I hired College Hunks for a residential move that occurred 4/22/25. One of the workers damaged my newly painted doorframe in the condo. The lead of the crew took photos as did I. In good faith, I filed a claim with them as instructed by their email and they stated it would be reviewed. It is now approximately 6 weeks later with zero resolution and zero response to my outreach. I would like the BBB to intervene on my behalf for restitution as this will require hiring a painter again and I should not be negatively impacted financially due to their negligence. The worker continually bashed his trolley/***** into the doorframe when it was obvious it would not fit through and he needed to pick up the items. In doing so, gouges were made across the frame on both sides as well as a portion of the door. Until a professional examines, I do not know if paint alone will suffice or if some form of filler will be needed. I am disabled and cannot complete any repairs myself. I have a painter I use professionally whose minimum rate is $200 and this is what I expect to be compensated for.Business Response

A contract was signed that we are not liable for damages to walls, doors and floors as a result of moving as this can sometimes be unpreventable due to the items being moved and the spaces they are being moved into. In November 2024 I engaged College Hunks to pack and move me, ******* *****, from ************************************ B, ******************. I chose College Hunks because they had done such a good job moving a business I had worked for, including disassembling office cubicles/desks and putting them back together at the new location. At the time, I was unaware there are several College Hunks franchises. ****, an owner of what turned out to be a different franchise from the one that did the office moving, came to view my job and give me a price. Since I had not yet decided on a new apartment, I also engaged their storage service. This service included a storage pod/trailer that would hold everything they moved out of the apartment and be kept at a location they provided. A group of 3 arrived as agreed. It was the last day that I had the apartment, so it was urgent to get everything done. There was a supervisor, also named ****. I asked that the boxes be labeled; and I provided some markers.I signed a lease for a new apartment the week of Thanksgiving; and contacted College Hunks to move me in. They were available the following week; and arrived slightly late; but Cassius did text me with a notification. I had preplanned where the movers should place things, so I was able to give them quick directions. At first, they were doing as requested; but I did have to insist they put the bed together. I had to point out that the frame was upside down. Now, obviously irritated, they turned the frame around. Suddenly they got in a big hurry, and soon shoved a tablet in front of me to start signing. Instead of placing a heavy copier on to the desktop, I found it on the floor. I had to hire someone else to move the copier. During the ensuing weeks of unpacking, it became apparent that the boxes were mostly not labeled, and many items were missing and some were damaged. This client has never submitted a damage claim with us in order to allow us to process a damage claim.
Additionally, this customer had an apartment address for us to move to. However, On the day of the move, she actually didn't have a destination location, had zero plan on what to do or where to go, which caused a scramble. We had to figure out the best way to help her so that she could actually get out same day. Luckily we were able to get a storage container over to her to load into.
The client did not remain onsite during the job, she kept leaving, which doesn't allow us to have instructions when we need it. She also requested that we leave some items and to not move them. So the items that are missing, were most likely left behind at her origin, following her requests. The crew never received clear directions throughout the entire job, as she was not present, and kept changing her mind on things.
We also were doing our best to keep her job around her quoted amount because she did not want to pay much more than that. However with not being ready on move day, we would be going over her estimated amount.

On December ******* 3 employees from College Hunks arrived to move my property from one location to another. During the move my 70in TV was destroyed. The head mover ****** said the bag holding the TV fell and the TV was cracked and destroyed beyond repair. A damage claim was filed. When their representative responded I was offered $450 as compensation. This is not nearly enough to purchase a 70in TV. Their argument is that this was the value of the TV as of today. I believe I should be fully compensated so that I can afford to purchase a replacement TV. The cost of a 70in is $900.00. I would like a refund in this amount. No one at this company has offered a sincere apology. In fact, when I asked how long it would be before I could expect to hear back, the mover responded "That's above my pay grade". We are truly sorry for the damage to the customer's tv, which is why we offered her an amount above and beyond our contractually agreed upon coverage amount. Prior to every move, we offer each customer additional valuation coverage options if they wish to cover their items at a higher valuation in the case of any damage. In this case, the customer declined the extra coverage and chose the minimum coverage which is 60 cents per pound per item. Despite this however, we offered her an amount above her coverage option, an amount that will buy her the same tv that was damaged.Customer Answer

I have reviewed the business' response regarding complaint ID ******** and am satisfied with this resolution. The new TV did cost $550, plus an additional $70 for a warranty. However to cut down on prolonging this matter I feel it would be easier to accept the offer given by the company. It is my hope that staff will be more care while moving in the future.

3/20/2024 We paid a deposit of $200 to put our belongings in their **************** 3.22.2023. I saw a bid of ***** for the move, What we found out late r that unloading is extra. Another $ 1000 per container. $6K total. Things sat outside. They dont have a warehouse. Got 1st. container 6.28.2023 to new house Our ***** ***** dining & living room set, inlaid bedroom set, 550lb table saw & boxes, albums loaded into MI Box container. Nothing was tied down.Next MiBox they loaded office furniture, 350lb bandsaw, a ****** piano, a cart full of power tools. Again they told us, "We are going to tie things down & brace things. We have to do that." Not 1 thing was secured.They offered $250 at .60 per pound for damaged yard tools . They never got back to me, didnt return emails or phone calls to adjust 1st offering. After seeing 2 containers at their warehouse, which was the grass on the side of the lot, I told *************************, franchise owner, " I will be taking pictures when your crew opens the container. I scheduled the drop off of last 2 containers, they dropped off containers but didnt send labor to unload. ************** told me he left a message. No message just a phone number telling me he will not work for us. I had to find new laborers myself. I got lucky. Sunshine movers sent a crack crew the next day. It took 3 guys 2 hrs. to unload 2 containers.Damage caused by College Hunks. Solid cherry living room &dining room sets dented & scratched up. ***** ***** armoire has a crushed side rail from a clamp that was over tightened. ****** piano has numerous deep scratches all over it and the music book stand was crushed. I was looking for your responsebut I was unable to find it in windows 11 as I was a windows 10 user, So what has kept us so busy(and I will keep it short.
We moved in ***************************** in august. Our 12 year old started 6th grade in Sept.from *********** with a bad move. We had blabk mold hidden behind the basement walls, ******** tried sticking it to us. I had overdone it correcting bad remodeling and My wife was diagnosed with Thymic cancer right after Christmas.
If I could have a day(ONE) day I could write a review and possible help keep someone else from falling for these fraudsters

I had a labor appointment to move two refrigerators.
1) While the team was professional, they were extremely loud, I could hear their entire conversation while they were in the basement. Laughing and joking around is fine... unless it's interfering with performing your duties which it definitely was because it took them forever to simply remove the refrigerator doors.
2) About an hour and a half later, they started to move the fridge but told me that they can't get it through the doorway because two pieces stick out too far and the screws to remove them are stripped. The team leader called his supervisor and he offered to have them put the fridges back the way they were and charge me the travel fee plus a half hour of labor.
3) They went about putting the both refrigerators back together. By this point I think they were more focused on getting off and rushing to finish because they completely botched putting both refrigerators back together. One fridge had screws loose and an entire piece missing from the door, which I found on the floor. The other fridge had wires hanging down and completely unattached. I called the company to report it and was told I'd get a call back. I didn't.
4) I called back the next day and again was told I'd get a call back but this time I wasn't letting it go. I eventually got the number to someone at the local office and he said that they would send someone out to see what the issue was because not only does one fridge not cool now, but I also found a hole in the floor of my basement where they must've dropped the fridge because the concrete is dented in.
5) The screws they claimed were stripped are not stripped at all, they just aren't phillip's screws! I went into my Walmart toolbox, found a screwdriver that matched the screws which looked like a star shape, and with zero effort the screws came out. They lied. None of the screws were stripped. NONE. I want my money back.Business Response

Contact then regarding moving a safe. 29" x 25" x 38". I sent photos and measurements and was told this was something they could do for me. I was told there would be 3 people being sent out. My appointment was on Saturday 8:00AM 29 April 2023. Well at 9:36AM I did finally get a call back from customer service and was told my appointment window was 8:00-10:00 AM. I am assuming this was the first appointment for the day and I did get a text at 10:25 that they were in route and would be there in 25 minutes. Two guys got out of a truck with a ramp not a lift gate and no proper equipment to perform this move. I was told that they could do the move on Monday afternoon and that was not acceptable to my schedule. They wasted my time, the employees time and the company time by being incompetent when providing a quote and scheduling the move. I have no confidence they can perform this move and will no longer use or recommend this business. You don't get a second chance to make a first impression.Business Response

Unfortunately, this customer portrayed his needs incorrectly. He was set up as a general labor job because he requested for the safe to be moved from the garage to the walkout basement. This is a completely different service than a full service move. We hired them to do a move from Dardenne Prairie to Troy, MO on Aug 19, 2022. In the process, several items were damaged, and a claim was immediately filed. However, they rarely, if ever respond to emails, and have yet to reimburse us for any of the destroyed items. In addition to this, the move estimate was 4 hrs, it took 7.5 hours because they spent 1.5+ hrs attempting to get a treadmill upstairs (damaging a wall in the process) and then ended up not moving it (after I told them to leave it because we were paying by the hour). During that time, several of the movers were standing around doing nothing (there were other items still to be moved). We ended up renting a truck and paying someone to help us get the treadmill moved ourselves. Items damaged and reported are a refrigerator (HUGE dents, ripped water line, missing door handle screws), a destroyed bed (3 of 4 drawers completely unusable), missing part for another bed, pedestal drawers for washer/dryer twisted and now non-functional, a damaged floor vent. There were other things discovered after the move, but haven't bothered to file a claim, as they were minor compared to the major damage.Business Response

The client also reversed her charges for the move, therefore has not paid for our services, therefore no longer has a damage claim with us.
