J& L towing took my vehicle from my primary residence, despite proper decal/signage on car. They are aware they are required to provide photo evidence of the violation (i.e. parking permit related towing), yet they refused to provide that information once I contested the claim I didn't have a permit. After refusal to show evidence, and changing up their reason for towing from not being able to clearly 'read' the tag to 'the tag not being there', I realized this is not a trustworthy contractor/vendor. After I paid to get my car, I found the tags on the floor/by the car seat, which is explained having the car lifted and towed. I am asking for the $175 refund due to improper towing and failure to substantiate the reason for towing.Initial Complaint

On July 4, 2024, I went to **********, located in The Shops at ****************, to grab a few items for the holiday. I was in the store for no more than 15 minutes, and upon coming out, my car had been towed. My vehicle was towed by J&L Towing and Recovery, ******************************************************************************, **************. The reason for the tow was because they (J&L Towing and Recovery) stated that my handicap placard was not hanging up. In addition, the company stated that even though my tags state DISABLED VETERAN, not all disabled veterans are handicap. However, there are several things to note:1. I am a 100% disabled veteran with disabled veteran tags, and per the ******************************* (***) website. The first clue for the individual who towed my car should have been that my tags have a permanent sticker on them (tag attached).2.J&L states that my placard was not hanging, which could be fair; however, theyve never taken into consideration that my placard could have fallen, which was actually that case upon receiving my vehicle. The parking placard to my vehicle also states permanent (attached photo). If the company would have let me into my car, I could have shown everything, but I was forced to pay $175.00 (Release invoice attached).4.J&L failed to give proper guidance as it relates to requesting a show cause hearing. With all of the proof I have, this would have made J&L liable for more than the amount I paid to retrieve my ********** is clear that this was a predatory towing practice; it is also clear that the company is not knowledgeable on disabled veteran license plates. Moreover, I am submitting this information to file a complaint against J&L Towing and Recovery, and for company to return funds in the amount of $175.00 + the amount that would have been paid had I been given the proper direction for a hearing.Initial Complaint

My car was parked in a handicap parking spot. I have a permanent handicap tag due to my disability. I absolutely hung the tag on the mirror before exiting the car. I returned to the spot, where I parked my car 5 minutes later and it was gone. Upon calling the police department and the towing company, I was told I would still have to pay the fee to get my car out of the impound lot. I explained multiple times that my tag was hanging and probably fell, but to no avail was told I would still have to pay. After paying the $175 and receiving my car I did a thorough search, and noticed someone went through my personal belongings. Items that were in my bag on the back seat were now in the front, and I had $ in the drawer of the car and it is missing. I am seeking a full refund because I do have a permanent tag, and it's not my fault if the tag fell, just like it's not my fault I have a disability.Initial Complaint

I live in a townhouse on *********************. I have been residing at the same address for over 25 years. I parked my ***** *** in the usual spot that I've been parking all these years. We are given parking permits( hang tags) by the HOA that has to be visible when parking in a permit only spot. I had my parking permit tag hanging in my car. In spite of its clear visibility, they towed my car at around 5:30 am., today, 7/27/2023. I saw my car being towed and I ran out but they had left already. I called the towing company immediately. ( J & L Towing Company in Upper Marlboro, Maryland) When I asked them why they towed my car, they said because the permit was laminated and it looked fake, I showed them my driver's license and told them that I live there and and that I had laminated the parking permit so it could be sturdy and hang well. But they refused to release my car. They said I could not get my car unless I paid $175 , which I did. I want the money back because it was illegal what they did. They came and stole my car from my parking lot. I talked to other neighbors who have had similar experiences by the same towing company. On the other hand, some neighbors told me that they lost their tag and don't even have a tag, but their car wasn't towed. The resolution I want is my $175 refunded to me immediately.Initial Complaint

Tried so hard to not leave a review of this nature but I don't like when my intelligence is being played with.. my car I purchased was towed for no tags after sitting under a car cover unbothered for a year total fees was $665 plus admin fees with city of forest heights of $150.. no problem got caught slipping so gotta pay up.. I asked the lott guy to see my vehicle before I paid the 665 he advised me they do not do that I had to pay to even see the car which is what I did. My problem is my vehicle was destroyed by the careless tow truck driver ..and when I tried to resolve the problem I've been getting the run around and this evening I was told my vehicle was already damaged when they towed it but they took no pictures of the car before towing it to prove that..... I have pictures from the last 2 months of vehicle being checked out after official purchase no damage I picked it up on 10/24 and it's basically total loss because of J&L negligence and none skilled drivers and refusal to correct the obvious damaged caused by tow driver not properly releasing the steering wheel or using the proper equipment ..Initial Complaint

On the morning of October 8, 2022, between the hours of five and six am I was experiencing breathing problems from. The breathing problem was from a car accident that I was involved in on Saturday evening Oct 1, 2022. I woke up and was having pain in my chest and under my left arm. I woke my daughter up and she got up and got dressed to take me to the hospital. She then went to get her son ready and to get the car because I was having difficulty breathing and walking because of the pain in my left upper side. She then left out to go bring the car up to the building *********************************. of the ****** Apartments. She came back into the house to get her son and to help me finish getting dressed. When we went to leave the tow driver of J & L Towing Company preceded in towing the vehicle. Mind you an apt hanger and a handicap placard were there also. This is the second time they have towed my daughter's car. The first time they claim no hanging tag was present and it was. My daughter was driving a rental 2022 ****** ******. Grey in color this time. I think he is doing this to put money in his own pockets. I will call back and speak to a supervisor or owner of the company.
