Guy shows up in my door claiming to work for Pepco. He had a clipboard with what looked like a Pepco document. He said he was there to confirm my account, and asked for my latest bill. He had an IDT energy badge and t-shirt (I am new in town and don’t know providers, …). I asked if he worked for Pepco even though his shirt says otherwise, he said yes. He asked for a bill from Pepco. He took down my information. I was in touch with Pepco earlier that day (today) to cancel my service (because I am moving), so I genuinely thought this was related. After taking down my info he texted me a link. When I read the text, it said your contract is ready to sign. I said ‘wait a second’, I am not going to sign anything. Why would I switch and sign a contract if I am moving. So I did not. The guy however now has my info from the utility bill and - given his sleazy salesmanship and flat out lies - can potentially use that info to switch me, even though I did not sign… even though I did not and do not consent. This sales tactic is a complete scam. It should be criminalized.

On Oct. 23, an agent from IDT Energy knocked on my door and said that the building was going to switch the supply company, so he needed me to sign a new contract. He asked for my phone number, ComEd account number, and the recent bill. After he left, I called the manager of my building, and he said it was spam, but I had already provided my information and consent to change my service.

On October 15, a man knocked on the door of my apartment claiming to be from ComEd, and he told me that rates were changing on my electrical bill. He asked to see my last bill (which had my account number on it) and then brought up a contract on my phone to sign, which I did. He showed a badge and directly claimed he was an employee of ComEd, but the new contract was for a different provider IDT energy. I didn't consent to changing providers (knowingly) and I have no idea what was in the contract I signed.

I received a phone call from an unknown number. Upon answering the call it was immediately terminated after I said "hello". I then dialed out to that phone number to find out who was calling and spoke with a very nasty phone agent claiming to be from an energy company. I asked the agent to remove me from the calling list to which she advised there is no list, the calls are automatic. After about 2mins of pointless conversation I attempted to get the agents name, company name, and agent ID #. I asked for the information several times before the agent disconnected. As I attempted to reach out again I noticed the call was unable to go through because I was now blocked from calling which was strange to me because the agent informed me there was no way to be removed from the call list etc.

So, I reached out again from another phone to attempt to get the information I was requesting. After getting the company name from the new agent they informed me the call would be terminated because they can not speak with me. I advised the agent I would be reporting this fraudulent company.

A representative knocked on our door on Sept 16th at approximately 615 at night. He said he was here about our utilities and needed to see our meter. He said BGE would have notified us he was coming and maybe we missed the email. He showed me his badge which said he was from Arcadia. He asked to see our last BGE bill to show me where it said he was coming. He pointed to the area where it talks about supply price comparison and said he was here about our bill needing to be lower because of the cost of energy and MD being a free energy state? He again stated that BGE had told us he was coming. I said I wasn’t from here and didn’t understand. He said he just needed my signature to lower our bill. He let me sign even though I told him it was under my wife’s name and not mine. He scrolled through all the consents really fast and just told me to sign. I feel like I was tricked into signing up for this, he mis represented that BGE had sent him. I didn’t realize we had changed suppliers until we received a letter in the mail a couple of days later. The letter says we switched to IDT Energy. This was not authorized by the owner of the account, and the agent misrepresented who had sent him.

A salesman from this company knocked on my door and was able to tricked my wife into signing a contract for their services. She was promised this would lower our electric bill. Not only that, this bill is in my name not hers. Since she signed up for this our electric bill has been more than double for the last 2 months than the highest it's ever been in the 5 years we've lived in our home. This company is a scam.
