I am the HR Director for a small art college in *******, **. Salary.com had an agreement for a 2-year contract with my predecessor, ***, to provide salary/compensation data from November 2, 2020 to November 1, 2022. The order form said that *** needed to tell Salary.com 60 days ahead of renewal that he didn't wish to renew, or it would be renewed for another 2 year period. The cost was $4000/year, plus up to 5% increase year over year, with notice. On September 1, 2022, a Salary.com employee emailed *** to say that she was reaching out about our upcoming renewal, for $4,500 per year. Nowhere in the email did the employee say it was the last day to ask that the contract not renew, and there were no reminders at any point over the entire 2-year period that the contract would auto-renew for another 2 years without 60 days' notice in advance of the renewal. *** consulted with his supervisor, and on September 20, 2022, told Salary.com that he did not want to renew, but the salesperson told him it was too late, and he would be billed for the new 2-year subscription.*** left the College shortly after with no resolution. An interim HR Director tried to work with salary.com, and reached an agreement verbally that we could at least change to another product, which would be more helpful to us than the product we were stuck with, which was profoundly un-useful. I came to the college as the new HR Director in late January 2023, and started trying to look at the other products offered by Salary.com, so that we could at least use the product we were supposedly on the hook for $4,500/year for 2 years for. After weeks of trying to work with Salary.com, they told us that they would not even change our product to one we could actually use. We pointed out to Salary.com that the ********** AG's office and the federal ****** of ******** Protection both said the standard of care was to give warning before auto-renewals. Salary.com sent the bill to collections.
