Monday January 10,2022 I hired two men and a truck to move some furniture from my house in *********** to my house in ********. I was inside the house and heard a loud boom, like the house had been hit. I looked outside and saw that the moving truck had caught on the power line and broke, what I later found out, the grounding wire. There was one man backing in the driveway as another man directed him in. This collision with the power line caused a power surge in the home frying my furnace and electric garage door opener. The house filled with smoke and I had to have the fire department come out. There was no fire, it was from the power surge. I spoke to *********************, the ** with two guys and a truck and he told me that it was a Commonwealth ****** issue because the wire should be 12 feet high and its only about 10 and a half. I dont dispute that the wire is lower than it should be, but they hit it. There was ample street parking and they could have parked on the lower half of the driveway away from the wire. ***** advised me that they dont train their drivers to look up while directing the other drivers in, which I find to be ridiculous. I am out over $6000 so far and have not replaced the garage door opener. The electrician I had come out assures me that the damage to the furnace was done solely by the power surge and had they not hit that wire, I would still have a working furnace.
