I contacted several companies through Yelp in early October to obtain estimates for a full condo renovation at the address cited. ****************** offered the best price for the work to be done, which included removal of a wall, a few cabinets, painting all rooms, switching out faucets and lighting fixtures, and trash removal. An agreement was reached based on the itemized list of work we sent over and I paid $950 as a deposit to begin work on the $4950 quote. ******* told me that the work would be done by the Wednesday after we reached the agreement. It was not. At the end of that week, he asked for an additional $1400 to pay his guys. Please note that at that point, he only showed up for two days to the work site. I gave him the additional $1400 and signed an invoice in good faith without checking on whether the work he said was completed was actually completed and my husband who was overseeing the work was away. Since I couldn't reach him and I wanted the work to continue, I sent the money in good faith. At the end of the next week, the work still had not been completed and he asked for $1800 and promised that it would be done within a few days. I paid and again, he did not show up. Meanwhile, I was trying to schedule other contractors for the floor and the countertops based on ********* word that the work would be complete. My other contractors trusted me each time, did not schedule other customers, and were unable to work since ******* was not yet done - therefore ruining my reputation. This happened 3 times. On the fourth time, I was irate. Rather than calling me, ******* called my husband after many attempts to reach him and my husband gave me the phone. I requested a refund of the last $1800 - not the full amount paid, since I realize that I signed off on work that had not been done because I didn't check.
