(FHC) was established by the Louisville-Jefferson County Board of Health in 1976 to serve as a primary care "safety net" to provide a medical home to the community's most needy citizens. The organization is governed by a 15-member consumer-driven voluntary Board of Governors that operates independently from the Board of Health. Since its inception, FHC has provided health services on a sliding fee payment schedule. In 1988 FHC was incorporated as a Kentucky Nonprofit Corporation with 501(c)(3) tax exempt status. The organization operates six health centers in the Louisville Metro service area including the community's only healthcare clinic for the area's homeless population. FHC is the largest federally-qualified community health center organization the Kentucky.
