Business is a cleaning service that has been cleaning our house for two years. Approximately one month ago, they broke a sliding glass door in bathroom. The business owner called to notify us and stated that he would pay for the damages through insurance. We obtained a quote from a local glass company, who quoted for exact replacement of the door. After the quote was obtained, cleaning business owner stated that price was an overcharge, and was refusing to pay, despite the quote being the cheapest option available. Business owner was exceptionally argumentative and insulting throughout the encounters. He continued to refuse to hold up his end of the agreement.

The shower unit installed was old, and an inexpensive brand. It was in disrepair. It no long fit in the shower area properly. The tempered glass sliding door exploded after we had cleaned it and my employee of 15 years was closing it. She received cuts when it happened. We were not at fault and the customer was told this when we spoke on the day it happened. The door couldn't be replaced because of the condition and age of the shower unit. The customer expected us to pay for a new, high end shower unit which would have been unreasonable even if we were at fault. We are sorry to lose this customer's business, but felt he was trying to take advantage of the situation. We would have shared in the cost of repair to keep him happy, but that wasn't enough to satisfy him.

I am rejecting this response because:

To state that the door was in disrepair is inaccurate and dishonest. The door was in perfect working condition, without damage. At no point in time had you inspected the door, either pre-or post damage.

With respect to the claim that we attempted to take advantage of the situation, we had the repair company price out options for an exact replacement of the sliding glass door. The wheel tracks on the door were also damaged and required replacement. We obtained multiple pricing options, and selected the cheapest one.

You originally stated that the replacement would be managed by your insurance, however, we never heard from your insurance adjuster.

With respect to the claim that we were not satisfied with your offer to share the cost of the replacement, you offered $500 which was not even a third of the cost of the door. This equated to a little over one month of cleaning fees.

We have cleaned this home for 2 years and one of my best and longest tenured employees cleans the bathroom. She did nothing different on this cleaning than any of the others, the door breaking is a result of age and condition, not us. I have pictures and videos from my employees. The unit has gaps between the tile wall and unit, it is flimsy and old. The customer didn't replace the door, he wanted to have an insurance company replace the entire unit with a new high-end unit. I try to be fair, but when someone attempts to take advantage, I am less so. We have been in business for over 20 years and our reputation is excellent. I wish this customer the best but consider this closed.
