I rented a property from from mid 2017 to 2018. At the time of moving out BSU Rentals claimed that I had not made all my rent payments. I made a photo copy of the receipts and provided them to BSU Rentals. This took place in August of 2018. I have had zero communication with the company for nearly 4 years and 4 months since this interaction. Yesterday I received a threating email from ************************************ stating that I owed $348.98 for unpaid rent and they were going to send me to collection and have my wages garnished. This email had no information about who she worked for or what company she was trying to collect for. I was afraid there might be an issue with my current rental so I responded even though it appeared it might be a scam phishing for money. I left a voicemail and shortly after received a call back. When she called back she only gave me her first name and asked me what my concerns were directly addressing my voicemail. After disclosing infromation about my current apartment including the name of my current property management company she proceeded to tell me it was in reference to ************************ where I have not lived in over 5 years and had not had any conversation about in well over 4. I then had to ask her if she worked for my current property management company when she finally disclosed she wroked for Middle Town Property Group. When I explained to her that I had already been through this process with BSU Rentals and had cleared this up with them she again became rude and threating. She told me again that she was going to send the debt to a collection agency and garnish my wages. I even explained to her that I never received my security deposit back which is the same dollar amount as 1 months rent. Her deceptive practices to get me on the phone do not follow federal debt collection laws to my understanding and if she is doing it to me she is doing it to others.

The trailer weve been renting has had nothing but problems and the main problem being water and wind coming through the walls causing black mold. We have reported this issue many times with the maintenance department and still no fix or solutions. Company will not answer there phones half the time and the property manger will not return phone calls or txt messages. We have noticed our 7 year old being sick very often and as of tonight 11/27/23 I found black mold all around his bedroom window and down the inside of the wall by his bed. I dont know who else to turn to at this point because every person who works at this company has turned out to be 100% useless.

We moved into this building (*********************) in October of 2021. The boiler(s) providing heat to the building were not functioning. They did not function in the winter of 2021. They did not function in the winter of 2022. Here we are with the winter of 2023 right around the corner and the boiler(s) still aren't functioning. The temperature outside at 1:00 pm today was 38 degrees. This afternoon, in the bedroom where there is currently no space heater running, it was **** degrees. The temperature in the interior first floor hallway was **** degrees. We are about to enter our third winter living in a building that does not have a functional boiler system providing heat to our apartment. Their only solution is offer space heaters. Do you know how it feels to live in a building with 50+ units knowing residents have to rely on space heaters to keep their home minimally habitable for 4-5 months out of the year? That is profoundly dangerous. We are forced to live every day knowing a space heater could start a fire at any moment that ***** down this building. The catch-22: without those space heaters running, the pipes in the building will freeze and the building will flood. Again. Living here is an endless exercise in psychological torture. In addition to the base rent, residents who live at ********************** also pay several additional utility fees, which are specified in the lease. Heat is allegedly one of those utilities, but absolutely no heat is provided through the inoperable boiler(s) at *********************. Do you know how much it costs to heat a 2-bedroom apartment using nothing but space heaters in below freezing temperatures? A small fortune. It got so cold in December of last year, pipes throughout the building's common areas and vacant units (where no space heaters were running) froze and burst. Painfully detailed account: ******************************************************************************************************************************************************

    Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined the response would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

We've been told they're "working on it" for the past two *******.  This will be our third winter living in a building without an operational building-wide heating system.  How long are we supposed to just accept paying the utility fees specified in our lease that allegedly include heat when the building doesn't even have a functional heating system and we are forced to spend an additional $75-$100 a month for electricity to run space heaters just to keep the unit habitable?

I will not accept a response from this business until the matter is fully resolved and there is a working heating system providing consistent, reliable heat to units throughout this building and the common areas for at least 7 consecutive days.

    Regards,
    *******************************

I moved into this apartment in June of 2023 and have been experiencing issues with fleas. I have no pets, but I know the person living there before me did. So I treated the apartment four times for fleas/ bed bugs. I am still having issues and have been told there are raccoons in the walls of the apartment that have been unable to be caught by the company. I am highly allergic to fleas. The pest man said he asked the business to do a roof repair in the spring because of the same issue but it still has not been done. I am miserable in my apartment getting eaten by bugs I am allergic to with no relief or solution to the problem. I have to call this business almost everyday and get into arguments with the staff because nothing is being resolved. They send the pest man out to spray but it does nothing. I am still getting charged full rent also.

First it started with the broken ac and it was 83 degrees and climbing. After multiple calls they asked if I got the ac to which I said I never did nor did I ever after that. After a month or so the ac was fixed and I never got a new filter to put back in the vent. The old one looked like it had never been changed. Then my shower drain had been clogged from when I first moved in. It got so bad I was using a bowl to scoop water out of shower and into sink. After multiple promised call backs and a few weeks later that was fixed. I did put in requests for all of these including my mailbox which is broken and doesnt even need a key to open. When I look at the requests it says completed even though it never was. Today my car got towed due to not having a permit, which was never given to me. Now I am without a car and need to figure out how to get my car,pay 185 in cash, and then go to Middletown give them the bill and collect my parking pass. There was also 0 notice that cars were going to be towed. Lastly it seems pointless to fill out a maintenance request if it doesnt get completed within that week or doesnt get completed and they just mark that it has been.

I am a current resident with MiddleTown and I put in a maintenance request August 31st about my ** not working all the way and it will not cool my apartment down especially upstairs where the bedrooms are. On hot days my apartment will not get below 80 degrees! On the *********** it will get to 75 maybe. The fan in the ** is broken and will not spin. I have tried calling MiddleTown multiple times and I always get an answering machine even after being told Im 3 in line next to speak to an operator! The one time I did reach someone in person was on September 22nd and she told me she would have someone call me back with information and no one ever did! It would just be nice to have my ** fixed or at least know when someone is coming to fix my **! I have 3 fans in my room now sou two sons and I can have a fan in-front of us while we sleep. I feel like this is just uncalled for!!! Im truthfully happy fall is almost here and that this didnt happen during all the summer months! They are just poor quality management. My old landlord wouldve had this fixed in a week or less! Its almost like they dont care! Only if they could hear my son saying every night before bed he is hot! They would not want their loved ones without **.

Please see uploaded documentation. Middletown charged me a $400 redocrating fee. This fee has been shown to be a bogus charge from the ******* AG's investigation. Also, I had to move out of my apartment for 10 days due to the conditions in it. Namely: mice, mold, clogged vents, fake shower walls falling off and generally dirty conditions of the property as a whole. My shower has still not been repaired. There is mold behind the vinyl sheets that were put up over ceramic tile.

Date of Transactions:On August 22nd, 2023, at 10:59 am, I paid a "redecorating fee" amounting to $200.On September 1st, 2023, at 10:00 am, I submitted the first month's rent, totaling $849.99.Commitment Made by the Business:I had a conversation with ********, a leasing agent at Middletown Properties, on August 18th, 2023. During this conversation, he assured me that a unit at ****************************************************************************** would be ready for my move-in on the agreed-upon date of September 1st, 2023. To instill confidence, he offered a video walkthrough of the unit, which I accepted in good faith.Nature of the Dispute:Upon arriving at the property, I was confronted with deplorable conditions. The building's hallways were strewn with litter, and there were pools of water from leaking pipes in the basement where my unit was located. Upon entering my designated unit, I discovered shattered windows, some of which were beyond repair, with makeshift attempts to block the openings. The remnants of the previous tenants' presence were evident - food remnants, dirty dishes, and an overall unsanitary environment greeted me. This level of neglect is inexcusable and showcases a blatant disregard for basic cleanliness and tenant comfort.Efforts Made by the Business to Resolve the Problem:On August 31st, 2023, I received a message from ***********************, Director of Operations at Middletown, informing me of a delay in my move-in due to a fridge delivery hiccup. Despite my immediate attempts to seek resolution and provide visual evidence of the appalling conditions, the response from the business was disappointing. I engaged in a seemingly fruitless exchange with ***********************, who provided nothing but excuses, evasion, and a feeble promise of a belated cleanup. They have refused the refund my money, and have refused to release me from the lease.
