1 starWe picked up our rental car on October 18 at *****************, we started our drive from ********* to ***********, ************* when we got about 30 minutes outside the city and realize the air conditioning in the car was not working. I called customer service who assured me that I could stop at any Avis location and swap out the car we detoured to the closest Avis location and was told that they had no available vehicles. I called customer service back and they told me my best option was to return to *********, which wouldve caused us an additional two hour delay and exchange the vehicle **************** then help me set up a replacement vehicle at ***************************************, which was on our way, but due to traffic we were not able to pick up that car And still make the wedding event we needed to be at. When I called customer service back and told them I did not have time to stop at *******************************. I was assured that I could pick up a vehicle at a local *********** location on Saturday and just a call back Saturday morning. I called Saturday morning and was told that there were no vehicles available in *********** so my husband and I had to make a two hour round-trip drive to ******** ******* to exchange the Rental. Weve asked to extend our rental 4 hours and continue to get the run around. This whole experience has been awful.Review fromJennifer/Jeffrey C

1 starWe rented with Avis from *************************************. We were told they were not open late when calling Avis ***************** but when we arrived at the airport they were open at 11:45pm. So we had made arrangements to have a hotel room and ordered an **** when we landed. That was disappointing but we continued on our plan. We asked for a late checkout thinking we might be able to stay until noon to pick up our rental our reservation was at 1pm but the hotel only gave us until 11:30. We jumped into the hotel shuttle back to the Avis counter. Let them know we were there for our reservation and the lady who helped us was very nice. She checked us in and said our car was not ready yet so I asked when does the car need to be returned and she said your reservation time is 1pm. We sat down and waited for them to clean the car. At about 12:15pm the car was ready and off we went toward our next destination, ************ where we were to turn the car the next day. The return at the *********************************** went smoothly, so I thought. They told me to sign the pad in recognition of returning the car, I asked if everything was okay and the man said yes fine. The car was great and filled up to the right amount. I said great and signed. They never said they were charging us for returning the car late by one hour or that they were charging us for an additional day!! The charge we agreed to $117 was charged but then they charged us $178 too! We called Avis customer service and the lady told us we returned the car late so the charges we valid even though the agent in ******* told us the return time was 1pm. Never use them, they lie and will do anything to cheat you!Review fromBrant M

1 starI rented a car in *********** ********** when I arrived at the location they didn't have the car I rented and we were given a dodge truck for the same price. The truck kept breaking down and eventually wouldn't start at all. We immediately called customer service which directed me to call Roadside Assistance, I called Roadside Assistance and gave them the location of the vehicle and the directions I received from customer service which was to have the vehicle towed to *********************. Roadside Assistance first of all it took them a week or more to come get the vehicle and then they towed the truck to ***** OK to the Enterprise rent a car center. And now they have took almost $5000 out of my bank account today.Review fromAli E

1 starI am deeply disappointed with how Avis/Budget has handled my complaint regarding a forced insurance purchase and unsatisfactory service during my rental from their *********, ********** location on August 27, 2024. Despite filing a complaint through their customer service in August, it has been nearly two months with no resolution. Every response I receive is the same: that my case has been forwarded for review and that I should wait further.I have been extremely patient, but after almost two months of no progress, I will proceed with disputing the charge through my credit card company. This experience has been frustrating and will certainly affect my decision on whether to rent from Avis/Budget again in the future.Review fromRaymond K

1 starAvoid at all costs unless you want to pay for the maintenance of their defective vehicles. Rented a car that had a defective battery and had to request service through Avis' helpline. A week after the rental, Avis sends a letter indicating that they would be passing on their mechanical breakdown costs for the defective battery to me. Reaching out to customer service was a pointless process that eventually led to a slow response stating that their careful investigation indicated that the defect occurred after leaving the rental lot, so it would be the renter's responsibility to pay for the all mechanical failures regardless if it's a result of wear and tear from prior renters and poor maintenance by Avis. Would highly advise considering any other option that maintains their vehicles and doesn't charge the customer to maintain their fleet.Review fromConnie S

1 starImpossible to get in touch with a human on the phone for lost and found. Not sure if this issue is specific to ****** location or across the board. Can't even reach a voicemail, just puts you on hold and then hangs up. Opened a lost item ticket and when I went to check on the status, the ticket had been deleted (not closed) in the system. Impossible to reach the local front desk and of course the customer service **** say they cannot help with lost items or reaching the local office personnel.Review fromQueen J

1 starI rented a car to drive for **** for several months at the ***********, ** location. There were numerous issues ranging from billing to mechanical. ******, the manager, gets 5-stars. However the owner (?) ****** gets a one-star. This location is independently owned and operated and doesn't positively represent the Avis ******* emailed about the lights needing to be replaced on the car and was told to purchase them and replace them myself.I declined because that isnt in ****s rental agreement. ****** then sent me a series of harassing and aggressive emails filled with bad grammar and spelling. He deflects, makes excuses, and comes across as dishonest. He told me to return the vehicle immediately. I currently drive for **** full-time and was blessed to take my business somewhere else. I read other reviews online for this location and others have had similar experiences.****** needs lessons in leadership, operations management, written communication, and empathy.Review fromBrian H

1 starI changed to Avis from ***** because they were cheaper on our last few rentals, what a mistake. I have had issues with the vehicles being dirty and in poor condition. In addition I am preferred so was supposed to be able to skip the counter, but that did not work either, because they did not have the correct vehicle for us and it was locked. Then the most recent issue happened today, that is the deciding factor for never using them again. I reserved a SUV, prepaid for a trip with some friends of ours. They were arriving a day earlier into ******* than us. I called to let Avis know that my friend was picking up the vehicle, but they would not allow me to add his name. They said I have to pick it up since I am paying for it and it is my account. So I said to rebook with his name as primary, when they went to do that they said the vehicle is no longer available, even though my reservation had the vehicle for the same time frame. I since cancelled completely and went with a different company that had no issues. What ever happened to customer service and a good customer experience. ********************** needs to take some lessons on this.Review fromGrant P

1 starThe morning of my 8am reservation (which had been made a week in advance) I start getting text messages from an employee at the Avis rental location that my vehicle was returned late and is not rentable - they ask if I can wait to get the vehicle until 9am. At 10am I respond to the employee asking for an update on my vehicle and saying that I am heading over to get my vehicle, or another available. Their response: "0 cars available".I ask this employee texting me for a refund - they do not respond and keep saying they are searching for vehicles. I call Avis, sit on hold for 20 minutes, and get a refund for my reservation on my own.I would have preferred getting poked in the eye with a sharp stick. Such horrible service. Don't expect to get a car on the day of your reservation when renting from Avis.Review fromKatie N

2 starsWhen I prepay for a rental car and then get an email stating "your CAR has been reserved" I expect to have a rental car when I arrive at the airport; however, on my recent trip I was told there were no cars available despite my prior planning and with no rpior notifcation from Avis stating there would be an issue. Apparently, per the lady at the desk, you only "reserve the price not the car." This is a 100% misleading business practice that caused me inconvenience and increased costs as I had to find an **** and another rental car on short notice with limited time. On their behalf, I will say that getting fully reimbursed was an easy process and much appreciated.
