I want to warn prospective buyers of this builder’s deceptive practices. To be concise, my wife and I had entered into a contract to have a house built in Oakland Hall in Prince Frederick, Maryland. While we experienced shortages on some optional items for our house, it was not anything concerning…until the week before our building permit was approved. Out of nowhere, Quality Built Homes contacted us and stated that we needed to pay an extra $50,000 over the price in our contract to have the house built due to “increase cost for building supplies”. When we asked to have the estimates showing the increase costs for building supplies, we were flatly rebuffed and told they were “not going to provide that” and either “pay the additional increase or terminate the contract”. The heartbreak we felt at having our dream home ripped away at the last second by a builder essentially engaging in extortion was profound. Obviously we felt we had no choice but to walk away from such a clear attempt at profiteering. I warn other buyers….seek a different builder. We have since learned that this is not the first time this builder has engaged in this tactic. I urge you, AVOID THEM! Please, learn from our loss.
