1 starRented an Avis car thru Expedia. Went to pick it up at the airport. No one at the Avis desk. Had to go out to the garage. Waited 40 minutes in the November cold to get the car. When I went to leave the garage, again no one there. After honking and waiting finally check me out. That in it self is a enough for a complaint but it gets much worse. After driving 3 hours we stop to eat, when we came out the car had a flat tire. There was no spare. It had some kind of inflation device that didn't work. Finnally Avis said they would tow it back. We had to contact a relative to pick us up and rented a car from another company. Over the next few day I spoke with the people from Avis and they said all was good and I had a zero dollar ******** and sent me an e-receipt. Three weeks later is see and my credit card was charged $1129.40. I received no notification from Avis or bill. I called them, absolutly no help. All they did was read from prepared scripts and send me in circles. Then convienently their computer system went down. The $1129.40 was for towing? Towing that I did not ask for or authorize. I was treated poorly and basically charged for the towing behind my back. My advice is to avoid Avis at all costs.Avis Rent A Car

Dear ******* ******,
In regards to the aforementioned BBB complaint, thank you for giving us the opportunity to address your concerns.
Avis values the relationship that we have with our travelers and always strives to do the right thing. We apologize for the inconvenience this matter has caused.
Avis does not wish to deceive anyone we do our best to make sure that all pertinent information is made available to our customer within the terms and conditions of the rental contract. By way of explanation, at the check-out/start of each rental the rental sales agents is required to offer for a nominal fee the option to accept LDW, SLI or our Roadside safety net (***) coverage. The *** particular coverage eliminates roadside assistance cost such as; flat tires, jump starts & key lock outs and towing that may incur during the rental. The customer does not have the option to involve their personal roadside assistance provider due to liability concerns. Upon review of your rental details our records revealed that the *** coverage was declined. Therefore, because a 3rd party service partner was dispatched a cost was incurred and that fee is now your responsibility based on the terms of the rental contract. In light of the above information the charge assessed we found no errors in the charges rendered.
Thank you for allowing us to assist you.
Sincerely,

1 starI prepaid a rental with Avis Rent a Car. After I returned it FULL of fuel they charged me 148 and change for a refueling charge. I called them to dispute the charge and they asked for receipt. I dont know who keeps paper receipts anymore. I sent pictures of my banking app with screenshots of the transaction. What gets me is that I was running late for my flight and still stopped for gas because I wanted to avoid the charge. To see the amount charged is infuriating. I figure they do this to see how many people take the time to dispute the charges. Im incredibly busy with work but definitely made time to call and dispute. This is the LAST time I will ever rent from AVIS.Avis Rent A Car

1 starNEVER RENTING FROM AVIS AGAIN! (NEGATIVE STARS IF I COULD)-*********************** AVIS-We paid in advance and when we got to the counter, we were told it would be ANOTHER $250 "fee" to be paid on the spot before we could get our rental. We were not aware of this "extra" fee and were also not told AVIS would take their time about giving our money back! Once we got the car -IT WAS SO SATURATED WITH CIGARETTE SMOKE. We nearly choked to death. The "not helpful at all" man at the exit gate (who was the ONLY person around) didn't even bother to note the disgusting smoke smell, or that the car was not washed, in our agreement. Second issue - It's been a week since we've returned the car and I'M STILL WAITING FOR MY $250 that's being held hostage. I just called customer service and was told it could take up to 2 weeks or 30 days if I had used a credit card. I asked to speak to a manager and was told, "that's the policy and they are going to tell you the same thing" I was also told that I would get a call back from the "manager" - I'm still waiting. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! I'm also writing this under the BBB website because AVIS makes it impossible to contact them. You have to log in just to get to customer service! The car was returned a week ago-WHAT IS THE HOLD UP? GIVE ME BACK MY MONEY!Avis Rent A Car

1 starI've rented about 4 cars through Avis and was supposed to receive a 10% amazon gift card back for each of my rentals. I have received no such thing. I've spoken to about 3 representatives and none of them are helpful. I've been placed on hold for long periods of time, and even hung up on. This is absolutely demeaning for the amount of money that I have spent with this company.Avis Rent A Car

1 starI've been a Preferred Avis customer for many years and have always had good service but this time registers as possibly the worst experience I have ever had anywhere.I had rented a car in November and unbeknownst to me, was charged an extra $130.00 for ******************** Since this required explanation for my corporate-card expense report, I called customer service only to learn the charge was fraudulent - that it was a 2nd ****** that had been added. The problem?!!!!!!I didn't add a 2nd ******! Furthermore, the 2nd ****** added isn't anyone I know - or is remotely related to me - uhm not even the same last name?!!!!!!Avis customer service flatly refused to credit the fraudulent charge citing POLICY. They insisted that the 2nd ****** "WOULD ONLY BE ADDED AFTER I APPROACHED THE COUNTER WITH THE 2ND ******** Since I don't know who the person is I guess that means I'm LYING???!!!This is absolutely unacceptable customer treatment. I will no longer look to Avis for rental.Avis Rent A Car

1 starZero stars better reflects the deceptive and fraudulent nature of this business. In review of other complaints, it appears I am one of hundreds of people that got scammed by Avis, at the ***************** alone. On the day of pick-up, I specifically declined all insurance options. The agent at the desk even asked me what insurance I already had, and I declined. Despite this, I later discovered that insurance, roadside assistance, and an upgrade had been added to my rental without my consent. After calling customer service, I realized this was a systematic scam. Adding services without customer consent is not an accident; it's an intentional deception and scam. As consolation (and admission of guilt), they offered a 50% off one of the insurances that I DECLINED, resulting in a pittance compared to the extra $558 I was wrongfully charged in addition to the amount I had already prepaid ($451). To make matters worse, every time I speak to a customer service agent, I am sent another bill, each time with an INCREASING amount owed! ($1010, then $1753, now OVER $2000), nearly quadrupling the original prepaid amount! I plan on contacting my lawyer about class-action lawsuit.Avis Rent A Car

Dear ******* *******,
In regards to the aforementioned BBB complaint, thank you for giving us the opportunity to address your concerns.
Avis values the relationship that we have with our travelers and always strives to do the right thing. We apologize for the inconvenience this matter has caused.
As you are aware the signed rental agreement shows the upgrade cost and coverage options were noted on the contract, the additional cost is included in the estimated total, and we show the renters signature appears in acceptance of these terms. We are disappointed that you feel you were manipulated into signing for these items. Although we do not doubt your veracity, our decisions are based on the facts at hand. The rental agreement was signed and the additional services were provided by Avis. In the event of an accident, damage to the rental car, third party property, etc., your financial responsibility would have been greatly reduced if not voided completely. Because of this we are unable to remove the full cost of these options.
Our records show that out **************** Team has already made the following adjustments. We apologize but again we are not able to void the charges completely.

1 starIf I could leave negative stars I would. Avis rented me a defective vehicle that literally cut the engine while I was driving 60 mph on a highway. I was in an unsafe situation on the side of the highway and called for help and the only options they gave me were to wait 10+ hours for a tow truck or drive the dangerous vehicle 2 hours out of my way back to the **************** to pick up another vehicle. This fiasco doubled the length of the trip and took years off my life from the stress. I beg you to save yourself the trouble and rent from a reputable rental company that helps their customers. To top it all off after putting me through all of this they would not even refund the money and customer service continuously lied to me and told me I would be refunded and then denied the refund without informing me. This company is putting dangerous vehicles on the road and risking people's lives.Avis Rent A Car
