn their own shortcomings against the professors who are simply trying to do their job right. False, biased reviews full of hatred - unsubstantiated comments about attitudes and teaching abilities just because students wanted an easier class. This institution should be banned and illegal.
