Complaint Summary:I purchased a Travel Berkey Bundle with fluoride and arsenic reduction elements (Order #******, 04/08/2025) from USA Berkey Filters (*********, **), an official distributor. After using the filter, I experienced serious symptoms: facial rashes, swelling, fatigue, brain fog, and histamine reactions. These symptoms have occurred in every household where Ive used a Berkey filter (four times total), and they stopped once I switched to spring water.The fluoride filters contain activated alumina (Al2O3). While Berkey claims no aluminum leaches into the water, their own documents state the water may test positive for alumina. This contradiction is concerning. People with prior aluminum exposure including through vaccines may react due to immune sensitization, cross-reactivity, and cumulative aluminum burden. My reaction suggests this is not theoretical but real.I contacted the distributor, but they refused a refund despite the health impact. Berkeys filters are not NSF-certified, and their lack of regulatory approval in several states (like **********) raises red flags.This issue is not about arbitrary test results its about how the human body responds. The customer originally emailed stating he was "dissatisfied with the quality of the product" and wanted to return the product for a full refund. We replied that it was past our return window policy and only had warranty available for this product. The customer then called and stated the same reason ("dissatisfaction") to the customer service representative. After the representative advised it was out of our return window, the customer stated it caused illness, a health impact, and stated he has documentation that specifically states it's activated alumina that caused his illness. We asked the customer quesetions about the installation and he stated he followed the manual to the letter. We advised he can speak directly with the manufacturer about this and if they approved his testing/proof, we can contact us again and we can re-evaluate his request for a refund. The customer then stated he was going to file a lawsuit and proceeded to dispute the charge as an unauthorized transaction.

I reject the businesss response. Their summary contains false and misleading information.
1. They claim they asked me to contact the manufacturer this is categorically untrue. I have both the recorded phone call and all email correspondence showing that they never advised me to reach out to the manufacturer. That statement is fabricated.
2. Despite them never asking me to, I still did reach out to the manufacturer on my own. I have an ongoing thread with the manufacturer, and after pressing the issue and presenting evidence, they failed to respond to my latest message likely because they know the claim is valid. Regardless, my transaction was with LPC Survival, Ltd., not the manufacturer, and my complaint is with the business in question.
3. My dissatisfaction is not just based on subjective preference. I experienced clear and documented physical symptoms after using the product. Ive lived in four separate households with Berkey filters and unknowingly experienced the same symptoms each time. Only recently did I discover, through research and firsthand experience, that they are likely related to activated alumina exposure despite the companys claims to the contrary.
The response from LPC Survival, Ltd. is not only dismissive, but inaccurate. It downplays a serious health concern and misrepresents the facts. I am not satisfied, and I request that this complaint remain open as unresolved. I am also evaluating next steps, including additional regulatory complaints due to lack of third-party safety certification and legal action if necessary.

We are not trying to dismiss or downplay any part of your statement, but we do not have any certified staff members that are qualified to read or validate any medical reports. We do not feel comfortable asking for these types of documents, as well. Unfortunately, it is past the window of being able to return the item for any type of refund. I am rejecting this response because:I reject the companys response again because while I understand about their return policy, this is not a typical product complaint. This is a consumer safety issue, as the product in question contributed to serious health symptoms (rash, fatigue, cognitive effects) that occurred repeatedly and consistently across multiple households where this product was used.
The suggestion that I give it to a friend or family member is unacceptable and shows a complete lack of regard for public safety, especially since the product lacks NSF/ANSI certification and utilizes activated alumina without providing transparency or third-party validation. Berkey systems are banned in some states for exactly this reason.
Furthermore, it is factually incorrect that the company asked me to contact the manufacturer. I did this on my own, and the manufacturer failed to respond. My formal complaint has now been filed with the Colorado Attorney General (Reference #C-000045385) and the **** and I intend to continue pursuing action against both the distributor and manufacturer for deceptive marketing and product safety negligence.
This response from LPC Survival remains inadequate, dismissive of legitimate concerns, and does not reflect responsible business practices.

Dear Better Business Bureau,
Although you have marked this case as answered and closed it, I strongly disagree with the assessment that the business made a valid effort to resolve the matter. I have attached a document outlining my continued response to LPC Survival, Ltd. (referencing Case ID *********, including a detailed explanation of why their efforts have been wholly insufficient and dismissive.
To date, the company has refused to acknowledge the seriousness of my concerns regarding product safety and lack of certification, and has failed to offer any meaningful resolution. Their repeated, generic replies suggest no willingness to take accountability or genuinely address the core issue. Most notably, their final suggestion that I give the product to friends or familya product I believe to be unsafedemonstrates a disturbing lack of integrity and responsibility.
This is not a good faith resolution. It is a deflection.
I respectfully request that the BBB review my attached response and consider reopening the case so this matter may be properly addressed.

On April 3, 2025 I initiated an order for 2 shower filters and 2 2-pack fluoride water filters (totaling 4 fluoride filters, $136/2-pack). On April 22 I received the package. After several days I opened it and set the filters aside. 12 days after receipt I set to r using the new filters and realized I was sent only two fluoride filters, the single packages despite ordering the two-packs. I immediately texted the company. They contacted me the next day (Monday). I had to send photos of the product I received. They acknowledge that I received two single packs rather than two 2-packs, but because I did not contact them within 7 days of receipt, they will not send the product I paid for. They will however give me a 10% discount to reorder the product. I am out $136. After scouring the reviews, this is standard practice, including not replacing damaged product and only refunding a portion of returned damaged goods. I was unaware of the 7-day policy for contacting them about incomplete orders. I am rejecting this response because: I took photos of what I received, 2 single filters and sent it to them. They should have sent 2 2-pack filters. It does not matter to me that they have a 7 day policy. They did not send me a complete order. There are numerous reviews from customers indicating that their policies are not customer friendly. They are making money off of their poor service and poor policies. Customers expect to receive what was purchased. When we don't receive it the company should make it right.

I ordered two shower filters from Berkey. They sent one shower filter and one shower head. I contacted them about the mistake and that I am happy to send the mistake shower head back. They tell me no, they want me to buy the mistake or break it in order to receive the rest of my order that I paid for. I have even asked to send it all back for a refund but they want me to pay the shipping charges for their mistake. I know what they are doing. They want me to buy their mistake or show evidence that it was broken in transit so that they can file a false claim against the ****. It is a loss and we need to write it off, since it was not sold. You did not want to pay for it and we did not want to pay for shipping this item back, as it will cost us double, that is all. Since that request caused you to think it was do something wrong, you can go ahead and keep the shower head to use as you please. Just like the other complaints both 1) the website description and 2) customer service provided inaccurate information on shipping. Website description of shipping times is deceptive and portrayed as applying to all situations but it doesnt. Shipping time varies depending on location and shipping does not even start til they have the product which can vary tremendously based on my experience and the other complaints/reviews I have read . They advertise 5-7 days and even in their response in BBB they said 5-7. I ordered from them instead of ****** because it advertised 5-7 days. ****** gave a guaranteed date and would have had my water filter about a week and half ago.
I still have not received recieved it. I ordered on 11-20-24. It is 12-12-24 now.
Their advertising is misleading. They need to state on their website that 5-7 days is not guaranteed and only applies to certain states.
this is just one issue. They also offered me expedited shipping and then the manager told me they dont do that. I can send you documentation of all this. I explained I needed the water asap. The info I recieved from the different **** all contradict each other. Most importantly they state 5-7 days and its been over 3 weeks.

this is the overall misleading and contradictory information Ive had to navigate during my purchase and inquiry on shipping.
I called that Friday before 2 pm to get the expedited and ***** put me on hold for 15 min. She couldnt even get through to shipping to request an expedite on my behalf.
then I couldnt understand why it couldnt be expedited on Monday before it was shipped out. Then I emailed the manager who stated you guys dont do expedited shipping as if it was never offered or mentioned to me.

Can I escalate this matter to a supervisor at BBB. I responded to the last request for info though it was not made clear how I should. So I do t feel that the case should be closed.

They sent water bottles they know are bad, then told me I had to contact Berkey for a manufactures warranty. Berkey said they cant return my money because the distributor got my money. The distributor says they cant take the bottle back because I used it(upon receipt when I saw that it leaked) and the second one I can return if I pay postage and a restocking fee. They wouldnt let me talk to the ** and lied saying Id get a call from ** and now theyre saying due to high volume of calls, it will be next week. When I pressed for the ** email, they said the ** is not there and they cant give me a higher *** email, etc. The last woman I talked to, *****, said her personal bottles leak too, but at least the water is good. I got the bottles for a trip Im taking in 2 weeks, and Ive now been forced to purchase bottles from Berkeys competitors. I simply want my money back. I was out of the country and missed your timeline but Id like you to know the answer they gave you was the same one they gave me which doesnt resolve the matter in a satisfactory manner.
they sold me a defective product they admitted they knew was defective and refused to give my money back. Instead, they want to charge me a restocking and postage fee for the one I didnt open and force me to file a warranty claim with the manufacturer on the one I tested as they say its now used.
Its a scam. Its wrong and they are losing more than an excellent customer but a large circle of influence.
They never contacted me as promised after I asked to speak with a manager nor did they try to contact me after you contacted them. Its a scam and they arent honest.
I am not satisfied and Ive lost $100. But they have already lost more and dont even realize it their shortsightedness. So be it.

I am filing a complaint on behalf of the company due to the lack of customer service and also not providing the purchased items. On 12/26/23 three items were purchased from this website. I had only received the stand and the Berkey filter. This was a gift from my mother. She had made multiple call attempts with no resolution. I had contacted them on 2/2/24 with no response yet. I love my berkey, but all I want is the $23 spout which was never sent within the packaging. Date of transaction 7/19/23 for $330.30 bought water filter as advertised at www.usaberkeyfilters.com to filter our water at our remote island camp in central *****. It is advertised to "purify water". Delayed in the testing of the filter as it was picked it up and could not get it to work by my brother and I arrived the following month and found it was not working - the water was cloudy. We found a blog on their website regarding that they knew of an issue with the filter for some water sources and suggested to test with pure spring water. The spring water ran clear so the conclusion was that for some reason it did not work with our source water that it was bought for. Upon our return from our camp I notified the company. My reading of the warranty as listed on their website, seemed that their would be no issue. After many phone calls and lack of response and the few responses not interested in assisting us we are now filing this complaint. On 09/14/23 I purchased some water filters through the companies website www.usaberkeyfilters.com. They showed in stock but the website advised shipping was delayed and orders would ship within 2 weeks. I was fine with that. After the 2 weeks passed and nothing shipped I contacted the merchant and they advised there were manufacturing delays. A couple days later in 10/2023 I received a email stating my order would ship in 5-7 business days. No order shipped. I contacted the company via text and they told me that I had to send an email which I did on 10/21/2023 and have still not received a response or credit and they told me that my cancellation was only a request and not guaranteed. Purchased 2 ******* Water filters on 9/13/23 for the amount of $315.40. The website indicated they were in stock. I received an order confirmation #******., stating the order was being processed. After not receiving my product or notice of shipment by 9/25/ 2023. I called the number listed on their website. No one answered, I sat on hold for a few minutes and it goes to VM. I sent a message on the site and I received a text stating the order would be out in **** business days. Today on the 13th business day I reached out, and exactly the same, no answer, reached out on Chat on their site and received another text, It will be out in **** business days.
