BEWARE -- SCAMMERS!I paid owner ********************** to do two large jobs, a front gate/fence & a side fence. In my opinion turned out to be a con man and a thief who targets senior citizens. Here are the sad facts:The first job dragged on for almost a year until ***** disappeared. Parts do look nice, but most of the work was sloppy and incompetent. He was not qualified to do a job like this.E.g., the structural welds have numerous pinholes and will likely fail. And he didn't even primer the metal, so the paint started peeling within a WEEK! The electric gate-opener was misinstalled, thus voiding the warranty, and now fails at least once a day. Now we'll have to find $4-5000 to pay somebody to cut out *****'s work and properly install a new opener. We raised all these issues and were ignored.But it gets worse. Before the first job was done, we paid Shima a $5000 deposit for the second one; and he cajoled us into paying the balance on the first job before completion (which I later discovered is illegal in HI) so that he "could make payroll." Since we were already in the middle of an ongoing relationship, we foolishly agreed to both. Auwe!Shortly after the $5000 check cleared, ***** ghosted **, leaving even the first job incomplete. After months of emails, voice mails, texts, and phone calls begging *********conspirator/daughter **** (his "office manager") to at least speak to **, we filed a lawsuit. The judge quickly awarded ** a judgement, but by then, ***** had hidden most of his assets. We found one small bank account & recovered less than 10% of the money he'd stolen.Since then, I've discovered other victims, as recently as this month, who had similar experiences in which ***** disappeared after being paid advance deposits of thousands of dollars. I'm currently asking the Attorney General to consider criminal fraud charges, under a special ****** statute targeting contractors who have a pattern of repeatedly defrauding clients.Caveat emptor.
