Purchased tax services by a CPA from 1-800-Accountant. This is my third attempt at meeting with a *** since signed up and each time they tell me a certified CPA will be calling me but it is not. They call themselves EAs. Tax advisors. Paid $3,999 altogether. $999 through Zen Business toward the tax services and $3000 to 1-800-Accountant for unlimited access to a dedicated CPA. I purchased this on June 2 2025 and am yet to speak to a ***. My only meeting seeing them online the name was listed as Do Not R. They have taken $3999 from me and provided me with zero services and do not give access to actual CPAs, just tax advisors. I do not trust them with my money or taxes and I want all of my money refunded. Fraudulent company charging for services not rendered. I want all services with 1-800-Accountant canceled, nothing recurring and I want my personal information deleted. During the last encounter with a person who was not a CPA, I said I wanted to cancel and he said someone would be in touch and hung up the phone on me while I was speaking.Business Response

Paid over $4,000 for them to prepare my business and personal taxes. They informed me that they would handle everything. However, as time went on they asked me to provide stuff *** I would then they asked me to input the information. It was a headache but I did it anyway. I informed the tax adviser that I was purchasing a home and he let me know of the next steps. When it can time for my tax preparer to complete my taxes she called me with loud music in the background. It was the most unprofessional thing ever. She attempted to go to another room but I then could not hear her still. It was very unprofessional. She asked me for docume to that were already in my portal. The lack of communication between the employees at this business was ridiculous. The lack of being attentive to the notes and documents for my case was absurd. This was March, it's July and I still don't have my taxes done.i have called several times and messaged and still no call back. I will advise anyone who wants their taxes done PLEASE go elsewhere. In February 2025, I signed up for a tax/accounting package via *********** and 1-800Accountant. I paid approximately $2,600, and the invoice shows I was purchasing the Core Accounting Package, which clearly lists both personal and business tax filings as included.Later, I canceled the *********** subscription because they charged me separately for a service I never used. But I never canceled with 1-800Accountant, and I expected my full package to continue directly through them. I am writing to formally express our deep disappointment with the tax preparation services we received from 1800Accountant for the 2024 tax year.We have used your services for approximately four years. Unfortunately, we have observed a noticeable decline in service quality over the past few years. This year, we requested only one preparer handle our returns. Despite that request, and after $6000 in fees, multiple individuals handled our file, and created many errors and confusion.The initial return contained clear inaccuracies. Given our consistent financial picture over the last several years, we were surprised to learn that we owedespecially since we typically receive a refund. We spent over 10 days communicating back and forth, during time which we experienced unhelpful and sometimes hostile customer service. In the end, we sought outside assistance that led to an amended return, reducing the amount owed by approximately $7,000.After that amendment, we still lacked confidence in the returns accuracy. We consulted another tax professional, who refiled our return. That resulted in a $3,000 refund. These discrepancies reflect serious concerns with how our return was originally prepared.Your refund policy further compounds the issue. A 30-day window is not reasonable for tax preparation services, especially when clients pay in advance and may not realize errors until long after filing. Additionally, the short timeframe blocks customers from pursuing credit card chargebacks, which typically have a 180-day limit.Lastly, we were charged $800 for tax preparation services on a business that we closed years earlier, bookkeeping services, and $1100 for tax advice that we never received. We are disappointed and believe your service not only caused undue stress and lost time but nearly led to financial harm. I paid $590 to1800accountant to prepare my tax return on May 13, 2024, for the tax year of 2024. I also paid $164.00 for **************** 1040) on March 8, 2025. I sent my tax information in to be filed on Jan 22, 2025. The preparer completed my return on January 29, 2025, and had me owing $10,000. I knew this was wrong, so I gave him a call. He admitted that he made a mistake and said he will talk to his supervisor about my return. The accounting team re-did my return on April 02, 2025, and still had me owing $10,000. I refused to sign the return and had a different tax preparer file my return and I received a refund of $2,000. I requested a refund for payments I made to have my tax return prepare for tax year of 2024 and 1800accountant refused. They said they had a 30-day refund policy. They won't give any refunds if the request for the refund is passed 30-days. 1800accountant debited my business account for tax preparation months in advance. I feel this is an unfair practice and deserve my money back.Business Response

1800 Accountant reached out to me offering their services. As a brand-new business owner, I explained from the start exactly what I needed real guidance, someone to walk me through the process, help me stay on top of deadlines, and answer my questions. The salesperson at ***** Accountant assured me they specialize in startups and that this would be the perfect fit. Based on that, I agreed to give it a try. They offered a 30-day money-back guarantee, so I figured there was nothing to lose.Unfortunately, the reality was nothing like what they promised. Right away, I realized I was expected to manage everything myself keep track of deadlines, schedule appointments, and somehow know the right questions to ask. The appointments were hard to get, and if I didnt book the right ones, I missed deadlines. I spent more time researching on my own than actually getting the help I was paying for, and in the end, I still didnt have the information I needed.I wasnt thrilled with the experience and tried to cancel within the first 30 days. They convinced me to give it another try, offering another 30-day trial and promising things would be different. That was my mistake. Again, appointments were hard to come by. By the time I finally got one, it was obvious this service wasnt going to work for me. But because I had to wait so long, I missed the refund window through no fault of my ****** not upset that this wasnt a good fit. I understand not every service works for every person. What I am upset about is the lack of appointments, the constant waiting, the missed deadlines, the late fees I now owe the government, and the fact that I still had to look elsewhere for help all while being stuck paying for a service that hasnt met my needs.I just want my money back so I can hire someone who actually fits my business and helps me succeed. I contacted 1800accountant because I'm trying to get a mortgage with an unconventional loan, the loan required a *** sign off on a profit and loss sheet. So I contacted 1800accountant and asked if they could accomplish this task for me, in addition I would use them for my tax preparation for two of my LLC's. I paid 1800accountant $5199 for the service of reviewing my income for the last 12 months and having a CPA sign my mortgage form, and for tax services for 2025, with the prerequisite that this form be completed ASAP.... Now that I have paid, they are refusing to sign the form or even review my income for the last 12 months. They promised a service, charged me, the refused to complete the service.Business Response

We understand how important it was for you to obtain the required ***-signed profit and loss statement to support your mortgage application, and we sincerely apologize for the frustration and disappointment you experienced in attempting to secure this service through our firm.
We reviewed your entire account history, including all sales calls, portal communications, and case notes. Your account was created on June 6, 2025, when payment of $5,199 was processed for our Core Accounting Package, an additional business tax preparation service, and ****************** Statements for your existing LLC.
Our review confirmed that the need for compiled financial statements was discussed with our sales team prior to purchase. However, we could find no record in the calls or emails indicating that you expressly stated a required delivery timeframe or that you needed the *** sign-off on the profit and loss statement as soon as possible before completing the sale. Unfortunately, there was no expedited service charge or formal timeline noted on the order.
Once your service began, a Tax Advisory case was opened but remained unaddressed until July 2, 2025, after you had already submitted your BBB complaint and requested cancellation. During that time, your assigned Tax Advisor, ****** *., exchanged portal messages with you starting on June 24, 2025. ****** also conducted a phone call to review your submitted figures and later informed you that he could not sign off on the numbers as provided because they were incomplete or inaccurate. We recognize there was an effort to resolve this with additional communication on June 25, 2025, but ultimately it was not resolved to your satisfaction.
We acknowledge there was also a significant disconnect between our sales and advisory teams in properly communicating and delivering the compiled financial statement service you purchased. This is an internal process failure that contributed to your frustration.
After you filed your BBB complaint on June 27, 2025, you spoke with our sales agent ******** the same day and requested a cancellation. Our Retention team attempted to resolve the matter but was unable to do so to your satisfaction. As a result, a refund was processed per our 30-day refund policy. You were refunded $4,679.10, which is a full refund minus our standard 10% RAF (Resource Allocation Fee) of $519.90.
We regret that your experience did not meet your expectations or our own service standards. I retained 1-800Accountant to provide tax filing and payroll services for my business, *******************, as well as for my personal tax filings. Over a two-year period, the firm repeatedly failed to perform its contracted duties accurately or on time. As a result, I incurred IRS notices, late fees, and unauthorized debits from my business accounteven after formally terminating the relationship. These failures also compromised my personal tax filings, as I rely on income from a sole proprietorship.Despite clear documentation and repeated outreach, 1-800Accountant:Failed to remit payroll taxes on time, triggering IRS penalties and leaving multiple 941s unfiled.Produced unusable and error-ridden tax returns, requiring weeks of revision to correct internal mistakes.Ignored urgent inquiries, often going silent even as statutory deadlines approached.Submitted inaccurate and insubordinate filings for 2023 and 2024 personal returns, creating material risk.Most egregiously, the firm accessed my bank account post-cancellation to process unauthorized payroll transactions totaling $3,621.66. I was forced to dispute these charges independently. Additionally, I discovered that tax remittance funds were refunded by subcontractor Gusto without notice, prompting my direct intervention and exposing me to potential IRS action.These persistent breaches caused substantial financial, administrative, and emotional harm. As the sole employee of my business, I was left to resolve regulatory compliance failures caused by their misconduct, directly impacting my livelihood and financial stability.I am demanding full accountability, including immediate reimbursement for services not rendered and a formal acknowledgment of the damages incurred due to their gross negligence and breach of duty. Unauthorized Payroll After Cancellation:
After you canceled services, a payroll run did occur in error. As soon as you brought this to our attention, we initiated a reversal and confirmed that the funds were returned to your account. Weve since verified that your payroll services have been fully deactivated.
Refund Request & Retention Interaction:
While your request for a full refund could not be honored due to being outside of our refund policy, we recognize that parts of your experience did not meet expectations. 1800 Accountant misrepresents their service or lack thereof. I paid them 3850 to take care of my business and personal taxes and submitted the required questions for an extension online prior to the deadline. They said they did not receive it. I did not actually owe any business taxes because I am new and have not made anything. However, today due to their ineptness- I received a fine of 1470 from the *** that they should be responsible for. They do not care about their clients nor do they attend to matters as they should. Once they have completed my personal returns that I have already paid for- I want nothing further to do with them. They are supposed to be advocates for their clients and all they have done is gotten me fined by the ***. Regarding the business tax extension for 2024, our records show that you began completing the Business Extension Virtual Tax Organizer (VTO) in the client portal before the deadline, but it was not submitted. The last activity on that form was recorded on April 1, 2025, and the system status remained in “Data Collection,” meaning we could not file the extension on your behalf. On April 8, 2025, you messaged your Tax Advisor asking to confirm both your personal and business extensions. Your advisor, ***** ********, replied the same day explaining it was too late to submit a business extension at that point.
While we understand your frustration with the timing, we do our best to notify all clients of upcoming tax deadlines through portal pop-ups and email reminders. Your personal tax extension was filed with the IRS on April 9, 2025.
Regarding the IRS late-filing penalty of $1,470 you received for your 2024 S-Corporation return, our investigation found that the return was not filed by the March 15 deadline and no extension was submitted. This penalty resulted from the missed deadline. We also note that your 2023 S-Corporation return was filed late, and you did not request an extension for that year either. This is important because if the IRS granted First-Time Abatement (FTA) relief for that previous penalty, they may not approve a second abatement request now.
We also want to acknowledge a breakdown in communication on our end. When you uploaded your IRS notice, it was originally assigned to a seasonal team member who was not trained to handle IRS correspondence. As a result, you did not receive the follow-up you should have. This is not acceptable, and we sincerely apologize for that lapse.
While we cannot accept responsibility for the late filing penalty itself - since an extension was never formally submitted - we are committed to helping you request penalty relief from the IRS.
