Im filing this complaint regarding Chanticleer Properties and how theyre handling my security deposit for a lease that ends on July 31, 2025.Ive already informed the management team that Im moving out at the end of the lease. I wont be renewing, subletting, or going month-to-month, and I expect to be fully removed from the lease starting August **** share of the $7,000 security deposit is $1,166.67, and Ive requested that it be returned. Instead of following the proper process, the management team has told me to work it out with the incoming tenants. That makes no sense. How am I supposed to collect money from strangers Ive never metjust so they can turn around and ask the company for the exact same money they won't give me?The bigger issue is that the property management team seems to be doing the bare minimum and avoiding their actual responsibilities. Theyve claimed the deposit runs with the rental, but thats simply not true. Security deposits are tied to the leasenot the ******* my lease is ending.Theyve also implied that just because its their business policy to wait until all tenants have moved out, they can delay the return. But just because its your business policy doesnt mean it lines up with North Carolina law. The contract is over, and I need my deposit back. Just because it doesnt suit your timeline as a company doesnt mean you get to postpone my money.I need this deposit for my next apartment. Im not going to be living in this unit anymore, and I shouldnt be legally or financially tied to itor the new tenantsafter July 31. The management team is clearly trying to make things easier for themselves, but in doing so, theyre ignoring the law and my rights as a tenant. If this is how Chanticleer Properties handles something as basic as a deposit return, Im genuinely concerned about how they treat other renters across their ************ just asking that they return my share of the deposit now that my lease is ending.
