The transaction was on 6/27/25. They came out to fix my refrigerator. The tech was here less than 5 min. He opened the refrigerator and freezer and walked behind the refrigerator for less than 30 seconds. He took apart nothing. We showed the receipt to another repairman, and he said you can't diagnose those problems without taking things apart. He said we had been scammed, pure and simple.Initial Complaint

I called about a side by side fringe not completely freezing. The tech **** came out 3/25/25, replaced a part and said to let him know if it didn't work he would order manufacturer part. I called 3/27/25 and informed the office that it was not working and even the fridge side had stopped working ( fridge worked before the part was changed. **** came back out 4/1/25 with what was supposed to be a manufacturer part. I gave it 48 here and it was not any better. During this time I had to throw out Over ****** dollars worth of food.I was charged ****** for a thermostat!Initial Complaint

On 12/28/2024 A1 Affordable Appliance Repair cant to my home to troubleshoot a broken washer. We were told the motor needed to be replaced and paid $295 as a down payment. The technician said he would not be ordering the parts until Monday. 2 hours later we called to tell the technician that a new machine is cheaper to buy (which he lied to us about) and told him we will not be moving forward with this repair and want to be refunded of our down payment. $99 was the fee we were quoted for the technician to come out if we did not hire them. We have not been refunded and the company blocked my phone number when I tried to call them. The company that sent A1 to us (BRT appliance repair) also keeps changing their story and denies being the same business we contacted earlier. A1 has over 50 negative reviews on Yelp indicating the same predatory and discriminatory business practices, particularly against elders like my wife and I. We expect a refund given that the part was not ordered and the company was not hired.Initial Complaint

My husband threw a load of clothes into our washing machine and it started smoking. He called a company to come look at it and A-1 showed up. So he assumed the number he called works with multiple companies. They told him it was 2 parts that would cost $396. He was also told its much better to work on these older machines because the new ones dont last. He gave them half down to order the parts. 2 weeks later I had to call them to see if the parts had come in. The lady in the office tells me they just came in that weekend. So we scheduled a day for repair. He shows up and works on it for maybe ***** minutes and tells me its fixed. I paid other half. Went to do a load of laundry and it wouldnt spin. Called him back. He then tells me its another part. I said to order it since I was already $400 in. Had to call a week later for them to tell me part wasnt available anymore. They promised to refund us all but service call. 3 weeks later no refund even though she is telling me refund dropped in my account last week. I called my bank. No pending or rejected deposits. I have called many times and she just tells me what I want to hear. We are not getting any money back and had to go buy a new washer.Initial Complaint

I am rejecting this response because I have received zero communication since my last call on 12/28/22. On top of that, both parts that were ordered (the user interface and the main control board) were unnecessarily ordered as the issue was troubleshooted and fixed by another company on 12/30/22. The issue (as I originally stated to the technician, *****, had something to do with the drain pump. The new company replaced the drain pump on 12/30 (same day they came out as it's a fairly standard part) and my washing machine is now working. I am still requesting a full refund of $350.

Our dryer broke down. The appliance man said ithe thermostat needs to be replaced. He said the cost is $325. He then said it could be the control panel too which is another $250. I told him if he could not guarantee it is one or the other I dont want it and I will just buy a new dryer for $600. He said the dryer is displaying an error code E64 which proves it's the thermostat only. So we paid him. The part was replaced 2 days ago. He did not stick around to see if the dryer worked. After drying a load for 15 mins the dryer broke down again with a E64 error code displayed. We called them today talked with **** who said you need a control.panel. We were scammed! They knew exactly what they were doing to us. Who would pay $600 in repairs on their old dryer when they could buy a new one for the same price?! We want our money back or the dryer repaired for no more extra cost. Or they can come get their thermostat. **** said per the tech this was already told to us and to let them know if we want the control panel. No other resolution was given to us. I received an email from the BBB of ******* and responding to your concerns, please read
The cost of the thermostat including labor and parts for the dryer is $325.00I did explain that it may possibly be the control panel if the thermostat did not resolve the issue which was explained to you and your wife on 6/16/2022
The dryer displayed E64, yes you did pay for the thermostat and it was replaced 2 days ago from the time of the email you sent the complaint.After installing the thermostat, you had another appliance in your home that needed repair which was your refrigerator. I did not leave immediately after the installation, with that being said, I should have suggested a load of laundry to be trialed at that time.
I told you at the time, if the E64 code continues on your dryer, you may need a control board which you agreed at that time.
Let me explain to you how complicated these dryers are:
1. When a dryer has a damaged control board, it will give you false codes which can give you codes such as E64.
2. In order to figure out whether this is truly an E64 thermostat issue, the control board must be replaced.
3. You agreed if the E64 continued, you would replace the control board.
When you spoke with ****, she explained that the control board would need to be replaced.4. Yes, I agree that $325.00 for the thermostat and then $250.00 for the control board is pricey for a dryer repair.
**HOWEVER, IF YOU REPLACE THE CONTROL BOARD AND IT IS NOT THE E64 THERMOSTAT PROBLEM. WE WILL REFUND THE WHOLE REPAIR INCLUDING THE THERMOSTAT AND CONTROL BOARD.
We are here to help you resolve this issue and please do not say we are scamming you. I have reached out to you and left you a message on 8/8/2022. Please call us, we would like to resolve this issue. You have 90 days warranty with us.You agreed to all of the above when the technician was at your home (1st visit): Possible malfunction of thermostat (E64) or control board. The control board is additionally more than the thermostat, that is why I recommended we try the E64 thermostat repair.
Again, we would like to help you with the dryer because you did purchase the thermostat. Your washer and dryer is a combo unit (stackable) which means you would have to purchase another unit to be able to stack them.
