1 starI DO NOT reccomend First Alert. They do not stand by their product at all. I had a model P1210 detector with a 10 year battery that was manufactured May 03, 2019. I placed it in my rental unit and when I had a Certificate of Occupancy Inspection on June 24, 2025 the unit failed to work. I had to buy a new one to replace it as the company said they would send me one but I would not be able to close on my property if I waited, so I went out and bought a new one. When I contacted customer service they said sorry we don't give refunds. I told them I would lose money if I waited and the person told me "There is nothing she could do.If possible I would use any other company but First Alert.First Alert

1 starI don't recommend first alert. Their customer satisfaction is non existent. They definitely don't stand behind their products. I will never purchase a first alert again. It's a shoddy product and you can't get any kind of refund once the store return policy has expired. That's not a good way to run a company. Your customers are what keeps you in business and 0 customer service is not a way to stay in business. The only reason you got 1 star was because I couldn't leave a review without pushing a star. You don't even deserve that.First Alert

Hello,We are sorry to hear of Ms ************ displeasure of our warranty policy. Our warranty policy is stated in our manuals. We replace the product- it is not a money back guarantee. Our troubleshooting can be done over the phone and if we are unable to resolve the issue our customer is having- we place a warranty replacement order. This is an easy and fairly fast process. Using the email address provided in this review, I have sent an email to Ms ********** to obtain more details, in order to provide resolution for her. We do stand behind our products and their warranty.Review fromKurt G

1 starI will confirm that First Alert's warranty is actually worthless. I purchased 9 First Alert Model ZCOMBOs. These are designed to work with a Ring Alarm system. They connect to the Ring Alarm easily. The problem is their failure rate is 40% and First Alert customer is somewhere overseas where they read from a script. The woman I spoke to had a lengthy series of questions (and I mean lengthy, like ten minutes worth) before she put me on hold. When she came back she told me I had to clean the alarms with compressed air! These alarms are 32 days old! Does First Alert expect a homeowner to take down a dozen alarms every month and clean them to keep them functional? First Alert does not provide refunds. They replace defective alarms with more defective alarms. My First Alert system is connected through my Ring Alarm to call the fire department if I don't silence the alarm. These defective alarms are going off at all times of the day and night. If I didn't wake up at 3 AM and silence the alarm, or the fire company came. The first false alarm is free. After that, $500 per occurrence.First Alert

Mr ********** has been contacted by our team. We discussed cause of nuisance alarms could be due to installation location. We did suggest a different product with him. We will be sending him 3 of the new 8th edition ZWAVE alarms and we also suggested he contact Ring to discuss his set up and all the ***** products he has in his shop. We feel we have favorably resolved this with him.Review fromVal m

1 starI called First Alert due to a malfunctioning smoke/CO2 detector. ****, the first *** I spoke with, was a bit tough on the phone. He agreed to send me a ***lacement, and I had to pay shipping cost of $6.50 or so. I did pay the shipping cost via the link he sent me. He and the company never sent me a shipping notification with *** tracking number, so I can keep an eye on this shipment. I waited for a couple of weeks and called back this company -Resideo/First Alert. Spoke with *******, and then asked to speak with the supervisor (*****). Very tough conversation. Both of them told me that the ***lacement was delivered on May 5, 2025 ( a week ago), however I never received this shipment. I asked the supervisor why I wasn't notified of the shipment notification, and he said he needs to do investigation that would take a lot of time, and the do re- training of staff. I asked to send me another fire alarm detector ***lacement, and he told me " do you think we will be sending you ***lacement every time you want"?, and also told me to contact ***. Very bad attitude and bad customer service. What am I supposed to do now, because this company doesn't notify customers of the shipment and shipment tracking number???First Alert

1 starIn the first year of owning this device I had to request 3 replacements. They seem to randomly go off and randomly just break.Definitely don't buy this brand because it's the cheapest.First Alert

5 starsNot noting the product (though they seem like most smoke alarms I've had to deal with - mostly good but go off at the most annoying times due to ******** law), but the customer service. Truly excellent. The phone tree was very simple and streamlined in a way that I not only got to the option quickly but also got to a person quickly without being put on hold (at all!!). The representative was super nice, got the info she needed efficiently and got me the info I needed clearly and concisely. I didn't feel like I was in a guessing game or a game of "gotcha!" like many customer service lines, especially when dealing with using the warranty. The solution of replacing the alarms made sense and fit my expectations. Paying the cost of shipping was perfectly reasonable with reasonable timelines. Really couldn't be more pleased with the service.First Alert

1 starI have been a loyal customer of ******************** for over five years, but my experience has been nothing short of frustrating. We have 12 units in our home, and in that time, I've had to request 19 replacements due to repeated failures. Every time I reached out, I asked if there was a long-term solution to avoid this, but I was only told to replace all the parts that come in the kit. In the past few months alone, five units failed, but I was too exhausted to deal with the hassle of replacing them again. However, when our kitchen alarm stopped working, I had no choice but to contact customer service. This is where the experience went from bad to worse. I was told I needed to provide pictures or access to view the alarms. I didnt feel comfortable granting that access and couldnt locate pictures for all five unitssome of the defective alarms had likely been thrown away. When I explained the situation to their representative, ****, and then to Supervisor ****** they both refused to send replacements without proof. I even expressed my concerns about having a non-functional alarm in the kitchen, especially since there was a recent house fire on our street. Still, they refused to assist. This ongoing issue has left me with no choice but to replace the entire system. First Alert alarms not only malfunction repeatedly but also have a habit of going off in the middle of the night for no reason. Dealing with their customer service is incredibly frustrating, and their lack of accountability for a product designed to protect lives is unacceptable. I cannot recommend First Alert to anyone looking for a reliable safety system.First Alert

We apologize for the issues this consumer states they have had. We do use a system using their phones so we can located model #'s and date of manufacture from the alarms. This is used to assist consumers- but it is not necessary/demanded by us. From what we found from this consumer- they provided us with information on 1 alarm- manufactured in 9/12/2018. Do not have DOM from others and not sure if they have a total of 17 alarms in their home. Our instructions do advise that there should be no more than 12 alarms interconnect on the ********** can have another 6 additional devices on the same line. Those devices can be a strobe only device, a heat detector, a ** only alarm or an axillary device. We sent 12 alarms in June 2022 & another 5 will be shipping. We do stand behind our products and their warranty with replacement- at no charge to the consumer. We will reach out to this consumer and determine a resolution with themReview fromSusan C

1 starI was so excited about not changing batteries for 10 years. My units are the P1210 manufactured in 2022. I purchased 6. One malfunctioned the first year and I tossed it. Another went off during the night (always during the night) a week ago. I removed it. Last night with company staying at our home, another went off. This morning I took them all down. I am not going through this anymore! Do not buy!First Alert

1 starLess than a year and the same problems as the rest. Had one replaced due to dead batteries but I actually had a fire and the alarms didnt go off! So we had chicks and the heat lamp fell into the pine bedding and fills the house with smoke. Nothing! Put butter on my skillet raise the roof. Use my wood fire place, have it burp, nothing. Dates on the oldest alarm is November of 2020. Its 1am and I had to disconnect and carry the alarms outside to blow them out and make sure they are clean. I have smart alarms that I can silence with the phone and it says I cant due to hi smoke conditions. Not true. They are now wiped and blown clean outside in a shed, in a tote and buried so I can sleep. It woke up my youngest while the others just slept, this happens so often. We have a dog that wines with them and our kids are no longer believers that the alarms do anything. Sadly it has convinced us to walk to a fire before going outside. I am not sorry to say but first alert has lost my trust and if I had a chance for a refund rather than a replacement I would take it. I dont need to test them weekly they want to go off more often and sadly false alarms 98% of the time. Yeah the 2% I burned my toast or bacon but it has become a joke of making breakfast without setting off the alarms when in less than a month (two actual fires) they failed to go off. First Alert what happened? I trusted you now my entire family sleeps through fire alarms. Stop deafening my children and I to something that should matter. The advertising of less false alarms is a joke.First Alert

We apologize that *************** has had issues with our alarms. We do take our consumers input seriously and would like to assist him. I will be sending him an email separately, in order to obtain additional info on the incident he described. We also need the model number of the alarm(s) that he has.I have searched our records and do not find any contact information under his name or the email address he provided in this review.
