I booked a trip with OATS a few months ago.I was advised by the OATS operator that if I cancelled within 90 days before the trip was to depart I would receive a 100% refund.I sent in a letter cancelling that OATS said they never received.I called in today 4/16/25 and was told that the only way to cancel is by calling in.I was advised I am not eligible for a refund even though the trip is 7 months away, 11/26.NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH OATS THEY ARE NOT HONORABLEOverseas Adventure Travel

I reviewed the call where Complainant made their reservation and purchased the travel protection plan. They paid $1,399.00 when they made the reservation, of which $600.00 was the deposit and $799.00 was for the travel protection plan. They were advised that, if they wanted to cancel the travel protection plan, they had 10 days from the point of purchased. Since the reservation was made on December 16, 2024 and canceled on April 16, 2025, that 10 day chance to cancel the travel protection and be refunded had passed. Complainant will be refunded for their $600.00 deposit within 30 days.J. F.

The reply from OATS is 100% false and fraudulent. Their operator advised me that a 100% refund would be made if I cancelled the trip within 90 days of departure.I cancelled the trip 250 days prior to departure. If the call was recorded, let OATS provide a transcript of the conversation. The transcript of the call will clearly demonstrate the falsity of their response. This matter will be resolved, but not in the way OATS proposes.I have dealt with many bad actors over the course of my career.OATS is but one small bump in the road.Review fromLaurie L

I needed to cancel my trip 35 days before leaving due to my sister's fatal neurological disease. My case went to ******************* which I booked with OAT. They told me this would take 30 days. After this was approved, it went back to Overseas adventure travel who are now holding my money for another 30 days. I will never book with this agency again. Holding my money for up to 60 days is reprehensible.Overseas Adventure Travel

Complainant's refund information was just received by us on April 4, and we don't have control over the length of time TripMate takes to process a claim, as they are not part of our company. Complainant's refund is in process and should be leaving our office by overnight mail on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.Review fromAndrea R

I cancelled a fully paid trip I had booked with this company because my husband had been hospitalized and was too weak to do the trip. They held my refund money for 45 days and charged me a $5,821 Cancellation Fee because we did not cancel within 90 days of the start date f the trip. I was informed I had to make a claim with Trip Mate (the trip insurance company) to get the cancellation fee reimbursed. I did not receive a refund until late February.I notified Overseas Travel Adventure on 1/9/025 that I was cancelling the trip due to my husband's health. That as 81 days before the start of the trip. Since I did not notify them 90 days before the trip, they charged a $5,821.60 cancellation fee. The filing process with Trip Mate to get this refund was onerous and it took several days to get a doctor's assessment and signature indicating my husband could not travel. I received an email from Trip Mate saying I had been approved for the refund of $5,821.60 on 2/20/25 but that the refund would go through Overseas Travel Adventure. I called them to find out when I would get my money. They said they are holding it for 30 days. I feel this holding of refund money is not fair business practice and has not been my experience with other companies.Overseas Adventure Travel

Complainant's refund check was cut on March 3 and should have gone out this week. If Complainant hasn't received it yet, they should receive it soon.Review fromSHEILA Z

I have traveled 17 times with this group and never had a problem. Recently i had to cancel a trip do to medical problem. Now their insurance company tripmate is telling me i can only get a voucher and not my money back. When i cancelled OAT told me i would get my money back. Now they say it's up to tripmate. They sold me the insurance and now they are washing their hands.Overseas Adventure Travel

We don't control or own TripMate, the travel protection company that we made available to our travelers, and they are the final arbiters of how a claim is settled. In order to be refunded, Complainant needs to work with ******** to get them whatever paperwork they need to show a medical reason for canceling. If they are unable to do so for whatever reason, then Complainant is still eligible for a voucher for future travel in the amount of whatever the cancellation fees would be. We recommend Complainant work with ******** to appeal their decision and provide whatever documentation they need to show the medical need to cancel.Review fromVictor C

Ultimate Africa- ********, ***************** Safari - great trip until day of departure-thus would be 5 stars if we did not have a problem at the end of the trip. Two Stars now as the Fast Jet from ************** to our ******************** was delayed for 5 hours. due to "something" that was never quite explained. We arrived at ************ only 45 minutes before our business class flight back to ***. But we had to wait, get our luggage and RUN the the gate. Too bad, we had missed our boarding time and since we did not call to advise British Air of our delay. So we had to rebook our business class flight at twice the costs of our round trip plus our flight was not to leave until two days later. So we were out a total of over $14,000 as we lost the cost of our first return, had to rebook flight and pay for hotel and food!! Since the delay was not covered under Travel Insurance we went to OATS for reimbursement as it was their contracted carrier that caused the delay. But we were told, it plainly states in their disclosures that pretty much anything that happens they are not to be held responsible so we are out a lot of money. Oh- well they gave us a $250 credit for the next booking but will not use them again. We tried for months working with them only to be told, no we are not going to reimburse any money back.Overseas Adventure Travel

We're sorry that Complainant's flights were affected by the airline's delays, but this is something outside of our control and not something we would offer any compensation for.Review fromAllison B. C

Complainant was told repeatedly that she needed to make the final payment for her trip, or it would be canceled. At this point, Complainant needs to work with the travel protection plan she purchased to recover cancellation fees incurred. Complainant has been advised of this as well.Review fromToby N

While I like OAT their billing process is not compatible with their customer service. They take 45 days to refund a trip deposit which was hefty. Meantime my credit card payment will be due before I receive my refund. Not a happy customer.Overseas Adventure Travel

Complainant's refund was processed on December 18, 2024 to the same method of payment that was used to pay for the trip. We are happy to be bringing this to a successful completion.Review fromK. J.

****** giving a deposit if you cancel. I gave a $500 deposit by credit card and it posted immediately to my cc statement. I canceled the next day and now they say it will take 45 days to get my refund. This means I have to pay my cc company $500 for a trip I am not taking since it will be in the 30 day cycle. *** has no problem taking your money but getting it back is ridiculous. I am now getting itineraries on the trip I cancelled withing 24 hrs. I have called twice and am told that is the way it is in the system. I was charged the $500 on Oct 23rd 2024 and now it is Nov 11th 2024 with no refund although I have had to pay my cc company. Will never book with them again.Overseas Adventure Travel

Complainant was advised that refunds are taking 45 days to complete. At this time, we understand Complainant has initiated a credit card dispute.
Once a credit card dispute is initiated,O.A.T. cannot issue any refund while the dispute is pending. Once O.A.T. has responded to the dispute, we cannot take any further action until we receive notice that it has been closed. The dispute must be reviewed by the credit card company, which can take up to 45 days.
Complainant may choose to cancel the dispute with the credit card company. Once we receive notification directly from our credit card processor that the dispute has been canceled, we can look into the issue and handle any refund that might be necessary.
If Complainant chooses not to cancel the dispute, we must await the credit card companys review and communication (which can take up to 45 days). Once we receive that communication, we can take further actions.K. J.

My wonderful cc company issued my refund when I filed the dispute. Now I do not have to go thru another billing cycle waiting for OAT to refund my money. 45 days to issue a refund is ridiculous when they took it immediately from my CC account. As I stated before, will never do business with OAT again and do not recommend.Review fromDee M

Be aware of increased costs after you have booked a trip. I was one of the unfortunate travelers who paid in full for a cruise with Vantage Deluxe Travel and lost $15,000 because the company went bankrupt. I learned a lot about that experience. I am still upset that there is no way to get back the money I lost. Its made me distrustful of tour companies and their policies for selling trips; so, I am taking to task Overseas Adventure Travel.I am a 6-time traveler with OAT. All the trips were satisfactory with no issues until this year. In 02/08/2024 I paid in full for the 03/18/2024 04/04/2024 Ultimate Galapagos ********************** Amazon Wilds trip. On 10/15/2024 I received an email stating that the trip was cancelled due to low enrollment. It also stated: If you move to a departure in the same month, you will not pay any increases to the tour price of this new date. That statement seems very clearno additional cost. I changed the trip to the same month, 03/07/2025 03/25/2025 and was immediately charged an additional $205.00 for an increase in the hotel cost and customized airfare. In addition, I had to pay an additional $50.00 for trip insurance. Im not sure why the insurance cost increased. I realize this is not a big amount; however, I object to the fact that OAT did not honor their statement that I would not pay any increases. I asked for this amount to be removed and was told that they would try to remove the additional cost.Overseas Adventure Travel

Complainant was contacted after her tour, and an agent had a lengthy discussion with them, including offering compensation towards another tour. We're sorry Complainant remains unhappy about their experience, and they are welcome to speak with us again if they feel there are further concerns to be addressed.
