After combing through my online banking statements I realized I was being charged $16.95 a month from Christian ***** for a membership that I never recall signing up for. I order from them once a year, typically when I order supplies for the new homeschool year. I don't order throughout the year so having this "membership" wouldn't even benefit me financially. I am not sure what programming via their website or shady tactics they are using to get our "authorization" to join this program but it is sneaky enough to where we didn't even know it was happening. That just isn't good business to me. I didnt even get any emails that state recurring charges were occurring like I typically would get other auto replenish programs. After contacting customer service it seemed like I was getting a pretty generic response and not much help in resolving the situation. So I went online and thought maybe I'm not the only one. Turns out there are SO many of you who have had the same thing happen. Today I requested a refund dating back to Sept 23'. Let's hope they are helpful because it's over a hundred dollars in charges. I won't be ordering from this company anymore and I will be advising all of my homeschool co-opt families to be cautious and use another company if possible. They should find a way to be more transparent about what they are signing you up for. If for some reason this is an oversite on our part and we missed the "fine print" assuming there is one, how shady is it to hide it so well that people didn't know they were signed up? This is a very misleading practice!

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback about our Christianbook Rewards program. We genuinely apologize for any confusion regarding the Christianbook Rewards program and that it wasn't clear to you that you had opted to enroll in the 30 day free trial after completing your purchase. We've noted that your membership has been cancelled and will ensure that you're refunded for any charges that were posted to your account for your ********************** Rewards membership.

I ordered something from Christianbook and received my order. The order was incorrect and I was charged too much. That was all sorted out eventually despite the annoyance and time I lost fixing things. THEN apparently at some point in the process Christianbook signed me up for some membership plan that I NEVER agreed to. They've charged me $16.95 twice now. Once today and once a month ago (that I didn't notice until now).I didn't sign up for your program, I want a full refund, and I won't be using Christianbook again. I see other people on Better Business Bureau have had the SAME problem in the same timeline as I have. How much money have you made from people who haven't noticed this false subscription you've signed them up for?? That doesn't seem very *********** to me. Terrible, unethical business practice.

Better Business Bureau:I have reviewed the response submitted by the business and have determined that the response does not satisfy or resolve my issues and/or concerns in reference to complaint # ********. Please add your rejection comments below; if you do not provide any details, your complaint will be closed as Answered.

I accept the refund, obviously, but I find it bizarre that you've told every single one of the people who have all had the same issue, that it's essentially our fault. Every single one of the previous complaints have have the same issue. You've clearly found a new business model that sneaks one-time customers into a monthly subscription model that was (purposely?) ambiguous.

It's generally good practice to make a full apology taking responsibility for your actions. It's hard to accept an apology in which I am told that I, and the numerous other individuals who had the same issue with you, are actually the ones at fault. What a low blow. You can just about be assured that you've lost all of our business with such a gaslighting "apology."

I think it would be ethically responsible of you to reach out to every single individual who has "joined" your membership scheme but hasn't taken advantage of any of the membership offers. Alert them of the situation and give them an opportunity to cancel their memberships and receive a refund if they didn't choose to be a part of it. Did they purposely join or were they opted into it and have yet to realise that they're losing $17 a month? All the previous responses on BBB make it abundantly clear that many of your customers did not willingly sign up for your program.

      Regards,

We appreciate your response about your Christianbook Rewards program. Our intent isnt to place blame but to explain that our Christianbook Rewards program isnt an auto enrollment program and that membership is optional. Additionally, were happy to cancel and refund any accounts that have inadvertently signed up for the program after placing an order.

Well note your feedback and make sure that it is shared with members of our team as we consider how the Christianbook Rewards program is featured on our website.

Ive repeatedly been charged multiple times $16.95 and never signed up for any program. This is super deceptive if what Ive read in the other posts are true. I want my money back and to be taken out of this program whatever it is. And there is no penalty for you all if someone never notices. This is a very unprofessional business tactic.

I bought a book and was unaware like many others that they auto enrolled me in a monthly program where I get billed $14.95 until I notice it and cancel. I originally paid $33.69 on 4/29/2023 And I've been billed every month since. This email went to spam and if my wife wasn't going online to pay a bill at the time of the month it came out she wouldn't have noticed.

I just made a $319.22 order on Christianbook.com for Abeka preschool curriculum for my daughter and son. After checking out, a message from the company popped up saying hurry and type in your email and you will save $10 on the order. I did , and then hit submit. It said I was now in a rewards program for a 30 day trial. I checked my order details and never received $10 off as said, then felt suspicious that this is a scam. I looked up the company and the rewards program to make sure I wasnt charged anything and sure enough in tiny print it says they will start charging my husbands credit card $16.95 a month. I called the number provided to cancel, and a lady answered and it was a weird unprofessional call that sounded not like a company and it was noisy in the background and she said she could not cancel my rewards program because she wasnt seeing my email I typed in and she couldnt pull up my order number to pull up my information to cancel. What company cant pull up your order with the order number and cancel a subscription? She then preceded to ask me for my name, address, phone number and said in two days I should receive an email from someone to discuss how to cancel. Nothing about the order I just had made where I had to already put in all that information. I am really scared I have been scammed, and truthfully we cant afford $16.95 a month being pulled out of our account for something I did not know I was signing up for. In the photo I submitted, the you qualify for $10 cash back is the same subscription scam when pushed.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback about our Christianbook Rewards program. We're sorry for the frustrating experience that you had. Membership status can take up to 24 hours to be updated which is why the agent you spoke to couldn't find your account when you contacted our Rewards team. The $10 back offer is available via rebate check not as an instant refund; the funds would be sent to you via a rebate check on the 15th of the month.

We've confirmed that your account has been cancelled and that you will not be charged at the end of the 30 day free trial.

My card statement notified me of a recurring charge of ***** for Christianbooks Rewards coming up, I went back to find they had been charging me for 6 months now! We purchased some Bible studies back in August and they somehow signed us up for some stupid thing we never wanted. I cannot believe this is associated with CBD. I called and got it cancelled and was told I would be refunded, but they instead only refunded 1 month. They stole over $100 dollars from me. We never got any emails about the program, and didn't notice the charge because we regularly purchase from CBD. After this we obviously need to rethink where we get our curriculum from. The many complaints here solidify this is shady practices and they need to be stopped.

In November I bought an advent calendar from Christian ***************** for a Christmas gift but have since been charged 3 separate times in the amount of $16.95 each time which I did not authorize. Apparently purchasing anything signs you up for a rewards program or something but I never signed up for this, never authorized this, and never authorized any additional payments.

Thank you for alerting us to the issue with our stock.  Our representative has reached out  and arranged to  send you a replacement Bible.   That particular Bible is on backorder until early May but as soon as it comes in we will have a product specialist check the font size,  then we will add the personalization and get that Bible right out to you. Please accept our apologies for our initial confusion and thanks again for letting us know about the issue.
