    The plumber goes outside the scope of work to locate violations in the home and reports the violations to the County. This appears to look like predatory behavior. It needs to stop.

    As a licensed Master Plumber/Gas Fitter, I provide a complimentary check for gas leaks/plumbing issues and report any violations to the client indicating issues that should be resolved by any licensed plumbing contractor. This is to minimize house explosions, backflow health issues, or any other safety or health violations. If it is a gas leak on the meter side, we report this to the appropriate gas company for quick resolution without any cost to the client. If the issue is on the client side, we report it to the homeowner for resolution, but, if it's severe enough, we would contact the fire department or County if it is a public health issue. This complimentary service check is for the safety and welfare of all our clients but they can contract with another plumber.
    Regarding testable backflows, AACounty contacts homeowners yearly by mail as required by Federal, State and local laws on County's own initiative.. It is also evident mailings have increased from the County's backlog.
